    Yammie I swung my leg over my first bike since I was Court order not to own or operate a motorcycle till I was 21 when I was 8 and a dirt bike brat. I'm 45 now and decided it was time to learn something I promised myself I do when I grew up, still have a lite hoodlum in me but I'm older and have slowed down a little and it was fun even if it was in the parking lot for a couple of hours practicing friction zone, taking off, stopping and turning. I've beem watching your videos for the last two years and went out and bought a used bike and did some wrench time on it, previous owner dropped it. Definitely pull the trigger. My MT09 makes me feel like a kid, I am a complete idiot on it and I love it. I keep my wheel down as much as I can though, which isn't really as hard as people make it seem.... unexpected wheelies can lead to problems. Its possible to have fun on this bike, but also minimizing risk. The rider finds that balance, not the bike.

    I agree with God father Yam here. I bought an MT09 as my fist bike, and I've been riding dirt bikes since I was about 5 or 6 years old. I've ridden a 50cc dirt bike up to a 500cc dirt bike. I thought "Hey I could handle an mt09 no probs." But boiyo I was in for a treat. The only reason I would say it's a bad choice for a beginner bike is cause of the bottom end tourque. It creeps up on ya faster then Jason creeps up on a group of college girls. While there's settings on it to adjust the throttle response and what not, you are not gonna keep this baby from being a unicycle at any point in time. You hear alot of people say its a tourque monster and they are not lying. Im about ready to just throw out my from wheele all together cause I barely use it.

    • @jlkraus2
      @jlkraus2 4 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      I talked to my mechanic about mine I asked "It used to wheelie all the time but now I crack the throttle and it stays down" That bikes as fast as it ever was. Thats your self preservation instinct. You are leaning forward... Listen to it and stay alive.

Second have you ever ridden and MT09? Do you even know what the MT stands for? I bought a 2020 MT09 back in March, This bike is not as fast or torque monster like everyone says, If you ever rode a 450 dirt bike you will be disappointed in this bike. Every review I watched before buying it was like "Wheelie all the time" bull shit!! I can full throttle in 2nd without pulling the front wheel unless yanking back. and cant get it to pull the tire in 3rd without clutch up. Also tops out at 134 MPH. As far as maintenance goes- this bike is amazing can change the oil in 5 min. I really love this bike its just not nearly as powerful as I was hoping

    • @Spite171
      @Spite171 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@adamknight2623 Try putting it in A mode not keeping it in B mode and you have to turn off the traction control or it will purposely bog the engine down so you won't flip it over backwards. Get a little hair on your chest and let the baby rip and you'll see what it can ACTUALLY do. If you're gonna sit there an putts around on it and not let the engine do what it was made to do, you will be disappointed. Thats not the bikes fault tho. You just have to have be able to Crack the throttle and let that ol gurl sing.

    I own a xsr900 and my wife has a street triple and she got hers for cheaper. After riding both I think it’s fair to say that the street triple feels a lot better and it’s built better... however my xsr900 is more fun to ride. I’ve taught some people the basics on that bike and when it’s in B mode it’s not crazy. But I do see how someone who is learning by themselves could get into a bit of trouble. It’s all on the rider and how they learn and how invested they are into perfecting there riding technique. Take a riding class or work with someone who has... it’s only going to benefit you in the end!

    I just got an MT09, is my first bike and also I’m learning how to ride on that bike. I feel scared all the time but I have a strong discipline and I respect the fact that I am just a new rider.
    I take the bike after work every single day about 8:30pm to 9pm where the sunset is on point.
    I’m getting more confident day by day, is my third week but I have never send it like I do in my 11th gen Si. 😂
    One thing I have to say: I feel embarrassed when people look at me on a tragic light and after I start moving all shaky trying not to fall they look again like “why are you on that monster😒” however I enjoy it 😂
    Confidence it’s a double edged sword, as soon I start feeling over confident I just go back home and chill. I’ve realize that sometimes I’m shaking 🫨 so yeah… a lot of self control. Not a beginner bike.

    2020 MT-09 owner here, overall I love the bike and would recommend it. However I would recommend to Yamaha, it REALLY REALLY needs cruise control in the USA. I also think they should by standard come with some type of mini windshield so it deflects the wind a bit so it doesn't hit my chest creating drag/resistance. Also I find the seats unbearable for long rides even with the MT-09 comfort seat upgrade. I will soon upgrade to a saddleman but little disappointed I have to spend 500 for a saddleman seat. Coming from person who only ridden 2007 GSXR for 10 years and then this, OMG the torque is awesome and makes city commuting bearable. Anyways over all this bike is awesome but this is coming from a person who really only ridden two types of motorcycle.

    I bought a 2014 FZ09 last month, after riding a R3 for a year. "Luckily", the prev owner haven't done the throttle remap, so I can test it. Every millimeters of the throttle matters lol. I didn't even use standard mode for commuting. After the dealer remaps the throttle, it smooth out a lot. I never did any unwanted wheelie. So if you smooth out your throttle at start, you will be fine. The down side of this bike is the fuel tank is a bit small for triple-cylinder imo. It will get quite hot to your leg under the sun (maybe I was upgrade from a 2-cylinder fairing to 3-cylinder naked). BTW, I am 5'5 so I have a difficulty to walk the bike backward, but otherwise is okay.

I loved the engine and the ergos (and the price ofc) but i knew this would end badly. The bike works great unless you start pushing it hard. Today with things like the 790 duke or the new street triple R with full electronics and great suspention its hard to choose the mt 09 even if its a bit cheaper...

If you are going second hand and like the older styling try and aim for a 2016 as youll get features from both although it does still lack the fully adjustable suspension.
