It's ok... it makes me emotional too. Freezing, Bleeding half dead exhausted climbing Luffy in this episode is one of my favorite Luffy moments and it's EXACTLY what picture when Luffy says "I'll have a crew that ALWAYS has each other's backs" It's very beautiful friendship.
Hiriluk's speech is easily one of the most quoted lines in the One Piece fandom.
Its a great line. Out of context it is still poignant and beautiful.
"People die when they are forgotten" is easily one of my favorite quotes. Losing a loved one hits hard.
The quote and variations of that quote have been around centuries before One Piece though.

Oda said in a SBS (it's when he answer the readers of the manga) that if a person that is already an human eats the ZOAN human human fruit - model human(chopper's fruit) the person would become "more human". As learning is the most powerful trait of a human, people take that it would make you more proficient and emotionally wise
Its also taken to mean they would become "enlightened" which could have many different meanings or effects.

You know why i love you guys. Because you guys joke around a lot, but when shit gets real you are both actually SUPER immersed in the series. Real recognize real, you guys are One Piece fans. Absolutely loved the hell out of this video, thank you both for it.
Also Dr. Hiriluk is one of the most based and beloved characters in the fandom. His theology was basically never give up, If you are willing to fight for it you can make the impossible to be possible. And he was a kind hearted soul who simply wanted to help those who were vulnerable and in need. And he had a true understanding of what legacy and meaning in life was all about.
It's just his personality quirk. It's how he expresses himself when getting compliments. He both hates you AND becomes very flattered when people give him praise for anything.

Just like you guys, I only started anime after the LA, so I never knew about Chopper. Now I'm almost caught up with the anime (currently at 1030-ish eps), and Chopper is now like my own child lol. He definitely is one of my favorites among the strawhats

Feeling like you don't belong anywhere can be one of the hardest and most devastating things someone can go through.When I saw Chopper's story, I also couldn't stop crying I couldn't help but feel identified and that's why I love this character There is nothing harder than loneliness itself, that is why ONE PIECE has become my life now and makes me live with dreams.

There is a saying, that Chopper inherited a doctor's skills (the ability to heal people) from Kureha, and a doctor's heart (the desire to heal people) from Hiruluk.
Yes, that is what he inherited from bothm because Hiruluk is a pirate who for the last 38 years has been operating in a mission or more missions, the one showed to us is to recreate the medicine/cure that cured him back then, it was not the sakura leaves, but a cure that was hidden behind them if you all read while paying attention. Hiruluk is or at least was a pirate and after leaving the nameless island he probably went on another mission, he wasted too much time in that island.

Most One Piece fans fall in love with the story during Nami’s arc (like myself), but interestingly it was actually Chopper’s arc that got my bf into One Piece. Now he’s caught up and Chopper is still his favorite character and he melts any time he does something cute. 🤣

One more trivia: Chopper is the favorite character of the live action director and he is most excited about creating him in next season 😊. Dr kureha is already decided will be played by Jamie Lee Kurtis who is a huge fan of Chopper herself

Chooper just sucks at taking compliments. He doesn’t have a split personality. He tries hard to seem tough which is why he says mean stuff but he lets it slip that he actually appreciated the compliments given to him via his body reactions and face
No one gives a character this kind of depth like oda. And he does that with sooo many character.

I think of all the anime I've seen, Oda does the best job at giving you the backstory you need to care SO MUCH about the fights. The character motivation in this series is consistently incredible, even now almost 30 years in.

I've been reading a book that all but confirms Hiriluk's theory about your emotions affecting your health. It's not to say that being happy and not worrying will make you never need any medical assistance, but being unhappy and worried certainly makes you more prone to illness. Not for nothing the term "worried sick" exists. The book in question is from 1948, titled "How to Stop Worrying and Start Living", by Dale Carnegie.

You will know the theory on the origin of devil fruits on episode 1100 (on anime) 😅 And it is very interesting theory. I love how you both love Chopper and he is also my favourite character after Luffy. One piece has really great backstories and you guys will be amazed as a story progressed and know how one piece world is full of relevance to our world. Racism, corruption, classism, and so many dark realities are shown in such a powerful way and even with dark moments, one piece doesnt deviate from its theme that is adventure, find a joy in every situations, live in the moment and comic relief ( it has a peak comedy than other anime), friendship, do what you desire or dream of. This is masterpiece, our one piece. Love your reactions as always.

Trivia : This whole arc was a reference to al-Razi, a famous doctor and alchemist in the Golden Islamic Age. Oda split the personality and contribution of al-Razi between Hiriluk and Kureha.

@riceandginger Chopper is portraying "Tsundere" which is a term for a character who acts rude, cold, and hostile towards their love interest in order to conceal their warm and caring feelings (wiki) but punned with him being a reindeer. So Tsun-Deer. Also his voice is so dang cute because that's the OG Pikachu voice actor.

Yes, Chopper VA is same as Konohamaru. Also i might know why this moment with Luffy "they are my friends" almost made u tear up - Luffy can be selfish, but ALL the time he puts problems and feelings of others before his own. He gives his full life for his friends - that is his best quality. Id say u can see that in every single arc from the start - Coby, Sanji (althorught his TRUE arc is long way ahead (sry for monor spoiler) ), Nami, giants and now Chopper.
On side note - keep enjoying OP. This as an awesome story. As i like to say - while u watch/read OP u can be happy, sad, intrigued, laughing - but NEVER bored.

Chopper's backstory is so sad. He came back swollen, with a broken leg, and one of his antlers torn clean off, which was mended back on later.

and if you are confused as to why his name is Tony, it is because reindeer in Japanese is Tonakai, which sounds sort of like Tony. Oda is brilliant when it comes to naming because he incorporates more than just the Japanese language.

@@maybeitsyou1317 I think you need to rewatch. The only problem with the war arc is the pacing, and thats still not the bad compared to one piece pacing. The conclusion is perfect, the backstories are perfect, plot is mediocre for that arc compared to pain arc, but you are really underrating the end of shippunden.
Also the ending has nothing to do with the writing. Naruto is still the best written anime in the big 3

Oda's writing is just the greatest. And having to write this story for generally his lifetime shows you how dedicated he is. Many author likes to have few publications but Oda will be the one who have only dedicated 1 long novel for the world. (I know he got one-shots so chill).
Chopper's story is what made me sure that OP is on another level. I like Nami's but Chopper's made me committed for life. I know there is no other like this.

I think most people who watch this episode think the clothes are hanging off something other than the suitcase lol.
Truly one of the meaningful and hard hitting backstories in the series. Also, this will teach you guys to trust the fandom at face value lol. If they are recommending a stretch of episodes, it's a 50 50 chance that it will either be an amazing fight or something absolutely heartbreaking or both.
