I lost 95 pounds this year by intermittent fasting and low carb. I also eat kosher which helps immensely. I was 225 and now around 125 to 130 at 5'2 male. The only downside is the extra skin lol but hoping it will shrink eventually. I did absolutely no exercise as I am disabled.
Dr. Mike, I love aIl of your drawings, I’ve taught anatomy/physiology for 23 years, biochemistry one of my favorite courses. In teaching I used the mind maps that you draw as assignments for my students. I’ve been using IF for a few months, 16/8, and I’m exercising at high intensity at least 3 times per week and I count calories and eat more low carb. I’ve lost 30 pounds in 10 months, was 230 lb at the start. Thanks for the science, that energizes me that I’m on the right track!😁
I’m post/menopausal and decided to prove that women like me can lose weight. Not only that but I was in a bad bicycling accident and was in a wheelchair and using a walker and cane for a year. My weight crept up and I felt terrible. I decided earlier this year that I was going to lose weight no matter what. Based on a lot of info I got from this channel, I decided to avoid almost all processed foods, to do intermittent fasting, to avoid most gluten, dairy, sugar, and alcohol, and to focus on a Mediterranean diet. I’m 7 months in and have lost over 55 lbs. I only have 10 left to lose. If you ever wondered if your channel had an impact, Dr Hansen, well, you’ve had a huge impact on me. ❤
I concur. Started Intermittent Fasting from 5pm to 11am. I cut out Gluten and High Fructose Corn Syrup and have already lost 27 LBS in 31 days. I am a 60-year-old male, and I was 282 LBS and am already down to 255. My goal is to get to 200 lbs. I can't wait to get up in the morning and weigh myself. Just eating normal unprocessed foods and lots of water and iced tea! Easiest lifestyle change I've ever done!
Congratulations! But yes 27lbs in 31 days? That is a lot! Maybe because you’re a male. I’m a 53 yr. Old female been doing IF for 24 days 16:8 and walking for 30minutes on treadmill and planks some other days, so far loss 8-9 lbs! I see the difference, feel great and I will be continuing! I love weighing every morning also! I write down my foods, weight, water and exercises daily.
Started intermittent fasting April 2020, lost 60 pounds within 10 months eating 2 healthy meals a day, exercise 5 days a week or walked . Over 2 years later I've kept it off. I still do the 16/8 intermediate fasting everyday. It works 😎
I’m doing rolling 72’s and I’m down 87lbs in 4 months, holidays and all 😊started with AFD then got used to it for a month and switched I only have been doing 30 mins a day of walking and I do watch my carbs but basically I eat what I want so far so good! Hoping to be at goal in 6 months or sooner. Great info video makes me realize Although it’s been hard, I’m headed in the right direction.
I had great weight loss results being rigid counting every calorie to 1520 but can't do that anymore . Managing to keep my BMI 23.5 for about a year now , am wanting to get below 37.4 waist , so annoying it just won't reduce , probably too many handfuls of raw walnuts per day , the bitter taste of them seems to help etc Am giving intermittent fasting a try now , just a few days in now , hope to stay on it for life to preserve pancreas.
Lost 45lbs in 6 months. Key for me was completely cutting out sugar and severely restricting carbs, plus a 5k walk every day. That’s all it took. Diet changes did away with food cravings and I found I naturally ate less with less frequency such that I am approaching reduced eating windows. Such simple changes have had a profound effect, and in the end were not all that difficult to make. 20lbs to go, which now feels achievable! Enjoy your vids, they in large part inspired me to act.
I fasted for a month, ate whatever I wanted, did not exercise, and lost 8 pounds. But it’s better to make small healthy changes so you make sure you’re getting the proper nutrients.
Until this series of videos, I wasn't aware that my 14 hours between my tea and breakfast was considered intermittent fasting. However, I have followed this lifestyle for decades and it does seem to work.
Yes indeed intermittent Fasting does work 💯. I also did intermittent Fasting i ate one day meal I lost 25kg in two months. I'm 2 diabetic I have to take care of food and my blood level glucose goes down. I cut sugar and every sweat food my favorite drinks is green tea and water at leat 1,5 liter a day.👍
I lost 95 pounds in 9 months with OMAD and I wasn't even THAT big. 5'4 and 205 pounds now at 110 pounds and have kept it off for 3 months. It's not hard to do, you just have to want it.
Alternate day fasting has been the easiest and most effective way for me to become healthier. This along with keto has made my pain from my fused ankle disappear. I feel better than I can ever remember and Ive lost 22 lbs in 2 months.
Intermittent fasting started 4.5 weeks ago I fast, 18 hours. I eat once a day about 1 o’clock in the afternoon I lost 25.8 pounds in 4.5 weeks. Every two days I lose a pound or two. It works’ just do it!
