Summer is here and that means it's time for some fun skirt projects. This tutorial shares the pattern making and sewing for this paneled maxi skirt with pockets.
I used four metres of fabric in total for this piece.

The actual thing that has happened to me this year so far is me having to change my mind from getting married out of depression to follow my dreams, though I could have learnt a skill along the line but I opted to face my schooling instead... Now that am done with schooling, I realised there's more to me than getting married which is to explore... Now I explore with different sewing styles on kimdavis ...and get married out of my own willingness rather than out of depression... 😊

This year my little sister and I partnered together and started a scrunchies business. We sold out in the first week. We really didn't expect the success as we are just high school students.

My 92 yr old mother in law is terminally ill and while that is terrible the good thing that has happend to my husband and I is being able to be with her during her last days. You see, we are missionaries in East Africa (10yrs and counting) and as you well know, it's expensive to fly back and forth. This yr we came to visit her in Feb and were to leave again in April. Then lock down happened. Flights were canceled. Her health has worsened and, had we left as scheduled, we would have missed her final days. We thank God for this small blessing during these difficult times.

One good thing that has happened to me this year🤔..
For the past five years before this, a particular date has been kinda special to me (and no its not my birthday😃,or anyone else's ).. And this year, that date was even supposed to be extra special but It wasn't going to be cos I had kinda failed at what made that date special...i didn't even realise until the night 🌃 of that date, that it ended up being special,( not for the reason it had been special for the last five years ).. But cos I had gotten my very first sewing machine that day with the help of my parents ❤️..
It was like God telling me; that's not the only thing you're good at, Look! You'd be good at this too😊
I started this sewing journey ✂️about last year in October and yeah yeah it isn't all roses 🌹 and rainbow🌈 but I'm really really glad I took the step.

I have been looking forward to this video....
The worst two things that can happen to a designer;broken down machine and a broken arm...earlier this year they both happened to me😭. I remember crying and asking the doctor how am going to do my final year projects. The doctor said,"🤗all things work together for good"... 6 weeks later my cast was removed and exactly a week later,Kenya reported their first Covid-19 case and schools were closes. I was devastated😭 and I asked God why...but stepping back,I was like " 🤔🤔wait a minute"
If I had not broken my arm,I would have done just basic designs resulting to lower grades because I researched alot when my arm was broken
If Covid-19 had not affected our country,I definitely wouldn't have enough time to finish my 11 projects
All am saying is that setbacks only results to major comebacks. Look at the catapult theory; for the stone to go far,you need to pull the catapult far back. This pandemic has put us on a catapult,it has set us waaaaay back but when we will be launched back,we'll go to greater lengths and heights. All things work together for good.
2020= SETBACKS ONLY RESULTS TO MAJOR COMEBACKS

You are such an inspiration and I love love love the way you make your videos. I just started creating content here, haven’t gotten used to things but thanks for always being here as a source of guidance without even knowing it😊. ❤️❤️❤️
One good thing that has happened to me this year is finally starting my TH-cam channel. The amount of happiness I feel once I’ve successfully uploaded a video is out of this world. ❤️keeps me busy so I don’t focus on all that’s going on this period.

Hi priscillia . One good thing that happened to me this year was that, during the lockdown here in Lagos, I was trusting God for an educational tablet for my 2 year old son. I wasn't working so money wasn't coming in. And I really wanted my son to have the tab so he could learn his abc's and 123's at home since he couldn't go to daycare cos of the lockdown. Miraculously without asking, someone blessed me with some money and I was able to buy it. Now my son is really enjoying his tab. Infact he's loving it!!!!! 😍😍😍 Thank you Jesus.

2020 has made me more grateful. To find joy even in the smallest things. That is the best thing that has happened to me this year. It's June, I and everyone I know is safe and not a COVID19 statistic. So, yeah I'm grateful to be alive and watching your tutorial on creating this gorgeous skirt; that I will be making very soon. 😊🙏

For my contest entry: I think the best thing that’s happened is becoming unemployed (temporarily) and dedicating all my time and focus on my online consignment shop, ReneA’s Closet. I started the business in November 2019, but had an official website launch in January 2020. I haven’t had a sale until April (mainly facemaks sales” where I’ve made maybe $1000 in sales 🤗. I’m redesigning and rebranding the site now and trying to phase out the face masks and make way for the consignment pieces. I started an upcycle brand and a TH-cam channel lol. I’ve acquired sooooooo many pieces in the passed three weeks that I can’t wait to add to the site. I’m also planning to run my own promotion and contest because the Instagram account now has 100 followers 🤗. So yeah I’m hoping I can turn my business into a full-fledge job for myself cause I’m really not looking to go work for nobody else 💁🏽‍♀️

The most exciting thing that has happened to me this period is how I have enhanced my sewing skills, reading great books written by fashion designers. The Books:1) Metric Pattern Cutting for Women's wear 5th edition by Aldrich. 2) The Sewing Book: An Encyclopedic Resource.
3)Patternmaking For Fashion Design by Helen Joseph-Armstrong.
I'll recommend these books to fashion designers out there. Thank you Kim, I hope to emerge as the winner.

To be honest, a lot has happened and still is happening this period that could just make one hide in a shell and wish for a fresh year and a fresh start.
Personally, I'm not a fan of june cos I lost my mum june last year, and then coupled with these devasting news, causing emotional turmoil.
Nevertheless even in all these dis happenings I can recount one good thing that has happened to me so far, right now in all these, firstly I had given hope in my application to a uni in the UK to study Fashion Design BA hons thinking that I would have to start the whole re-enrolling process again, but yet two weeks back, I got an email from them, meaning my application is back in progress, i had high hopes instantly and the feeling that everything's gonna work out, everything's gonna be alright, even the covid-19 didn't really matter anymore to me, and also I just got my international passport, today... Which is something that you pray and hope and pray that it comes through, and it did in this difficult time.
I am so grateful to God because in all that is happening I still have *hope* and a strong believe that everything would be alright. It really will

this year surely has been so tough soo many bad things has happened. but if I think of one good thing that happened in my life I actually can come up with many good things. due to the lockdown I learnt a lot of new stuffs like sewing my own dress finally in which I succeeded and also became an expert in cooking. also i took this time to bond with my family and got to know a lot of new stuffs about my husband. just like they say every cloud has a silver lining this COVID-19 situation also has taught us a lot and made us newer better people.

The skirt is so lovely! not entering for the giveaway but several good things have happened to me this year. The year started on a good note for me, I got married to the love of my life, although I got stuck somewhere thanks to quarantine, a friend I made here lent me her sewing machine and it has been such a blessing because I love sewing and it has kept me sane. I have been subscribed to your channel since forever! I also decided to start my own youtube channel where I share my projects and my pattern drafting journey ( as I just got serious with pattern drafting and I have found some books very helpful) The youtube channel has definitely really helped me in these times as I have something else to focus my energy on, other than all the injustice going on in the world!.
