G’day folks! Secret Screenings are back for 2024. beaumiles.com/screenings/ I’m touring brand new (half baked) films around the east coast of Australia. On the night, I’ll also be telling you a bunch of excellent stories that may or may not have anything to do with what you've just watched. Goodonyas!
Any chance that any of these could be streamed live? I'm happy to pay my "entry" ticket, but you're almost literally on the other side of the planet from me. I'd still love the chance to see one without having to fly around the world for a night out 😂
0:27 What a happy baby!🤩 You look good with short hair and your wife fabulous. 👍 Always keep your hair shorter than your wife's or baby's hair. Please refrain from the Robinson Cruso style. 😱 One video made me so worried that you had spent ten years on a desert island and were now running for your life to find your way back to civilization. But now I see that everything is fine. 😅
"I contribute nothing" said the creative into the endless void. Seemingly unaware of the layers of beauty he was sharing. The joy of family, laughter, human connection, beauty in nature, existentialism, nostalgia, adventure, inspiration and the beauty so often missed in every day life.
Beau you helped me fight alcoholism and get me outside exploring. I can't thank you enough for the gift you've given me by continuing wanting to live my life.
I have been running, trail running and having my own crazy adventures for a decade. No one joins me, my family thinks I am daft. Many years ago I found you and your stories and adventures. Another red bearded outdoorsman who loves the trades on the other side of the world who could inspire me and make me feel a bit of kinship. It’s not meaningless Beau. We do what we can for the world around us. The trees you planted, bottles you saved, waterways you have cleaned and the wood you repurposed, all makes the world better. Especially the stories.
"You heard right.... morning toots"😂 "Did you hear that? She told me where she was from and I told her I loved her. That's... embarrassing!" 😂 I love that you keep these little things in while others wouldve edited them out.
Not contributing nothing, Beau. I joined my county's search & rescue team partially inspired by your work. You show what many could do with seeing and show it through joy.
Running is definitely contributing to the home while you are out there. It’s giving you the time, space, perspective, good endorphins, adventure and freedom to be the best Beau. They are some bloody good reasons because when you get back you are a better bloke. Watching your videos give me a smile. Thanks mate.
Thanks, I think I needed to hear this as well. It often feels like a very selfish endeavour to disappear for hours on a Sunday morning and leave the family to it!
As long as you give your wife that same freedom to have her own time, it's very healthy for a relationship! The only time it's selfish is when only one partner gets that privilege.
It made me chuckle when your youngest tried to poor the water bottle into the cup. The perfect segway from "I have to go be a parent which is twice as hard".
Great work Beau. As a now 46 year old father of two, the comment about contributing nothing while out there resonates with me, but I also know myself well enough now to know I'm a miserable bastard if I'm stuck in the house. Getting out is never a bad idea, and as you say, even a mediocre run, ride or walk elevates the mood and makes me a better man, dad, husband, manager, employee and all the other roles we play...
Your videos are always the perfect balance of entertainment and introspection. Though my life is very different than yours I try to live in a similar way, there is a lot of pain in this world both internal and external but there is also a lot of pleasure to be found if you go looking for it. Life truly is a blessing. Another cracking video.
Holy moly! This spoke to my soul... As a 42 - going on 43 - year old, running is my escape, my joy, my me time, it's everything. It's just for me, I don't have to be a mom, a wife, a worker, a cook, a cleaner, I can just be. The way you talk about running has always been an inspiration to me and I wanted to say thank you for the beautiful, special, quirky videos and for sharing the joy of running with the world!
“I contribute nothing”. I’ll bang on this gong too. You inspire adventure and creativity with your pursuits. We were made to tilt at windmills and do things for the sake of doing them. In a world where we seem to place a high priority on things that are instantly gratifying, it’s refreshing to watch someone from the “make your own damn fun” school of thought. There is nothing as satisfying as taking nothing and turning it into something.
I love looking at maps. I really like old maps, railroad maps, and comparing old maps to new maps. I guess that is nerdy but i never pass up a good look at a map.
Same. My daughter got me some pens, highlighters, and a new local topo map for a birthday, to replace my old one thats fallen apart. There begins transferring over 15 years of track notes, fishing holes, log jams, dotted lines, deer sightings, snake jumpings, campsites and whatever else ive stumbled across, onto the new map. 💪🤣
Look up the Tabula Peutingeriana, it's like a proto map used for roman travelers, it's fun to compare it to modern maps because you can still have a vague idea of what the different places are meant to represent and some still have similar sounding location names
@@CuriousFrog will do. I also like old railroad maps, pre interstate. There is a place in tehachapi California where trains do loop going up or down the mountain pass to either gain speed or slow down. If the train is long enough it actually goes over or under itself in the loop. Pretty cool. The wife, kids, and I went out and watched it years ago.
been following your videos for a good 4 years now and your mindset and the way you look at life has helped me in mine i was struggling loads with school work and just couldnt apply myself but your videos made me realise i need to do more things and get out so i started doing little walks and runs. 4 years later im getting to the end of a graphics course with some great designs and overall im feeling way better in myself thanks so much beau. also early gang 4 mins.