Yes intermittent fasting is a great tool for weight loss and overall health. I lost 62 lbs in almost 2 years. I'm currently doing OMAD with a 20 or 21 hour fasting window but I also have 2 cups of tea with cream and stevia after my meal.
Started 6 days ago and I'm down 7 pounds. 18 hour fast, 6 hour eating window. Mostly high protein and high fat. If I have refined sugar, I end up craving food so much after my blood sugar drops that I can't sustain the fast, so I accidentally became keto out of necessity. Beef, pork, bacon, butter, eggs, carrots, mixed nuts, and plant based protein shakes. That's pretty much it. I ate 3x a day on days 1-3, only 2x per day on 4-5, on day 6 I only ate once. My body is craving less food and I become full much sooner. Salt and squeezed lemon help any cravings. Other than that, I'm walking 3-5 miles on the treadmill at a pace that makes me work and I'm doing body weight exercises. I've got 13 more pounds up lose until I'm back to my ideal weight.
Intermitten Fasting does work. I have lost 60 lbs within 2 years. However, after my 2022 Cruise vacation and family problems came after, My stress leverl went to the roof. Then, I have gained back 30lbs back. I can't complained because my BMI is still normal. My point is that I.F. works.
I.F. works for sure, but the fact you gained 30lb in a year means you have some serious mental issues, like difficulty coping with stress and emotional eating. In your case, in addition to I.F. you should try to learn some techniques to deal with stress like meditation, hypnosis, psychedelics, etc. So that you can lose the weight and keep it down. Wish you the best in your journey
I completely agree - plus I would add 5 to 10 minutes of rebounding (see health jump). Rebounding is a low impact exercise that helps your lymphatic system (which only works with body movement) to get rid of toxins (which are normally stored in fat cells to protect you)! Plus rebounding wakes you up in the morning and is also fun! I lost 80lbs with it! But Remember - all the weight will come back if you go back to your old ways! This is the best way to burn fat (I never exercised- just did 10 minutes of rebounding. The reason it works is because with low carb eating you stop insulin from spiking (when insulin is up you can’t burn fat- so any calories you don’t burn gets stored as fat!). Only when you drastically remove insulin raising foods: such as; sugar. Bread, etc. your body will be able to switch to is backup energy source: Fat! If you don’t stop eating carbs, your body will just keep storing everything you eat as fat!
@@georgelewis8831good for you! And you’re you’re so right about dropping the insulin demanding, high carb foods. Great tip about the rebounder, I’m going to check it out. I’ve lost 110 lbs by my 3-step strategy of intermittent fasting 16:8 + Portion control + Maintaining 10,000 steps a day. But when it’s too cold outside to walk, a rebounder sounds like a fun alternative.
Yup. I.F definitely works. When I was in a stressful phase after going into college, I gained 3kg in 2 MONTHS after enrolling. I was 43kg before college and I am now 46kg. It doesn't look like alot but I look so fat because I am short. (4'11) My waist before college was 23cm and now it's 31 😭 my hips have become really wide. I've started I.F since october this year and I noticed my stretch marks from the rapid weight gain was getting lighter and less red. But this november was my birthday and I gained weight again because of all the food and I haven't been doing I.F for 5 days 😂😂 I gained weight again lol. Since the holidays are near, I won't be fasting until january next year 😂
I lost 82 pounds after a lifetime of on-and-off dieting... It took a short 2 years and I have kept it off for 7 years...I lost 13 more during Covid by walking 5 to 8 miles a day (3 to 5 outings with the dog) My best tools were realizing one, it must be a life change, two, eating less in spite of mom's rant that I must eat what other starving children are not able to have, and allowing myself to "cheat" on Saturdays if I chose to...(cheat equals reward!) Also I did not go into great detail with others that I was dieting as I think it adds guilt if we mess up and perceived judgement which could sabatoge the goal. One last thing, I was traveling 3 to 4 days a week, on average, for work and I made a pact with myself to only eat half of anything I ordered no matter how delicious. Often the wait staff was concerned that there was something wrong with the entree, and when I did not take it to go that really confused them. It would be so advantageous if we knew how the body works as described by this video, earlier in life and put these basic into our eating choices rather than eat as we always have... I still think fried chicken is meant to include mashed potatoes and gravy, a popping hot biscuits and veggies are an option....lol What an amazing machine the body is! Thank you for this and your other videos!
I started with 238 pounds now im at 203 in only 4 months i have a bulging disc and a low lumbar tear and after i lost that weight i feel much better, fasting absolutely works. Is hard at first but it works
I lost 2.5kg doing 20:4 IF in 9 days. Still 5kg to go then I’m planning to alternate between 18:6 and 20:4. I feel so energetic and I sweat less. Moreover I have noticed that I don’t crave sugary food (processed) anymore which I’m happy with 😊
Your mitochondria are fantastic. I’m also happy you found research studies using women. They have been historically underrepresented or just plain unrepresented.
