I just love hearing you introduce yourself as a “PGA golf coach”. I’ve been following you for ages, probably in your first 1500 followers, and legit, I’m proud of you, my dude. You’ve always had such a crazy talent for not only golf, but also explaining golf. And the PGA is lucky to have you.
Rebuilt my golf swing last year from the basics to the more technical (started golfing just under three years ago). Was a massive help personally, going through methodically and eliminating some bad habits. Especially with the additional knowledge attained since early months. In a 9 hole round several weeks ago had 3 drives in 280s (fairway rollout helped of course). But a testament to proper mechanics and technique as I haven’t practiced driving past 6 months+, focusing heavily on improving my irons striking and more recently grip strength training for swing speed gains.
I was working on this with my daughters yesterday. We had a family outing at the driving range. They have never hit the ball so well. It was awesome to see their faces when their ball went straight and far.. for them.
I started golf this month with friends who have been playing awhile; we play par 3s. Watching your videos took me from a 62 on my first game to a 47 today. I am loving this sport.
One of the best descriptions of gripping a golf club! I learned something for sure. Rick, I also like the audio background, it made me feel encouraged and happy, because it's hard to learn golf techniques! Cheers, thanks for another stellar video.
I just started playing a month or so ago and all of your tips for beginners videos have been a godsend. I’ve improved drastically since then and can now consistently hit the ball and mostly straight so thanks for all of your videos!
Interlocking has become most popular in recent years. In the USPGA major recently it was a 60/40 split between interlock and overlap. Whichever works for you. I don’t have huge basket sized hands so I go for an interlock and wouldn’t go to anything else. If it’s good enough for Jack, Tiger and Rory, it’ll do for me.
I’ve been playing for months and this is what I always have trouble with. I know when my shots aren’t going straight it’s cos of my grip. These videos really help even the likes of me who play off a 15 handicap.
Thanks, man. I really like these videos. I know how to hold the club, but I'm sure I don't do it all the time. I'm gonna go practice now and I'll be checking my grip.
ive only used the overlapping grip since first starting out a few months back but today I tried out the interlock after watching this video and genuinely couldn't believe how much more control I felt like I had over my shots, never hit so many straight shots in a range session in my life & it was consistent which was a first & it was with a 4 iron which I've never been able to hit properly at all 😅, love how just small little tweaks can have such an affect :)
Great video Rick. I’ve just played a round where I kept spraying it wide off the tee. Half way round I remembered this video (having seen it last night) and adjusted my grip as per the instructions. I hit every fairway coming in….
so the squishy pad of the rt thumb you have resting atop the left thumb v. putting that left thumb snuggly in the lifeline of the rt palm? That is slightly differently than I have been doing; however I may try your style as that would seemingly make the rt hand "stronger" by having the left thumb secured by the rt thumb squishy padding so that right hand is not turned over more to the weak side to have the lifeline of the rt palm be the pressure point
I was really hoping you would've explained what you do with your right hand index finger; is it tight to the middle finger and wrapping back around club or do you have a gap between index and middle finger; slightly curling the index or pointing it down toward shaft rather than curling around ??
changed my game, my right hand was all wrong. This and standing a little further away from the ball and not gripping too hard + keeping the head DOWN! :)
I've been playing since I was 12 I'm the same age as Rick. I have tried to do everything correctly. But I still can't take a divot. I can't strengthen my grip without massive duck hooks. But I hit the ball straight and far with a tiny draw and my distance is consistent. I gave up on trying to be conventional. And now my handicap come back down to how it was when I was a teenager and consistently shoot around 82 with some 70s and the occasional 90 thrown in. Do I need bother? My wedges are good only thing is everything has roll out and I can not produce spin at all.
Watching his grip closely. It looks to have changed three times in the video. He starts with left hand thumb left of center on shaft and with crease to his sholder. Then at 2:37 his left thumb is directly on top center of the club and his crease is pointed straight up.
I am a newer golfer and I get ALOT of shock in my hands the day after a driving range session. I assume its alot to do with my grip and wrists. Appreciate the info
Has anyone experienced pain in their non dominant hand (mainly in the pinky area) when gripping and swing the club. I’m new to golf and winding if this is a grip problem or more of a personal?
Saw your new storeroom on tic tok looks awesome. If you ever want to unload some I’d happily take a new set. I’m using the same set for about 5 years but they are about 15 years old. Love the vids Rick👍
@@christopher-miles would it promote any type of flipping or not being able to get down on the ball? I really have an issue with the end of the downswing with stalling.
@@blue24563 I want to respond but the comment is just so dumb there is nothing to say. I mean I guess you are right all clubs are the exact same lofts lie anglers don’t exist. It’s all in our heads. Game improvement irons don’t exist it’s all a big scam. This is the first golf conspiracy theorist I’ve come across. I mean I heard Taylor made Calloway cobra titleist and the rest all got together to pretend clubs are made different. Why did they do this? Obviously to take over the world. You’ve opened my eyes.
These types of videos should always be prefaced with ‘go and see your local pga pro’…. I’m sure my grip isn’t right, but my coach has never mentioned in and when I asked, said it’s fine.
@rickshielsgolf I still think this playlist you made a long while a go is your best tutorial work. th-cam.com/play/PLKnkfgDBi62mkWMNmNipPUUep6vcj8nYm.html
I’m not sure it’s always this way, and I may be wrong. But, it seems when you went to hit the ball at the end the v in your thumb and index was just inside youre shoulder. And that may be just your natural movement, but I feel like it’s misleading to give that other advice and then betray it. The v of your hand was almost aligned with your head. I think it’s a good thing for beginners to start there, but to lie and not do what you sai at the end…that’s going a bit far. I understand you have your shot, but you can’t break while teaching.
Can you teach us how to properly throw a club after a bad shot? I need to make sure i use the correct form.
You made my day 😊
I know you gotta yell some 4-letter word , as you do ! Possibly a combination of cuss words , if it's a particularly horrible shank ? 🤷🏼
😂😂😂😂
Great comment!
It's all about releasing you wrists right before you let go of the club so you can maximize the club spin.
I think it’s all about launch angle and dispersion. You want all the clubs to land fairly close together. Less work picking them up that way😂

