    Superb directions, clear and right to the point, and OMG such beautiful fabrics and results! I was reconnaissance shopping for a friend who sews, and can't find the long skirts with pockets she wants in stores. I've been gritting my teeth wading through TH-cam sewing tutorials and was actually swearing under my breath at the last one, then found yours. Thank you for showing and describing complete directions without digression or filler content, and for the inspiring choice of fabrics. Even without interest in sewing it was a pleasure to watch and I'm sure my friend will be pleased!!

    I started this skirt today in a nice wool twill to warm against the NYC winter...Question: I noticed you didn't add any seam allowance to the skirt waist. The waistband has 1/2" SA. So, the skirt waist gets bigger when sewn? Am I missing something? Thanks for your help? Also, do you set the pockets in to the waist, or do you put them in a little lower? Thanks!

    Hi Montoya. Your instructions are so clear. I am impressed with how neat your work is. I have 1 question though. When you cut out the back pieces, you put the fold line on the fold and then cut the piece in half. Did you add seam allowance for the center back. If not does this not reduce the waist by an inch or so? I may have missed where you added the allowance for the back center seam. Sorry for the lengthy question.

    • @MontoyaMayo
      @MontoyaMayo  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for the compliments. The radius calculation includes seam allowance to accommodate for the center back so no need to add an extra seam allowance to the back. When Doing the calculations, adding side seam allowance was the only part I had trouble with when trying to calculate a radius. So instead if trying to add the side seam allowance into the radius, I just opted to add it to the pattern.

    • @MontoyaMayo
      @MontoyaMayo  6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Thank you!!! Yes you can use elastic for the waist, multiple her waist by 2 or 1.5 and then use that number for finding the radius and for the length of your waistband calculations. Use non roll elastic

    Awesome! Question: I'm afraid the extra 1 inch to waistband maybe too loose. Can I do 1/2 inch instead? Sometimes a customer want a fitted waistband and I think 1/4 - 3/8 would be good? What do you think? Do your skirts fit just so with the 1 inch? Thanks in advance!

      I find that 1 inch give me room to breathe. When I use my exact waist measurement it tends to be too tight and uncomfortable, especially if I have a meal lol

    Do you need to add any allowance at the centre back seam.for the zip? Thank you! The finished skirt is beautiful x

      Thank you! No I didn't add any seam allowance for the back, it's already included in the radius

    Hi! What was your fabric width? Because I’m trying to make a floor length circle skirt with 54” width and i’m 5’3. Would that work?

      My fabric was 45" inches wide and I'm 5'7. 54" fabric will work great

    So I tried the circle skirt and used my measurements but after cutting it, it was almost 10 inches too big. Is there a different technique when using a silky knit fabric? Is seam allowance still needed?

      Yes, if you are using a knit fabric, it would need to be made smaller, than say if you were using a regular woven fabric like cotton.

      Hi there! Yes, when using knit fabric you want to use a smaller radius to account for the stretch in the fabric. Depending on the stretch content of your fabric, you want to subtract 2-4 inches from your waist measurement.

    I tried to click where you said to get the measurements, but I wasn't able to get anything. Could you please tell me how much fabric I need to purchase to make this skirt? Thanks!😊

    Ar the risk of showing my ignorance, I have to ask, what do we do with the folded over piece without the seam allowance? Should I garbage it?

      This is a great question, I saved it and used it for another pattern drafting project. You can also use it for the waistband pattern pattern piece. I'm all for repurposing