I am starting my weight loss journey. I started going to the gym yesterday and worked out for 45mins then came home and went for a 30min walk. I plan on going to the gym 3 days a week and I’ve started looking into fasting. I lost ten pounds since the beginning of this year. I’m hoping to lose lots of weight by next year.
My sis lost 150lbs over 3 years. She gave up high fructose corn syrup, started intermittent fasting, and became a vegetarian eating plant based foods. And the more she lost the more she exercised and felt better. Here is a tip, if you only buy organic foods (even if processed), you can be sure you are not eating high fructose corn syrup.
Dr. Mike Hansen explains here an amazing story of significant weight loss and the science behind it: 1. intermittent fasting (16:8 - 8 hour eating window) 2, eat unprocessed food 3. exercise (a five mile walk and high-intensity interval training) Any one of the above is good, any two will have a synergistic effect, and doing all three puts one at fat burning level 10. No meds, pills, supplement, fad diets, or calorie counting. Intermittent fasting works via AMPK. Exercise and ketones rev up AMPK. Ketones happen via intermittent fasting and a very low carb diet. The ketone beta hydroxy butyrate tells the liver mitochondria to make sirtuin-1 when then activates AMPK and inhibits MTOR. When you are constantly eating, especially simple carbs, you are not allowing your AMPK to turn on for a long enough time. Same thing if you are not exercising. mTOR determines if a cell will grow, remain stable, or die. mTOR is highly dependent on AMPK. When the AMPK switch is turned on, meaning your mitochondria are burning fuel to make ATP, the mTOR is shut off so there is no growing. This is what happens when you exercise and also when the (glycolysis to ketosis) metabolic switch happens. The autophagy that happens during ketosis prepares the cells for optimal functioning. The sweet spot for ketosis is 16-18 hours. Insulin needs to hit rock bottom for a sustained period of time for the benefits of ketosis. Intermittent fasting promotes mitophagy via SIRT3.
I really needed to listen to this thank you.. intermittent fasting and HIIT combination is best to loose weight...after intermittent fasting for a year my body has adapted to it and I started gaining my weight back...saw some where in TH-cam you don't have to exercise when fasting so had stopped exercise.. but now will start exercising
Wow your good at explaining and teaching. Thank you! I love it. I just started fasting to help heal my guy and hopefully lose 10lbs. My goal is 7 days fasting. Drink water, green tea, and 1 teaspoon local honey if needed. Wish me luck. 😊
@@sammyjammy6647 Fasting helped my gut and helped me lose 15lbs and keep it off. Wow 5 months now. It's a life style for me now. Not a died. I feel so much better and able to digest my foods thats been in my stomach for a few days. Try it out. You feel better.
I have had ME/CFS for 15 years and have tried a lot to improve the situation. My inflammation is high. I started 16:8 a week ago for weightloss. This video has got me thinking that perhaps IF will also help my chronic health condition. In ME the mitochondria behaves very sub-optimumly so maybe this will improve it. Interestingly I have a lot of digestive disturbances too. Wish there was more research on this!
My own experience of me loosing 30kg & 11" waist reduction, in term of effectiveness: - OMAD - 60% LCHF - 30% Body Workout - 10% (more to improve my muscles & joints).
I also do all 3. -12 lbs in 4 weeks so far! Feel great. Don’t feel deprived or hungry. No meds. No supplements. I do 14:10 to 16:8 IF. WW for food tracking and eat mainly 0 pt foods, and exercise by walking or going to gym 3-4 days week.
Love the rat! Good job! Lost 11 pounds on IF. 16:8 over 5 months. Not able to exercise much due to RA damage, but do what I can. 5'7"; 126lbs; still 87. Thanks, Young Dr. Mike.
I fast usually from 7pm to 9am and drink a lot of water, in addition to my coffee and eating mostly veggies and protein, and high fibre. I keep my carbs for the morning and choose carbs with a low glycemic index (as diabetes runs on both sides of my family). To avoid developing diabetes I’m making various lifestyle changes
Great vid. Good summary. I get confused about fructose... does it refer to eating fruit. Again thanks for all the work you put into this vid. I am saving it and I am a subscriber! I liked all the drawings. Simple. Clear. Neat.
I like the drawing at 6:17. I’ve been on every diet and ballooned up to 283 lbs. Through a make-shift understanding of IF I’m down to 269 but keep going back to 272 for some odd reason. I was barely exercising but due to a slip and fall before school ended I had to go to physical therapy. I am glad that I watched your video and I understand most of it so I’ll add weights to my exercise. I have never understood what precisely Is fructose? I hope to get to 175 lbs at some point but my first goal is to get to 250. I know that weight is ridiculous as a woman but I have allowed people to let me think that I look good because I have curves. My A1 C was 6.4 but after fasting at my last visit it was 6.0. Thank you for this video. I watched it 3 times.
