    I see people complain about the time spent on why some grips are wrong. The first 2 minutes explained exactly why my forearm feels a big giant bruise. Was extremely helpful to hear I’m doing my grip way wrong and it’s the reason for my pain

    I use the overlap grip. As a JV high school golf coach, I spend a lot of time teaching players how to grip the club correctly. I also try to get them to establish a pre-shot routine, stance for address, raise club to check grip, visualize the shot, take a practice swing, check alignment to target, address ball, exhale slowly, swing at 80%. It is a challenge to get new players to competitive golf to establish this routine but those who do are making progress.

    I used to use an interlock grip. I am 65 and hurt the ring finger on my right hand this year. It was painful to swing with my old grip. I switched to a baseball grip mid year. WOW. I felt like I was hitting the ball much better. No noticeable distance on my woods but my irons went a bit further but, most noticeable to me was the bite the ball had now. I was getting spin I never experienced before. As I looked at my swing I realized that my wrists became more a part of my swing with the baseball grip than I ever experienced with the overlap. I seemed to be hitting the ball more square. But, as the season neared end here in PA, I started pulling my drives. I had always been a down the middle guy, not long. Now I was a left (pull) hitter and still not long. My average drive is down to 178 yards this year and playing from the senior tees made that acceptable.

I was not getting enough wrist cock at the top and I found by switching to the overlap grip, I could get an additional 20 degrees more wrist angle. Therefore, more speed - which I need at 72. Thanks for the tip! I'll give it a try next time I got to the driving range. I've always used an interlocking grip. Always felt most comfortable for me and gives me the most confidence that I have control of the club. I don't particularly wear gloves (ex-baseball player who never used them). I have had strong grip issues where I tend to hook the ball when making contact. I have tried to neutral up on my grip, and although I am hitting it a little better with the neutral grip, I still have a tendency to hook the ball. I rarely ever block or slice the ball. Could trying something different with how I grip the club (outside of using my current interlocking grip) help me? I have never had the grips on my clubs changed/fitted as well. Could that be of help as well? Thank you!

    This is a great instructional video. After watching this many times I've gone to practice and after looking at my glove it's fair to say I've been holding the club in my Palm all this time and the wear marks on the glove proves it.
    Obviously because I've been holding the club wrong all along I'm finding the proper grip into the fingers very strange so it's taking some getting used to. I would love to use the Vardon/overlap grip but again after using the interlocking all this time the overlap seems odd.
    15 years ago before I ever played golf my left hand got caught in a woodworking machine and I lost the top half of my ring finger so that is now the length of my little finger, so I've not got a good grip I would say.
    Do you recommend I continue to try the overlap or something else?

    Bill from St. Augustine. I have been using the interlocking grip for more than 30 years. It feels comfortable. I have tried the overlapping Vardon grip, but it does not seem as solid for me. I have never tried the 10-finger grip. I have problems coming over the top and pulling the ball. A friend suggested changing to the Vardon grip. Do you agree with that change?

    • @USGOLFTVshow
      @USGOLFTVshow  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Our preference is for an overlap grip, however this can be based on the individual. The overlap grip seems to help get the club more in the fingers for many players. In regards to the over the top move, it could be a variety of things. If you are interested, I have a full chapter in my book on this www.badliegolfbook.com/