He didn't care but I'll give you a pity like ❤
Been playing a couple of years and it's always good to come back to the basics 👍🏻

Watched this yesterday and went back to the course. My golf game is about 300% better Thank you!!!
Just bought a set of clubs to start playing golf and can't wait to get started. Thank you for this video I haven't played golf for over 10 years

This is something I hadn’t thought about in ages, and by going back to basics and re addressing my grip I’ve brought my dispersion right in today.
More like this please❤
Love how you said “best chance”

Love waiting for these 1980s golf tips to come out, it's like golf monthly from 1980s nothing new old school
Nice little reminder vid there. Thanks rick!

Love this simplicity of your advice so to the range tomorrow hopefully in time for my 3 days of golfing down okehampton 👍👍

Another good video. Well done Rick
I tried the interlocking, but due to some injuries it hurts so I run the 10 finger style. Thanks Rick for all of your tips as always!

RICK! As I’m sure you have heard, vice has released clubs, I’m hoping to see a review on your channel soon.
I'd love to see a review of the swinglogic slx microsim only found 1 other review video which made it sound like a good cheap option for a golf sim
Let's freaking go and thanks
For a lefty playing right handed, are there any grip adjustments I’d need?
I am a newer golfer and I get ALOT of shock in my hands the day after a driving range session. I assume its alot to do with my grip and wrists. Appreciate the info
Can you make a video on how to line up your club face.
what it should look like with your driver, fairway Woods, long irons, and pitching wedges
overlap seems to keeps your hands closer together... which is sometime a good thing and sometimes a bad thing.
Has anyone experienced pain in their non dominant hand (mainly in the pinky area) when gripping and swing the club. I’m new to golf and winding if this is a grip problem or more of a personal?
Thank you. This was a very helpful video. Have a blessed day! God Bless!❤️🙏✝️
Interlock for me is most comfortable
Nice video. Was hoping you’d mention how to line up your thumbs correctly though.
When is the video at the Inspiration out Rick?
Saw your new storeroom on tic tok looks awesome. If you ever want to unload some I’d happily take a new set. I’m using the same set for about 5 years but they are about 15 years old. Love the vids Rick👍
What about the right thumb?
Zero interlock for me and I’m an 8 handicap
Baseball grip all the way
Thought there would be a small tribute to Murray
Dang my glove hand thumb goes off to the side a bit. How bad is that?
not very much. if you can square the club head at impact should be fine.
@@christopher-miles would it promote any type of flipping or not being able to get down on the ball? I really have an issue with the end of the downswing with stalling.
How important is using the right clubs for your ability?

I prefer a 10 finger grip
Isn't this supposed to be on the H.I.T channel? Lol
Think it's supposed to be mainly club reviews on hit

Can I be on your channel
Use this for the like button if you point your thump strait down the grip like a boss
LOL! A comment written just to get likes. Lame AF. They don't mean anything, you know that right?
Michael Breed, for kids
Impossible to use ANYTHING but the baseball grip when you have got big hands!!!!!!!!!
you totally forgot about pressure points, interlocking for fades, overlap for hooks etc. try harder next time Rick
Too much information. 😂
13 seconds for 1st view
Bro I had my left hand on the bottom this entire time 😭
For a lefty playing right handed, are there any grip adjustments I’d need?
No. It is literally the reverse of everything.