I started 23:1 4 days ago. Eating keto meals around 800-1000 calories within that hour. 4 days ago I was 283 lbs and 4 days later I am 6 lb down 👌🏼 I'm 6ft 3 so I hide it well 😂
You’re way of explaining everything is related to the way I loved to learn in school- drawing and writing, excellent way! The information provided is short, complete and simple! Although I know it will work on any human, what are the emotions behind quitting to and moreover how we create exactly does situation which make us quite 😓😮💨
In the past year I am down @60lbs thanks to Intermittent fasting, breaking the fast with Fats and Protein. Waist is down from 40" to 30". Swim 4 days per week, hockey 1 day. Sugar has been gone for years. If you buy unprocessed foods you are limited to the natural sugars.
I started fasting today is day 4 my eating window is 3:30-8:30 so i have about a 5hr eating window but i try to keep it within 4hrs so far I’ve lost 3 lbs im hoping soon i can start working out
As someone who is fit and healthy I only engage in IF if I pigout and overeat and need to regain insulin sensitivity quickly. I still place a much greater emphasis on exercises than if. Because if oxygen is not available at end of electron transport chain cell necrose and initiate inflammation cascade. Sometimes I will fast just before exercise even if I am hungry. I know once I start to exercise my body will turn on "fight or flight" and temporary turn off "rest and digest". Once I finish my insulin sensitivity will increase and I just need to be careful not to overeat.
I was practicing Intermittent Fasting 16/8. I’m 72, female. The thing that really got me hooked was a lovely feeling of well being-lack of stress. Is this a thing. I stopped because I really lost my desire to eat, and I started to have side effects (? I really don’t know if they were related to IF). I’m ready to try it again because I have 20lbs to lose. I’m going to ease into it with 12-14 IF, omit cake that I’ve slid back into, and the rest of my diet is plant based and some poultry. Will this help? Is 12-14 hours of IF enough? Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge
i am on OMAD - one meal a day...i did that for a few months. lost 10lbs...as i wasn't exercising much, now i am on OMAD with ADF Alternative Day Fasting, so complete fast. it is helping to get past the plateau. i have to find a way to do some weights and other exercises. Fasting really has helped me so much. i was 170lbs before lock down, the ballooned to something like 186. Now i am 155lbs.
Good grief how can I pick the best drawing they remind me of the cartoon characters that I drew on my note books as a student in high school( in the sixties )you are deserving of an A for the drawings and an A+ for the information content I fell into intermittent fasting after cutting out sugar and processed food in November of 2020 at that time I didn’t know about fasting just started to push breakfast back in early 2021 so a late meal brunch then a final meal of the day that I called Lupper between three and four I have since changed up to a eight in the morning by eating a full dinner meal and a noon time meal today it was salmon steaks Brussels sprouts butter and Avocado sorry I also had a small banana😂 i rarely extend the eating window to eight hours but because I am a great hunter gather and want to celebrate the hunt😇I ve got my own PHD personal healthy diet and I eat in such a way that my blood tests are pretty good a year and a half ago everything was perfect except for vitamin D last month the D Numbers has gone from the teens and are in the sixties not perfect according to my GP but he said keep up 😊The good work and that the numbers will improve this is the first time my weight hasn’t yo-yo I am off the roller coaster back in the eighties I wore a size 44 today I wear a size 4 for some clothes and a size 6 for some others….. I wish that I had been told about sugar when I was first diagnosed with NAFLD the dietitian said follow the governments food guidelines it took my decision to go sugar free and processed food free to see the astonishment on my GP’s as he said Linda your blood tests are perfect what are you doing? Sorry for the essay teacher I’d do like run on sentences and optionally using some punctuation or not. See you in the next one🍀🌟🍀👍👍👍👍👵🏻🖖🖖🖖🖖🍀🌟🍀BTW that old lady has a round face I don’t 😅
Dr. Mike your voice is soothing and clear.. Pages could be written on how perfect the entire podcast into is... However, please let MORE of your FUN SIDE of your personality show. The OTHER "Dr. Mike" is easier to listen to for people with attention span disorders. Look up "Dry Eye commercials from the past" You understand what I'm saying. Also maybe do a podcast for people who were born "slow" Is there any help for us? I've been this way my entire life... Now I'm "slow" at age 60.
Whoa, I did the same that she did and I also lost 92 pounds. I went from 244 pounds to 152 pounds at my lowest. I want to see if I can get down to 147 or 144. However, I did do calorie counting to lose the weight. I still use calorie counting to lose weight after gaining weight or going through a period of feasting.
@@starrj5337 I ate breakfast around 8 AM, lunch around 12 to 2 PM and dinner around 8 PM. I drank about 64 ounces of water per day, coffee and tea without plain, peanuts, almonds, peanut butter, parsley, black beans, and nutritional yeast.
