    Awesome to get a behind-the-scenes look into my favorite TH-camr's process! I must say, it is the little documentarian touches, like having credits at the end of videos, that make Beau's channel feel like an apple in a sea of junk food (of course, the apple is from the side of the road). Cant wait to see what you make next Beau!

    I think one of the strongest things about beau's and the teams work is that the work and story is centered in place. And the teams relationship to place is specific and centred. How far away this is from home, a town, where a event took place or is taking place. the importance of a river personally or for others. the run along Mc Millians track is a good example. I watch a lot of bloke in shed making stuff and it could be anywhere in the world. most of beaus stuff could be found on a map with reasonable ease given goodle earth. Its reasuring

    That was a huge pile of honesty. Thank you. Hope the video doesn't get a lot of views and attract the wrong crowd. Some people don't like being made aware that there is hard work behind a TH-cam video, planing, budget, admitting you have to make money... Beau I'm not sure you can support your standard for long. I'm burning out every 6 months, at least. Each one harder to recover and I'm 9 years younger than you. I recently did one of your tours video, "71 km with 41 range" in a heavy ev bike, got rained on, pushed by trucks in the ditch. I can not see myself having the energy to do that for another 10 years (I passed, not celebrated, passed 10 years last month) The economics for projects you love, don't make sense. Thanks for the advice with cinema showings, I've been toying with the idea and I did do a cinema showing back in 2016. I'll explore the avenue and report back. Glad to see you both, too bad you didn't find an old bottle of wine on the side of the road to finish in a field :D

      Ta matey. Good graft you have there, but burnout on repeat is no good. Perhaps make them a little leaner and meaner? I'm trying to streamline and it's half a losing battle, but a good battle to have. Best to you and your creativity

    I still think Beau’s best film was Africa by Kayak. It was like a great movie and I wouldn’t care less if it was not perfectly shot with a big team. It was a long time ago when I watched it but I still remember the feeling of solitude and loneliness when you are on your own on a big adventure - but you paddle on. Or those shots at night from the tent to the camera at the end of the day. It almost felt like being there. And when you got the information of Andrew McAuley. Man, that still hurts. If art is conveying emotions of the artist that film really did it for me. Maybe because it was my dream at the time as well to do such adventures. Do more of those Beau! Art!

    What a great interview. It's fascinating to see the serious side of Beau because he's so jovial in his videos. The last part about happiness and meaning was my favorite part. Burnout seems to be a common theme with all successful TH-camrs and it was interesting to hear him touch on that as well. Thanks for this interview, I loved it.

    I'm so glad you broke down the Mile and Hour video. It was the first of Beau's that I came across, and fell in love with. I was super inspired - not to run a marathon day, but to do a day of five or eight, one-mile walks, while squeezing productive stuff in between. I've done many of those five or eight mile days, since then. I sort of plan the day out, in writing...what I will do in between the walks. It feels so good to get all the walking in, get a lot done in between, and really keep distractions to a minimum. And meanwhile, Beau has become one of my husband's and my favorite youtubers, which is how we found you, Jack, and Digital Spaghetti. We watched the paragliding video, and now this. Thanks. Great interview, and we can tell you are a huge Beau Miles fan.

    Honest man, I’ve been trying to do filmmaking style TH-cam, I love it, I love to tell stories I have to recognise I have to learn lots but it is so hard to get into the space of filmmaking on TH-cam. As a solo creator it is very easy to burn out because we need to make money, and I have also realised people think about filmmaking as a slow videos, soft talk and colour gradient,. Sometimes it is easy to grow on TH-cam making other type of content that doesn’t requiere much time and effort at least that the case on TH-cam

    @BeauMiles wanted to take a chance and follow up on this “let it breathe” process at 10:50 - how do you keep track of the clips that you cut but then realize “oh I want that back!” And also, how do you know what story beats are *missing* once you’re completely in the thick of the most-cut version of the edit?
    (More editors feel free to chime in too)

    • @TheWhitePianoKeyProductions
      @TheWhitePianoKeyProductions หลายเดือนก่อน

      You remember.
      Also if you are not sure, I always keep my autosave premiere files, so can go back to any old edit I have done.
      Also breathing probably also means to just extend a clip for 5 seconds to give a pause. Just adding pauses, not always extra footage.
      That's my thoughts at least

    If you don't like voiceover, think of it not as something that you edit into the video during production. Think of it as something that you are telling a viewer in real time as he/she watches it. As if the voiceover didn't happen during production but it's being spoken to them as they listen and watch the video. You have to sometimes compartmentalize your personality. There's the real Beau, for instance, then there's an omniscient Beau who can travel space and time.
    Also, that voiceover version of yourself needs his own voice. Don't feel like you are not being real in that moment. It's just another very real version of yourself. It's basically impossible and not necessary to sound exactly the same in conversation as you do in voiceover. Craft a voiceover style of speaking. Don't think of it as something that isn't as real as you because it is you. Real life you and voiceover you will have two different voices and that's not only ok, but it's also necessary. The viewer needs to experience the change from one personality to another and you mustn't rely only on visual ques. Don't say to yourself "they will know because they can hear me speaking while they see me running, or sleeping ..."
    The voiceover voice must have its own space and power and must be immediately recognizable in audio-only media such as a podcast, without any visual ques. Even if it's never made into a podcast, some people are blind, some people will be listening in the next room, etc. You are you; idea guy is you; writer guy is you; production guy is you; director guy is you; editor guy is you; voiceover guy is you. Use all of their talents and personalities.
