    Those Tokais are definitely not junk; I owned a late 70s Hard Puncher that would have put Fenders from the same era to shame. The 70s and 80s Tokais are very desirable, and are well up there with Fenders in my opinion.

    This is what guitar junkies want to see on youtube. No designer dirt and rust on this restoration. Good score, and good restoration. It was like a V8 sleeper under the hood. All quality components. I'll bet they're all original components. This looks 70's or 80's. Solid body with original unmolested single coil pickup routings. Very desirable. I'll bet everybody watching was impressed, and a little nervous you might sand it, which generally ruins them. A bit of wear on some frets, but probably could be re crowned. Good work.

    I would have expected that the frets would need levelling and re-crowning but it is impressive that you managed to get that paint off and reveal the original finish. It looked like some emulsion that was left over from doing up a kitchen or something. I was a bit suprised about the value of the pots being at 250k. The restoration is good removed all the bad paint and come the original color, it's not may favorite but in 70 ; 80 years this is a reason for lot people prefer the paint! I'm know the Fender is a great idea success into the musicians and guitars player around the world but the results of Japanese in the electronic and details for to great quality improvement in all the time Tokays it was superior in the difference between the Fender in the construction or material quality, but it is much particular opinion and in the same wood and process to manufacturer one musical instruments can you see and hear differently sound and quality, for professional musician it was easy to compare however the not professional amateur musician some times can't analysis easier!!! These Tokais are no joke. I knew a guy in college in the late 80s that played this exact guitar cause he got it cheaper used than a Fender, and it sounded amazing, one of the best "Strats" ever made.

  • @whichgodofthousandsmeansno5306
    @whichgodofthousandsmeansno5306 ปีที่แล้ว +10

    That guitar is far from "junk". Between the lawsuit era headstock, The large bridge block, lacquer paint, a proper 50s-60's Fender route and so many other details they were fantastic players, sounded as good as any Fender of the time, and are increasing in value collectorwise. I had a Hondo Japan lawsuit era Strat copy (early70's) that got stolen when I was a kid. That was such a great guitar. All white with maple neck. Even as a beginner I sounded good on that guitar.
    I know Fender was having a cow at the time even with their own series of Japan made Strats because their quality control was exceeding USA versions and asking like half the price or less. Crazy.

    Fantastic job, friend!
    I have played a few “Lawsuit Era” Tokais here in the US, and they’re fantastic. I owned a Tokai Les Paul that felt great, but had a twisted neck😢 I would have kept it if I had known how to fix it then (I do now).
    That Strat looks great! It started out so abused and sad. When you first showed it, my heart hurt very bad. But, when you finished it, my heart felt good, so you basically saved my life😝😝😝😝
    The only things I would have done different would be to have shielded the whole pickup and control cavity. It looked like they did have aluminum foil in there, but it was so crudely done. The brass plate for the controls is good, but I like a silent guitar so I make sure everything is shielded under the hood.
    The nut looked good, but I may have replaced it with a TUSQ XL. I have switched all of my guitars out with them, and it makes a huge difference in tuning stability and sustain.
    Wonderful work, friend!!

    I think it looked sort of unique the way it looked at the beginning. 😯 and the way some of that white paint naturally chipped off. I guess I just love relic’d looks.

      I also liked the color they were going for but it was clearly a horrible attempt at a paint job. Looked like someone took some wall paint and went over the body with a paint roller.

    I'm just wondering if it required a setup and fret leveling. The nut looked like it had seen better days. Vintage Japanese guitars are pretty awesome. Awesome save!

    On the metal parts and poles of the pickups you can use a rubber disc to help remove the rust, perfect video!

      Are you referring to those round 3m discs with fingers? They are color coded green and yellow and a third one I think that associates with a grit type rating system. Those would work as well I think.

    You should do a video on the steps you go thru to make items like this seem abused and abandoned. Like the white paint you used on this guitar and the process of fake rusting and corroding of the metal parts. It would be intersresring.