The reason it worked for her was because she was in a calorie deficit. I use intermittent fasting too, i eat intuitively and i guesstimate calories. You can eat “healthy” and still gain weight again it’s all about calories you don’t necessarily need to count but you do need to be in a deficit I lost 100 pounds eating out (fast food) and i even checked my blood markers Everything has improved drastically Follow whatever diet and or eating window that allows you to be in a deficit
Hey Doc, I liked the drawing in What Causes Weight Loss. I finally understand, after years and years of yo yo dieting, why it never worked long term. Thanks for your drawings and explanations.
Thanks Dr. Hansen for this video. I don't intention to intermittent fasting or as technically as your listed in the video! I was 165 lbs before and I changed to vegetarian for a month. I dropped to 138 lbs for my normal weight range of my BMI. Then I keep eating as normal but avoid fats with small portion each meals instead. 😂
If they don’t control for carbs, calories and fiber, intermittent fasting won’t work. Also, 10 minutes of rebounding (health bounce) cleans out your lymphatic system (nobody talks about this!)
I rarely eat processed food (i make nearly everything from scratch). I also exercise a minimum of one hr EVERY DAY (mix it up with crossfit, walking, biking). But since 2020, ive gained 25 lbs bc i hit menopause and my calorie requirements tanked. I went from being able to maintain on 2000 calories a day to maintaining on 1500 a day (& that's WITH all the exercise). I'm starving at that amount, though, which is why I keep gaining. I'm so discouraged
You kind of sound like me, when I began gaining weight while working out every single day at age 39. I've had a veganish diet for nearly 24 years; but I supposedly began premature Menopause at age 32 (after chemo for MS at age 27, in which the Lord healed me), and this month (Dec of '24) I became a decade older, but still struggling to lose the 30lbs that I've gained. I believe we should truly do the IF with cutting out sugar, carbs, and salt! Of course you won't need to limit your calories as much, but focus on limiting the things mentioned above -which is difficult for me w/ carbs in vegetables/quinoa as a vegan for health purposes... I wish you the best in everything!
This Doctor Mike Hansen youtube feature of Intermittent Fasting For Weight Loss 92 Pounds has some enlightening, easy to apply and motivational information. The reference to Doctor Mike Hansen referencing the success story featured where she did five miles was eye opening to me in a more informed way. I say this with humble and gratitude type of intent because until this video I thought it was necessary to do at least around 10 miles walking andor running even when combining intermittent fasting and diet rather than only having to do around 5 miles. Additonally the success story that Doctor Mike Hansen featured seems like someone who expressed focus and determination in an inspirational way.
Check out one of the 7 minute workout apps. You can start there. Do it all in your own pace, and increase over time. And daily brisk walks in fresh air and nature, no matter what weather.
@Dr.Hansen I have been doing intermittent fasting , exercising and eating more vegetables and low on carbohydrates bread , rice etc….. but haven’t lost much weight Mayer of fact it’s like the opposite happens I gain weight and feel inflamed, I believe my problem is I’m a nurse and I work the night shift , I have been doing this for 11 years and now I find myself getting side effects from the shift work , depression from sleep deprivation, feeling slow no energy . How should my eating window be when I am working nights ? When should be my start and stop time ? Can you please help me ? Or anyone that have a idea of what I am talking about , thank you in advance.
Please get your hormones checked. If you’re female check your estrogen and progesterone, also cortisol and a panel of thyroid hormones. I also work nights and it screwed up my sleep and a bunch of other side effects including difficulty losing weight and night time cravings and which are going away thanks to a natropath and saliva hormone testing. Good luck xo
Autophagy was my favourite The thought of out with they old and in with the new If that’s not worth fasting for then what is My back feet and depression are all better when I do a longer fast Thanks for sharing 😊
Great video--as are all of yours. I was quite disappointed, however, that you didn't show more before and after photos of the woman you mentioned at the beginning of the video. Her story would have been very inspiring.
IF works alone but if you combine keto, carnivore, or ketovore (TH-cam has videos on all), you potentially achieve better/quicker results. I lost 50 lbs in 8 months eating just 3 sensible meals a day, staying as close to keto as possible to stay sane 😂…greatly reducing my bad carbs (only eating processed foods, white bread, and sugar occasionally). This was before IF became popular and not knowing, I was basically doing a 16/8 or 12/12 window . I did Leslie Sansome 45 minute walk at home videos during week days.

If I don't eat breakfast, I can't work in the morning. If I don't eat lunch, I can't work in the afternoon. If I don't eat dinner, I can't sleep.
My first goal is to lose 5kg and then another one. I think I feel intimidated with the thought of losing 13kg, but if you think in smaller steps it will feel better. I have started doing between 18-20 hours and do some 36h. Hope it works and want to see the result in summer.
