I am a total metalhead and love these women. The music that mixes pop, rock, jazz and hip hop combined with meaningful subject matter just hits for me. Add in their unique choreography and the enjoyable personalities and you have AG. Btw First Take is a huge TH-cam performance show that massive bands perform on. This song is their 1st or 2nd most watched on 1st Take and was a huge hit for AG.
Atarashii Gakko No Leaders (New School Leaders) was formed in 2015 by Asobisystem. Mizyu (the one with two ponytails) had already worked at Asobisystem as she was a back up dancer to Kyary Pamyu Pamyu and Rin, Kanon and Suzuka joined her. They do all their own choreography and also create dances for other groups, here they actually cut out some of the more explicit "phallic" bits of the dance and introduced a mime of a flower opening with a surprised look. It seems that their agency gives them quite a bit of artistic freedom and they do side projects in dance, art, video and Rin DJs. The school sailor uniforms were chosen when the members were all still in school (8 years ago) to show that they were representing Japanese youth spirit and the retro style matches the retro tone of some of their music. Otona Blue (Adult Blues, blue is also associated with youth and immaturity in Japan and otonaburu means "acting like an adult") is about "teenage awakening" ie the awareness of desire in others and their own desire to grow up and experience adult emotions. AG wrote the lyrics themselves when they were younger and I think it's an honest expression of their feelings as they approached adulthood, which can make people uncomfortable. But AG never shy away from difficult subjects. Suzuka has the strongest voice and biggest personality and she's the natural lead in concert situations, but in smaller and quieter performances all the members can shine as each one has a good voice. Suzuka and Mizyu tend to take the lead in interviews...Mizyu is the oldest and worked with KPP so I think she has some seniority. They just played their first stadium concert in Japan and are currently on a short N.American tour playing in small venues. Check out some of their live concert in NYC. th-cam.com/video/LHJQ6ZL9Ak8/w-d-xo.html
Otonablue is more like a silly interpretation of what a teen thinks being adult is like in regards to sexuality when awakening, the idea that they think thats normal, thats why the funny moves and most of the lyrics.
Their US Tour was quite successful, many venues sold-out and other close sell-outs. Did you happen to check the number of views the MV has? The channel is The F1rst Take, got some great performances on it. The artist(s) come in and the performance is recorded straight though. No retakes or editing. Checkout Babymetal, "Monchrome" Piano version.