Hey Beau, loved that video on 6 life lessons from ultra running boot camp, including you getting emotional about the world and how lucky you are, and appreciating your 3 girls.. You’re a quirky very unique and honest man - and you make me laugh. I am inspired to get back into running again. You did very well in the Hut to Hut! Looking forward to that video.
From one runner to another, thank you for the insight, infectious enthusiasm, and wonderful mindset. Almost ten years ago I ran my first race, a half marathon. I inadvertently chose one of the hilliest races in the state, but still had a lovely time. I trained a little more seriously the next year, and set a half marathon PR of just under two hours, which was lovely. I had to take four years off of running due to some injuries, and it was a terrible time, but by 2022 I was finally healed back up enough to run again, and life is just magical. I ran my first full marathon then, hiked the entire coast of Oregon in 2023, and this year am working on speed. I've run my fastest 5k and 10k races since 2016, and am on track to challenge my half marathon PR in a few weeks. Your videos have definitely helped me as I clawed my way back to being a runner again. Thank you.
Youre an absolute legend Beau and you contribute a whole lot. I winked to Kelly Slater on a plane to Fiji yesterday but I'd be way more stoked to run past you and say 'Hey, are you Beau?!'.
Well beau! You’ve done it again. Where so many are focused on the how and the how long and the seriousness of it all, it’s so refreshing to see the silliness and the soul behind the running. Keep on keeping on you wonderful human bean!
Congrats now that's very rapid progress. Muscles grow very fast under new loading. Unlike tendons, sinews and cartilage which have no blood vessels so they grow much slower, making them the weakest links. That loud whipping sound of a snapping achilles sinew is horrifying. Glad it wasn't me. Take care and enjoy!
“I contribute nothing” hit hard. This is something that I feel with every long run or training block commitment as a father of three young boys. You hit the nail on the head with the juxtaposition that is presented when we commit to doing something that doesn’t have a direct benefit to those that we care most about. Yes, taking care of ourselves allows us to take care of others but there certainly is diminishing returns when you ramp your mileage up beyond a certain point. Thanks for the entertaining video - I found it to be refreshingly light
You produce beautiful authentic short films in a world that's addicted to the algorithm and genuinely have an impact on people's lives like mine, on the other side of the world who don't get to have a role model like you in their "real" world. So the line of thinking that you contribute nothing is bullshirt ... When I grow up I want to be like beau
Gosh I feel blessed every time I see the notification that a new video has dropped. I think you are the happiest person on the planet honestly. It gives me hope. Love your work Beau and can't wait to see how it all turned out!
"I contribute nothing"... That's bullshit Beau. When you run, you're taking care of yourself both physically and mentally(mentally is probably more important). I would bet that you are 10x more attentive to your kids just because of that. I climb and do the same thing. Sneak away for a weekend or a week, but the recharge that I get just lets me give so much more to my kids and my wife. Taking care of yourself is important. If you don't do that, then how can you take care of anyone else?
YES!!!! Running content is what led me to your channel many years ago (I am also an ultra running content creator)...but then I stayed for the great story telling and other content you do. I like it all. Good on Ya Beau!!
Beau, this was beautiful. It was so nice to see your family involved in your journey. You made me nostalgic for the high country and the adventures that I've had there with my family.
Brilliant video as always Beau! I have just got into trail running the past few months and the feeling of freedom is unreal. My favorite runs are the long ones through the hills.
I love hearing the excitement in your voice when you're out running somewhere beautiful coz thats the things I say to myself! Get goosebumps just getting to run in gorgeous places! Another great video
I feel that to be able to take advantage of the moment and do what makes you feel alive is paying tribute to the negativity in the world by giving it some meaning. I mean, If everything is going well in a moment, a person ought to be able to enjoy and experience it, otherwise what's the point of it all? A world full of war and suffering is also a world full of peace and gratitude. Live your current chapter to it's fullest in honor of those who can't. Well composed video as always mate!
Love watching the videos mate. Me and my son watch them together. Always exciting to see what you randomly eat or drink . Life is precious. I wish you and the family health and happiness .
Yesterday running from home to the garden with a wheelbarrow full of wood, today with a brush cutter and then a fantastic new video from Beau - wonderful days. Thank you for the six life lessons. Greetings from Germany
This video was amazing. Perfectly timed as I start a 16 week marathon block, which I initially dreaded. You've put the privilege into perspective. Love your work Beau!
You said that you contribute nothing yet I stole 3 quotes from this video that I'm gonna preach to my running club tomorrow. You rock, Beau. I'm so happy a buddy sent me a link to your channel. Stellar outlook on life.
This is so well timed. I'm doing a very hilly 112+mile bike ride at the weekend, the training is complete, I'm watching this while taking a break from finishing the pre event bike checks and that little monologue at the end was just what I needed to hear.
Beau, you have helped me get out of my comfort zone and go for all my wild ideas I have. You are the man, and I love all your content. Breath of fresh air for sure. Thank you and keep it up! 👍
Really appreciated the bit about gratitude. The way you film and tell stories is always such a raw and real expression of experiencing the world. Always look forward to a new video, even if it's sorting bolts haha :)
As I turn 41 today and reflect on the years I ran (three marathons) and now mountain bike (7 enduro races so far), I relish the honesty in this video about how amazing and fulfilling endurance sports are. I've been following your videos for about two years now and can deeply appreciate the effort and love it takes to make them. My two young children are about the same age as yours and absorb most of my love and energy. I am amazed that you can find the time to make these films on top of all that.