Your picture of the rat should be used in medical journals, medical textbooks, … I’m sending it off to JAMA now and am confident it will be issued universal recognition. 😄I died, Lol and love it.
I'm not exercising this is too painful and your theory Works only when somebody exercises and sweats that's how people lose weight not just by eating healthy
What I'm particularly interested in, if I'm exercising very early in the morning, should I eat something beforehand, after a 16 hour fasting window? Or is it better to eat something before training in the morning.
Hi sir thank you for very informative video for weight loss . please make more video on one 72hrs fast per week or two 48hrs fast per week, also can we do exercise in this fast
Do you think it makes a deference working out in the early hours in the morning or In The evenings? I tend to feel very tired in the mornings and more energized at night. However, in my 20s and 30s I was a morning person and worked out earlier in the day without having to do IF or any type of restricting diet. When I hit 40 it’s when things went to hell, I gained weight even by just eating lettuce 🥬 so I can try IF again but I tend to quit during the weekends 😅 and begin eating small amounts but more often 😢 I’m 45 and have had a very difficult time losing weight 😢
is it possible to change the time of intermittent fasting as long as I stick to the 8 hour window? as in today is 10am to 6pm and maybe tomorrow i go with 11am to 7pm..thank you in advance for your reply...
I love how you break this down in a scientific way but you should summarize it at the end breaking it down Barney style... I get distracted when you switch between scientific info and easy explanation so by the end, I'm like "So what did that mean?"
I wish to also add that this lady is young. Young people have an easier time losing weight than do older people. I suggest here that old folks may not have the luxury of "cheat days" that this lady indulged in.
That’s not necessarily the case. There are people 50+ that can eat whatever they want high carb and high calorie and still remain thin or at least a normal BMI. What needs to happen is to have a caloric deficit and to control hunger through managing insulin levels.
She does the same as me exsept that am not doing exercise I lost 7 killos in this year 2019 I lost 20 killos but sadly I gain back but I need to loose back am trying to go back where I was
The human body is such a supercomputer. To believe its the result of an explosion of nothing that turned dead matter to mutating mortal life is insane.
THIS DOES NOT WORK FOR WEIGHT LOSS. I have been adhering to IF strictly since 1 January. 8 weeks. I have only water between 7 pm and at the very earliest 9 am, usually later. In addition to that, every week I fast from 7 pm on Wednesday evening to about 10 or 11 on. a Friday morning. That’s a minimum of a 36 hour fast every week (usually about 40 hours) on top of the restricted times every other day. General diet: I don’t eat or drink anything with sugar in. No desserts, cakes biscuits sweets, fizzy drinks fruit juice, nothing like that. I do eat a lot of raw fruit. I only very rarely drink alcohol, maybe a glass of wine every few weeks. I don’t eat snack foods or junk food, no burgers or pizza or anything like that. No fried food. Not much bread, whole grain only, and I don’t eat butter or any spreads. I snack on almonds, walnuts, raisins, fruit. I do eat meat but not a great deal. I don’t restrict calories at the moment but I keep an eye on quantity. Activity: I’m usually fairly active in the form of brisk walking (8000 steps a day at 3.5 mph or faster) though that has dropped off the last few weeks for various reasons. RESULT: after 8 weeks of a weekly 36-hour fast and time-restricted eating on every other day and a healthy diet, I have NOT LOST WEIGHT, in fact I’ve gained a kilo. On the plus side, I would definitely say that as a sufferer of episodes of colitis I’ve seen marked improvement in day-to-day bowel function. But no sign of weight loss.
Let me know which drawing is your favorite?
I lost 95 pounds this year by intermittent fasting and low carb. I also eat kosher which helps immensely.
I was 225 and now around 125 to 130 at 5'2 male. The only downside is the extra skin lol but hoping it will shrink eventually. I did absolutely no exercise as I am disabled.
This is an unrelated question, does the third dose of Covishield vaccine help in preventing common cold to some extent ?
What do i do if i get hungry

If you don’t mind me asking, what is your eating window? Is it always the same? Thanks in advance 😊
Congratulations 👏🏼👏🏼
Thank you for this!!
you lost 27 lbs in 31 days? that is crazy fat burning what else are you doing along with IF
@@prabeeshraman6141 Lobotomy
Congratulations! But yes 27lbs in 31 days? That is a lot! Maybe because you’re a male. I’m a 53 yr. Old female been doing IF for 24 days 16:8 and walking for 30minutes on treadmill and planks some other days, so far loss 8-9 lbs! I see the difference, feel great and I will be continuing! I love weighing every morning also! I write down my foods, weight, water and exercises daily.
I also fast from 6pm to noon every day, with low carb and no exercise. 95 pound in less than a year.
