For new riders: The MT09 is like an American muscle car. Just a whole lot of engine and not much else, just the basics to hurl you into all kinds of trouble lol.

But the equivalent of a muscle car? Just NO. Get the SP version or upgrade suspension on basic and you can be slow advanced group among liter race bikes on track days. That's more than enough handling for me.

I own a xsr900 and my wife has a street triple and she got hers for cheaper. After riding both I think it’s fair to say that the street triple feels a lot better and it’s built better... however my xsr900 is more fun to ride. I’ve taught some people the basics on that bike and when it’s in B mode it’s not crazy. But I do see how someone who is learning by themselves could get into a bit of trouble. It’s all on the rider and how they learn and how invested they are into perfecting there riding technique. Take a riding class or work with someone who has... it’s only going to benefit you in the end!

I just got an MT09, is my first bike and also I’m learning how to ride on that bike. I feel scared all the time but I have a strong discipline and I respect the fact that I am just a new rider.
I take the bike after work every single day about 8:30pm to 9pm where the sunset is on point.
I’m getting more confident day by day, is my third week but I have never send it like I do in my 11th gen Si. 😂
One thing I have to say: I feel embarrassed when people look at me on a tragic light and after I start moving all shaky trying not to fall they look again like “why are you on that monster😒” however I enjoy it 😂
Confidence it’s a double edged sword, as soon I start feeling over confident I just go back home and chill. I’ve realize that sometimes I’m shaking 🫨 so yeah… a lot of self control. Not a beginner bike.

2020 MT-09 owner here, overall I love the bike and would recommend it. However I would recommend to Yamaha, it REALLY REALLY needs cruise control in the USA. I also think they should by standard come with some type of mini windshield so it deflects the wind a bit so it doesn't hit my chest creating drag/resistance. Also I find the seats unbearable for long rides even with the MT-09 comfort seat upgrade. I will soon upgrade to a saddleman but little disappointed I have to spend 500 for a saddleman seat. Coming from person who only ridden 2007 GSXR for 10 years and then this, OMG the torque is awesome and makes city commuting bearable. Anyways over all this bike is awesome but this is coming from a person who really only ridden two types of motorcycle.

Even tho its better its still very flawed and in some cases i would say dangerous, i have ridden the 2019 mt09 on good rubber with correct suspention setting & SAG and the bike was unstable while doing more than 170 km/h in straight line and in fast corrners (110km/h) with high lean it was more than unstable. I loved the engine and the ergos (and the price ofc) but i knew this would end badly. The bike works great unless you start pushing it hard. Today with things like the 790 duke or the new street triple R with full electronics and great suspention its hard to choose the mt 09 even if its a bit cheaper...

If you are going second hand and like the older styling try and aim for a 2016 as youll get features from both although it does still lack the fully adjustable suspension. I bought a 2014 FZ09 last month, after riding a R3 for a year. "Luckily", the prev owner haven't done the throttle remap, so I can test it. Every millimeters of the throttle matters lol. I didn't even use standard mode for commuting. After the dealer remaps the throttle, it smooth out a lot. I never did any unwanted wheelie. So if you smooth out your throttle at start, you will be fine. The down side of this bike is the fuel tank is a bit small for triple-cylinder imo. It will get quite hot to your leg under the sun (maybe I was upgrade from a 2-cylinder fairing to 3-cylinder naked). BTW, I am 5'5 so I have a difficulty to walk the bike backward, but otherwise is okay.

I have had the 2015 FZO9 for 3 seasons now. I'm 52 and have ridden the old 1977 - 1980 KZ'S and Suzuki gs850 1982 . Dirt bikes etc.. but yes this pulls harder than any I've rode. Light weight and tons of torque. Yes if you even hit a bump in the road and your hand twists a fraction the throttle pulls. I never did wheelies on street bike until this one. Not big long ones but HUNDREDS of them. Experience helps. Respect this bike or it bites

I want to get a SV650X because I really like the cafe racer look and I like what you have to say about it. Adam Waheed from Motorcyclist.com agrees with you. I also was considering a Honda CB300R. My question is why don’t you talk about more 300s as starter bikes? You gave away a CB650R as a starter. Do you think I would regret getting the CB300R as a starter? Thanks again for all your work.

Love my 2020 Z900. Kawasaki stepped one with a large color display, led lighting, led blinkers, abs, traction control, ride aids and little more overall performance. The Z900 edged out in my opinion after riding both bikes. All for same price as MT09. The mt09 needs to update dash display, those ugly ass blinkers, suspension and refine the engine some more.

I have ridden the 2019 mt09 on good rubber with correct suspention setting & SAG and the bike was unstable while doing more than 170 km/h in straight line and in fast corrners (110km/h) with high lean it was more than unstable. I loved the engine and the ergos (and the price ofc) but i knew this would end badly. The bike works great unless you start pushing it hard. Today with things like the 790 duke or the new street triple R with full electronics and great suspention its hard to choose the mt 09 even if its a bit cheaper...

    • @-sympathy-8589

duke 790 suspension is non adjustable and is also wobly above 170 and the stock tyers are garbage, if i could go back and choose again i would try the mt09 just for the reason ktm has lots of cheaper parts and they use the same forks on almost al there duke's

    • @ivanda64LPGames
      @ivanda64LPGames 4 ปีที่แล้ว

@@-sympathy-8589 good i would rather choose a good non adjustable front fork than an adjustable one which cannot be adjusted to work good. Iam not saying its perfect... But imho the bike is better in the suspention and electronics departmetment. Mt09 is all about the engine but the rest...

I went to a dealership today, Never ridden but i have signed up for an msf safety course. This is one of the bikes that the salesman recommended for me which he said was mainly due to my size being 6’4 and around 275. I originally wanted to look at a honda rebel as a first bike but i just felt way too big for the machine same with a yamaha bolt (I was leaning towards cruisers when i first went in) he said that the cruisers besides 12k + bikes were too small or too underpowered. I do like the styling of the mt09 and it felt great to sit on but any advice on where i should lean to?