Just wanted to say thank you! You inspired me with your videos that our bodies can do more than we think, 10 weeks ago I hadn’t run more than 10km but entered a 57km ultra and did it yesterday. I came 48 out of 380 so pretty chuffed! Thank you again!
It's a pleasure being the same age as you Beau. I run, and worked at a university, and love that your content always speaks so directly to my life experience, even continents away.
Oh my goodness do I ever love this! As a long time trail runner I've felt this but not had the words. You perfectly summed up trail running for me. Thanks mate!
What a beautiful video. I'm saving it for a rewatch. I'm an ultra runner married to a non runner. It's all about balance, which can be tough with such an extreme sport and hectic lives. For my husband and I, it's not hour for hour, 50/50, but I do make sure he gets HIS time. And, like many spouses so used to giving giving giving, he often says he's fine and doesn't need it. FYI guys, they're lying, to themselves and you. Make sure your partner gets the same sense of freedom, independence, or peaceful time every week that your running gives you, or the frustration and resentment WILL grow over time. If you can't manage it weekly, then give them a night away at a location of their choosing once a training block/race is over. Sometimes this crazy life, and this crazy hobby of ours, demands creativity. 😂
Thanks for another great video Beau. Inspirational as always. I've recently signed up for my first 50k trail run in October here in the UK. Your content always inspires me. I've been an avid follower since Mile an Hour. Keep up the great work. Cheers! Michael
Love watching Beau run to all our favourite places in the high country! So good. One trip we did the Falls to Hotham crossing with our kids. Husband (absolute legend) ran back to Falls to get the car the next day while we relaxed at the Moritz.
i think you contribute more than you think. your videos have given inspiration. hope. joy. laughter. comfort. i know that i come back over and over again because there is absolute wisdom and happiness here. thank you.
The value of the spectacular show of beauty put on for you in the sunrise while you gave your "debbie downer" talk is witness to the fact that while there is a weight to the bad things happening in the world, there's a pretty significant weight to the good, true, and beautiful too.
Well Beau I’m sitting here this morning waiting for my local trail to dry out just a little bit, sore calves, carrying around 15 more pounds than I’d like, and I thought I might send you a short note. Thank you. Thank you for continuing to supply me with a way to explain myself to my wife and kids. To explain me to myself for that matter. Why do we do silly things like run through nature? To put it simply, because we can, and because we can we should until we can’t.

There's nothing I miss more than being able to trail run. Thanks for taking us along, Beau.
What a love letter to running! I needed this today. Started crying 20 seconds in.
I ran behind you for the first few kms of H2H and thankfully no toots (or ignorance is bliss) 😂
Just wanted to say thank you! You inspired me with your videos that our bodies can do more than we think, 10 weeks ago I hadn’t run more than 10km but entered a 57km ultra and did it yesterday. I came 48 out of 380 so pretty chuffed! Thank you again!
Been watching old videos just last night waiting for beau new welcome.
"I did not wear pajamas the last time I was here"
I'm not sure what I need to unpack about myself yet but this line hit me like a truck.
Awesome film mate. Totally sums up why I love trail running.
Have ran, hiked and skied the trails you ran many times.
Such a magical place
Keep on musing, running, filming and sharing Beau. Go Aussie!
It's a pleasure being the same age as you Beau. I run, and worked at a university, and love that your content always speaks so directly to my life experience, even continents away.
I love Australia thankyou Beau xx we really appreciate you and your family..you contribute more than you think
I watched the human bean 5 years ago, thought ill be an ultra runner one day, yeaterday, i became an ultra runner. Thanks for being you.
It's the best shape I have seen you in for some time. Good work mate 👍
I'm insulted you say running contributes nothing. You inspire! You live! And you provide for your family with your passion via film and stories. ❤❤❤
Well said Kelly. Thanks for the thoughts. Goodonya. Happy trails
Husband (absolute legend) ran back to Falls to get the car the next day while we relaxed at the Moritz.
i think you contribute more than you think.
your videos have given inspiration. hope. joy. laughter. comfort.
i know that i come back over and over again because there is absolute wisdom and happiness here. thank you.
Always a good day when you upload a video
haha the 'morning toots' is a classic...
You're so inspiring, Beau!
The value of the spectacular show of beauty put on for you in the sunrise while you gave your "debbie downer" talk is witness to the fact that while there is a weight to the bad things happening in the world, there's a pretty significant weight to the good, true, and beautiful too.
Thanks josh. Nice to have you there with me mate.
So beautifully narrated and filmed. Inspiring and endearing 💛
I always forward these vlogs onto my father. We both love watching this legend.
"Morning toots" hahaha love that Beau!! My locomotive is happy greeting everyone around on my runs too.
You're teaching your kids how to be a leader and a positive inspiration to the world. Keep it up you legend.