Nice!!! Congratulations 🎉
Started intermittent fasting April 2020, lost 60 pounds within 10 months eating 2 healthy meals a day, exercise 5 days a week or walked . Over 2 years later I've kept it off. I still do the 16/8 intermediate fasting everyday. It works 😎
Been doing it since I was 18, I'm 21 now and still in perfect shape and health :)
losing weight is not hard at all..keeping it off for good is the real challenge!
Great info video makes me realize Although it’s been hard, I’m headed in the right direction.
how did you prep for the rolling 72's
I had great weight loss results being rigid
counting every calorie to 1520 but can't do that anymore .
Managing to keep my BMI 23.5 for about a year now , am wanting to get below 37.4 waist , so annoying it just won't reduce , probably too many handfuls of raw walnuts per day , the bitter taste of them seems to help etc
Am giving intermittent fasting a try now , just a few days in now , hope to stay on it for life to preserve pancreas.
Do you exercise during your fasting days?
What are rolling 72’s? Is that fasting 3 days a week, each week?
@@TheBuddaflai 72 hour fast.
Dr. I lost 66 lbs since 10 months. I started in February. I did almost exactly like the young lady in this video. I feel better than ever.
Enjoy your vids, they in large part inspired me to act.
honey that isnt healthy. carbs are a source of energy and good for your body with balanced diet. INTUITIVE EATING > DIET CULTURE
I cut sugar and every sweat food my favorite drinks is green tea and water at leat 1,5 liter a day.👍
Did you eat normally or drop carbs? Also approximately how many calories did you have in your one meal?
I lost 95 pounds in 9 months with OMAD and I wasn't even THAT big. 5'4 and 205 pounds now at 110 pounds and have kept it off for 3 months. It's not hard to do, you just have to want it.
Did you eat a certain amount of calories?
300 per day
@@froggyreynolds4927 you only ate 300 calories per day for 9 months????
@@Katgirl2024 yep
Omg you starved yourself! Even toddlers need more than that a day. Idk how you did that
Alternate day fasting has been the easiest and most effective way for me to become healthier. This along with keto has made my pain from my fused ankle disappear. I feel better than I can ever remember and Ive lost 22 lbs in 2 months.
1.Intermittent fasting
2. Eating unprocessed food
3.Exercise
Intermittent fasting started 4.5 weeks ago I fast, 18 hours. I eat once a day about 1 o’clock in the afternoon I lost 25.8 pounds in 4.5 weeks. Every two days I lose a pound or two. It works’ just do it!
Hi congratulations on your weightless...
What would you eat during your fasting window please 🙏🏼....
How do you feel health wise?
Are you feeling fitter ?
I heard that we realistically only need 1 well rounded meal a day. 3 meals a day lowers our vibration.
@@iheartaries417 Vibration? What're you talking about?
Yes intermittent fasting is a great tool for weight loss and overall health. I lost 62 lbs in almost 2 years. I'm currently doing OMAD with a 20 or 21 hour fasting window but I also have 2 cups of tea with cream and stevia after my meal.
Watching is like being in school again, but much more relevant and practical.
Except if you didn't go to the "irrelelevant" school, you wouldn't knownwhat any ofnthe words he was using even meant. . .
That's the best explanation I've ever heard. I appreciate you explaining this from the cellular level.
Any updates?
This book, Woman's Weight Loss Secrets: The Unspoken Truth, completely changed how I approach weight loss. It’s a must-read!
Recycling Factory drawing))) my favorite
It took a short 2 years and I have kept it off for 7 years...I lost 13 more during Covid by walking 5 to 8 miles a day (3 to 5 outings with the dog)
My best tools were realizing one, it must be a life change, two, eating less in spite of mom's rant that I must eat what other starving children are not able to have, and allowing myself to "cheat" on Saturdays if I chose to...(cheat equals reward!)
Also I did not go into great detail with others that I was dieting as I think it adds guilt if we mess up and perceived judgement which could sabatoge the goal.
I still think fried chicken is meant to include mashed potatoes and gravy, a popping hot biscuits and veggies are an option....lol
What an amazing machine the body is!
Moreover I have noticed that I don’t crave sugary food (processed) anymore which I’m happy with 😊
Nice work!
Update?
Nice.. do you have any restrictions on what you eat?
Sugar is a weird thing...the more you eat it, the more you want it. Stopping is hard, but, soon enough the desire for it goes away.
How is it going
My sis lost 150lbs over 3 years. She gave up high fructose corn syrup, started intermittent fasting, and became a vegetarian eating plant based foods. And the more she lost the more she exercised and felt better. Here is a tip, if you only buy organic foods (even if processed), you can be sure you are not eating high fructose corn syrup.
