Yeah, I think a lot of ppl don't comprehend the weight of actually putting your lives on the line because it's an anime. The questions Jean is asking completely make sense. He could die the next day, the next week, or the next month just by joining the Survey Corps, he decided to put his life on the line, but it needs to be something worth dying for. He is asking the right questions, they all deserve to know.
i understand what you are saying but telling the truth ,i didnt like jean in season1 he was always jealouse and harsh to eren ,burden eren shoulder with his words i know its not intentiional,,but eren already had so much responsibility! jean is just thinking of himself never thought eren feelings, if you pay attention to eren !
he needs a good inspiration not something that heavy his shoulder,some people think jean tellings facts but thats not good facts its emotionally triggered someone which is not a good a way to telling the person who is willing to dedicate himself for humanitys hope,,its not eren fault they are risking their life begin with
they should respect each other and their courage,sacrifice! rather than always spouting facts in heavy way,its not jean faults i know his character is like that but for me wrong is the fan who think jean is totally right for saying these words to eren!

Second of all, Eren SHOULD feel the burden and responsibility, there is no babying him in a world where ppl are dying left and right. These ppl are putting their lives on the line, and you are asking them to be considerate of Eren's feelings? LOL. How abt Eren be considerate of ppl that are actually dying for this cause. Rather than telling others to be more considerate of Eren'e feelings, I say ppl are already plenty considerate of his feelings. Getting angry at Jean for saying exactly what needs to be said. Jean adding those burden to Eren could just also means, "don't fuck up Eren, why would you throw your hands at Mikasa?? If you could do that to her then that means you could kill us without you knowing as well".
It's better to address the issue now than having regrets later. Remember that their lives are always at risk. They share the same burden, it's just that Eren is once step ahead with them with his titan power and his ability to regenerate.

They are doing 3 series simultaneously plus their music channel. They are human beings not robots and put out quality content which is why you’re here for their reactions. As a first time watcher I love the suspense of wondering what will happen next. I love how much you guys pay attention to detail. It's really refreshing. It's not just like the visual details, but you pay attention to how people communicate. Like the scene with Jean, noticing how his tone was similar to the camp, but hearing his changed attitude. Or the scene with Mikasas eyes changing. No spoilers, but paying attention to small details will go far in the coming episodes. The Difference between Levi & Eren
Eren is someone who cannot hide his emotional and his feelings and shouts them out
Unlike Levi who may carry a lot of feelings and pain and not show them
and this is only one difference out of many
They talked about their appearences, not their spirit.

25:18 -- I don't like how they translated "shinzou wo sasageyo" in this set of subtitles as "offer your lives". In better English translations of this series, it's normally "give your hearts" or "dedicate your hearts". _("Offer your hearts" would also be good.)_
The key point here is the Japanese word _"shinzou",_ which means "heart". ("Life" would be _"jinsei"_ or _"inochi"._ )
Note that the military salute in this army is putting the right hand on the heart, which is usually thought of as being on the left side of the chest. Remember how in the episode 1x03 the instructor scolded Connie for doing it in the opposite way, with his left hand.
16:08 it is the same when asians say all americans look alike, africans look alike, etc. And americans say, japanese, koreans, chinese all look alike, they can't tell the differences at first.
generally, we are used to seeing our own races / nationalities growing up that we can tell the variations and distinguish even for people with similar features because we have seen lots of "samples". but it will be much harder to distinguish for someone foreign.
eren and levi may be of the same hair colour, head shape, but their faces are very different, so we will never think they look alike. big eyes and small eyes is already a very distinct feature.
I mean german and american are pretty close. Large number of german immigrants making up america today.
they're mixing up a lot of the characters, not just levi and eren. levi has a few asian features (even though mikasa is the only asian there); he could probably be viewed as eastern european/western asian like specifically turkey or uzbekistan. eren looks broadly germanic though. probably intentionally designed that way by isayama (considering the heavy german inspirations and eren's last name being jaeger). not to mention eren has bigger eyes and softer features overall, which gives a baby face effect
in general, a lot of animes have extremely similar looking characters that look similar but only differ in hairstyles or eyes which becomes a major cue for silhouetting them. AOT doesnt do that and has a lot more grounded hairstyles and colors. it seems like isayama intentionally designed all of these characters with a large variety of european facial features in mind. so honestly, it should be easy to distinguish them because european faces are constantly displayed in media. they're also confusing some of the voices, like sasha's voice with mikasa's too

@@RocZi it’s not bizarre. They are new anime watchers, at least of the time of this recording. They’re also watching in Japanese which means they can’t differentiate between voices the same way us who have been watching anime for years can. Like someone else said, Attack on Titan uses real human features and hair color, so you can’t recognize a character through one of their outlandish features like in Naruto for example.
Of course many have watched Attack on Titan without these issues, but as ive said for new anime watchers like these guys are it can get confusing a bit.

I am SO glad you guys noticed how Jean is piling it on Eren. It's one thing to keep an eye out for, as this is crucial for character and plot as the series progresses and like 5% or less of watcher ever catch that. As for Eren's expression... it was more coming from a protective kind aspect rather. As in he now has the ability to protect them. Unlike his younger self.... where there really was no hope.

Fun fact: Unlike the anime, when Eren meets his friends and colleagues after having joined the Exploration Corps, they do not have the uniform of said squad, while in the manga they do have it when Eren is in that same scene with all of them 🤔🤔🤔

30:58 -- In case you haven't noticed, here Eren is imagining Marco wearing the Survey Corps cape.
This is an interesting episode to rewatch, now Erwin's speech makes much more sense.
Spoiler for S2:
1. The mention of Eren's basement and how the Survey Corps are going to that basement to get valuable information about the Titans was necessary to lure the enemy who has just killed Sawney and Bean to keep Titan's secrets safe. Now, the enemy must join the Survey Corps to learn about/sabotage their plan.
2.The mention of high fatality rate was necessary to downsize/isolate Erwin's suspects. As was revealed in S2, Erwin, by now (by this episode), has possibly known that whoever the Titan Shifters were, they can be among the 104th cadet recruits. Since the recruits were scared to join the Survey Corps due to his speech, those who still wanted to join them would either had to have strong resolves/motivations, weren't scared to die because they're a Titan themselves, or as in my 1st point, simply wanted to keep an eye on humanity's progress against the Titans.
This episode also highlights another great writing skill by Isayama because it's still enjoyable for the 1st time viewer. It still has a problem (conflict of deciding which military branch to join) and a solution (our main characters showing their resolve to join the survey corps despite various circumstances).
For comparison, a less skilled writer might over-emphasize the importance of Erwin's speech without providing easy-to-follow and satisfying mini-journey in its episode/sub chapter.

About your assumption of Mikasa knows more about turning human into titan, do you forget how surprised she was when she found out Eren coming back to life out of a titan body and even crying? Do you forget how she panicking when Armin wants to stab on Eren's titan vital spot to wake him up? Also when they finished the mission to seal the wall with the boulder, how she is panicking when the elite member of Garrison that protecting Eren is about to slice the flesh of Eren titan to take Eren out of it?

My Japanese is close to non-existent, but I'm fairly certain that when the subtitles say "give your lives", they are actually saying "give your hearts", which is a subtle difference, but an important one since it matches with their salute clenching their fists over their hearts. It's a poor translation on whatever streaming platform you guys are using.