Dr. Mike Hansen explains here an amazing story of significant weight loss and the science behind it:
1. intermittent fasting (16:8 - 8 hour eating window)
2, eat unprocessed food
3. exercise (a five mile walk and high-intensity interval training)
Any one of the above is good, any two will have a synergistic effect, and doing all three puts one at fat burning level 10.
Also try varying your fast window. Some days do 16:8, 18:6, 20:4 and one 24 hr fast each week.
Okay.. will do it.. thaank you
@@ane4472how’s your progress? Has varying your fasting times helped?

Intermittent fasting works, I didn’t have a lot to lose, and it was easy for the 10 lbs to melt away. 17:7 I still do it in order to maintain.
Check out Huberman Lab. Anti-inflammatory food is a big factor. Cold water exposure helps as well.
My own experience of me loosing 30kg & 11" waist reduction, in term of effectiveness: -
OMAD - 60%
LCHF - 30%

I fast usually from 7pm to 9am and drink a lot of water, in addition to my coffee and eating mostly veggies and protein, and high fibre. I keep my carbs for the morning and choose carbs with a low glycemic index (as diabetes runs on both sides of my family). To avoid developing diabetes I’m making various lifestyle changes
Great vid. Good summary. I get confused about fructose... does it refer to eating fruit. Again thanks for all the work you put into this vid. I am saving it and I am a subscriber! I liked all the drawings. Simple. Clear. Neat.
Another information packed video. Thanks for omitting the background music. It was much easier to process.
Glad it was helpful!
Good luck in your journey ❤

Thanks Doc! First few slides were a bit harder for lay person to fully grasp. Maybe swap the sequence and do the easier stuff before the harder stuff.
Great suggestion!
The reason it worked for her was because she was in a calorie deficit. I use intermittent fasting too, i eat intuitively and i guesstimate calories. You can eat “healthy” and still gain weight again it’s all about calories you don’t necessarily need to count but you do need to be in a deficit
I lost 100 pounds eating out (fast food) and i even checked my blood markers
Everything has improved drastically
Follow whatever diet and or eating window that allows you to be in a deficit
How long did it take you to lose the 100lbs while eating mostly fast food?
What’s not talked about is what time to eat and IF. You must eat early in the day then IF.
Thank you for going into so much detail. I had no idea mitochondria can grow in size from aerobic and resistance training 😅
Happy to help!

Excellent!
If they don’t control for carbs, calories and fiber, intermittent fasting won’t work. Also, 10 minutes of rebounding (health bounce) cleans out your lymphatic system (nobody talks about this!)
Superb presentation. Thanks very much for doing this. Hugely valuable.
In India, traditional people fast on two days in a month, when moon is 3/4th full or 3/4th dark.
I liked all your drawings 😊thanks for explaining something which is complicated, in a fun easy to understand way.
@@nitbatts297 You, too! Thank you for the encouragement! God bless!

Love all your expiation with drawings, I’m very visual !
Please discuss what exercises are to be done? What are the pros and cons of each exercise?
@Ak Yuger thank you very much I’m going to look into it.

Great video! I would be very interested in a comparison between IF and Keto Diet.
They go hand in hand. Simple as that!
Have shakes for breakfast and lunch but low carb ones
@@drome1277 If I do that, I'll get depressed.
Where do you get fructose other than fruit? How can I enjoy fruit and avoid fructose?
What exactly do you mean by fructose?
All the drawings ✍️ 👍well explained thank you Dr Mike 👍
I'm not exercising this is too painful and your theory Works only when somebody exercises and sweats that's how people lose weight not just by eating healthy
What I'm particularly interested in, if I'm exercising very early in the morning, should I eat something beforehand, after a 16 hour fasting window? Or is it better to eat something before training in the morning.
I personally, go jogging for about an hour eat @ 6:00 o'clock then fast for the next 23
Given that fructose is bad, should we avoid fruit? Or some specific fruits?
I wish to also add that this lady is young. Young people have an easier time losing weight than do older people. I suggest here that old folks may not have the luxury of "cheat days" that this lady indulged in.
That’s not necessarily the case. There are people 50+ that can eat whatever they want high carb and high calorie and still remain thin or at least a normal BMI. What needs to happen is to have a caloric deficit and to control hunger through managing insulin levels.
@@sadephillips9645 True, there will always be exceptions to the rule. Just like some can be obese yet not slide into diabetes.
How does your brain hold all of this information? You are extremely smart!
Be careful about eating heavily after prolonged fasting. I have had what I think is refeeding syndrome
I lost 38 kg in 6 months with Intermittent fasting and OMAD.
I have that much KGs to lose but I'm doing IF 16:8. How to do the transition to OmAD ? You work out?
So fruit is bad because of fructose? I love fruit ☹️
With regard to eating unprocessed foods, surely there is fructose in fresh fruit? Should fresh fruit also be restricted?
favorite drawing was definitely the stick figure that looked like it had a yellow mohawk
