The GSXR750 was always a really good bike. Doesn't matter if the masses didn't understand where to put it. Is it fun to ride?? That's all that ever mattered.
Same argument I was making for the r9 when it was just a rumor. Bikes don't have to have a race category to be good bikes. The r9 is still misunderstood because people think it was supposed to replace the r6 or in europe the r1. They cannot grasp the concept that a good bike can just be a good bike without all the comparisons.
@@evotech43 I have the 2015 Gsx S750. I've ridden for almost 25 years. I've owned 5 motorcycles. The Gxs S is my favorite motorcycle that I've ever owned.
A gixxer 1000 is only superior for 3 things: High speed pulls, all out top speed, and low end torque. And there's absolutely a place for that, no doubt, but a gixxer 750 is superior for EVERYTHING ELSE...
Your attitude shift on scooters and mini motos is just as much proof of Your evolution as a rider as any track day and adv Dad status can indicate. Love the always great content Tuareg Noob
You think HD will still be around in 20 years! On current trends their bikes will have 7000cc engines delivering 50 horsepower in 2045. Oh and weigh about the same as a Cadillac pimpmobile.
They weren't ahead of their time at all, 750s simply were the predecessors to 1000s because superbike racing back then was capped at 750cc for 4 cilinders so all Japanese manufacturers built 750s. But when everyone else replaced their 750s with 1000s Suzuki actually did something very clever and simply added a 1000 while also keeping the 750, thus having a model that bridges the gap between a 600 and a 1000 which even today is a market virtually nobody is in despite there being quite a bit of demand. The middleweight market isn't exactly new either, hell middleweight bikes predate the 750 lineage as a whole so that's not exactly groundbreaking either. Regardless I do wish there were more bikes like the 750, if you want a sports bike between a 600 and a 1000 basically your only modern options are the Panigale V2 or MV Agusta F3 which are at around 150hp, everything else around that power seems to be either a naked or adventure bike which is a bit of a shame
I just bought a stolen and recovered 2019 GSXR 750 for $3200aud that I’m restoring for road/track purely because of Michael neeves love for this bike. I cannot wait to ride it soon!!
Just recently bought a 2011 GSXR 750, so so happy... the Brembo Monoblocs and Showa BPF forks are amazing... honestly for me if you put in a decent Brembo Front Brake Master Cylinder it is spectacular what you can do... 🤯😍
If it wasn’t for my wife not letting me own 3 bikes, I would still be riding my 2015 Versys 650. I sold it with 93,000 miles on it. Now I only have my 2021 zx14r and my 2024 Zx4rr, which I ride to work. I really hated getting rid of the Versys. It was the perfect commuter bike. Great storage capacity, good fuel economy, cheap maintenance, super comfortable (with the Sargent seat), cheap insurance, and super reliable. In my mind taking my 40th anniversary Zx4rr to work every day is a crime.
I appreciate this channel so much. My first introduction is seeing r3 how to ride videos didn’t subscribed… years went on. Then years later seeing Do it with Dan speak about your accident and it seemed like everyone was out for you crowning TH-cam’s motorcycle moron. I subscribed around the time you were recovering. I wanted to see how you were doing and how you would return and I’m glad I did because you lean into all aspects of riding and promote safety and fun at your own skill level. It’s just plainly great content
One of the best things about the gsxr 600/750 is that the bikes are the exact same for the years, with no differences besides engine and gold forks. Which means if your 600 somehow blows up, you can slap a 750 in with little difficulty.
And now Yammie is praising the Versys and actually coming to terms with why the bike is so popular. Understanding what a bike brings to market and not trying to shoehorn all bikes into what you like. Great content Yammie, you elevated yourself yet again in being a trustworthy source of all motorcycle knowledge. Kudos and Congrats.
Do it, I have a 2011 GSXR 750 and love it. Just need to put handle bar risers on it or flip the right side clip on to the left as I did. Makes it much nicer on the back.
The gsxr 750 was my first street bike. Absolutely loved it until it got stolen.. still miss that bike. It was such a raw well balanced bike. Another really great slept on bike is the honda vfr 750/800s
There's also a uniquely huge market for bikes like the Versys and NC700 that most Americans don't consider. That is a winter hack/commuter as a second bike. You have your nice supersport or whatever for those fun rides, and then you have your Versys to do the slog to work while getting thorugh salted roads and never getting cleaned. It's highly practical and way quicker to ride in tight European cities vs driving.
The gsxr 750 is an awesome bike...ive owned all the gsxr bikes from 600 up and the 750 is by far the best....it might not have the power of the 1000 but its quick and more race radical if you puck the right model....if ridden right it will keep with and beat the 1000s that are often badly ridden
GSXR was my 2nd road bike back in 95 and boy oh boy did i love it, 1st was the RGV - Nothing wrong with the GSXR at all, they did the 1k etc and i say they have shown great foresight in holding the 750 model, typical Suzuki fashion - long game
That’s me right now with the middle weight ADV bikes. I would love to own a jack of all trades bike as my first, but I would still love a naked or sport too.
I get what you are saying about ADV bikes. I live just a couple hrs north of Austin in a rural area. I find running the backroads and secondary highways anywhere from Dallas to San Antonio absolutely worthwhile and have found some really cool scenic roads. I know my only two choices are to ride farther or start hitting the dirt roads. A middle weight ADV would be absolutely amazing for those kinds of just out and exploring day trips.
I rode the wheels off a GSX-R 750 back in the late '80s. A riding buddy had the GSX-R 1000. We both agreed that the 750 was the better bike. Much more predictable, you could do things with the 750 that you wouldn't try on the 1000. My current bike is a Ducati DesertX ADV bike. Put over 20k miles on it in 18 months. Stellar bike.
I gotta say, Yam, I bought a Honda Monkey for my wife about six years ago. Between her, my daughter, and our grandkids, that was the best money we’ve ever spent on motorcycles. Don’t resist the Grom - it’s nothing but fun.
Wooo! Get a Grom! I first got an old but reliable Ninja 250 first year I had a shop do everything because I didn’t want to mess up my first bike, especially for safety reasons. I got a Grom as a second bike to learn wrenching. I’ve installed so many parts and modded the crap out of my Grom. I have tools now, knowledge, confidence. Once I get a crash cage I’ll start learning wheelies.
That's why, after being in the market for a new bike for a year I studied and read and researched every liter bike and supersport stats and ride and race reviews and results, eventually landing on the 2022 GSXR750Z. Bought it own it, will keep it! Best bike I've ever owned! Completely modified with upgrades everywhere!
@ Yammie: Thank you for this video! I live in Hamburg, Germany. I love my 2022 Grom! The city turns into a big fun park and myself into age 15. The power to weight ratio is spot on in my perception. As it is on my 2014 883 Iron. Riding this motorcycle just feels sooo satisfying, it's insane! I'm glad that you're a connoisseur now Yammie. I thought I was down 1:2 , the only scorerpoint by my 2019 MT-09 SP. Stock exhaust, but intake modified & dyno'ed. Qickshifter is now up and down, power now is 123 PS / 100 Nm, always around 10 Nm more up from 2500 revs. Fueling feels perfect now, the intake sound really big haha. Sorry for the long comment, i was taken away by your change of mind :D .
The GSXR750 is on the global site but is not sold where I live or the UK. However the GSX S750 is still selling well at a discount price at my local store. A forgotten and underrated bike. Cheapest 114bhp in the market.
The GSXR-750 doesn't cost Suzuki anything to make since its essentially just the GSXR-600 with more displacement. From the early 90's to the point where the 600 class disappeared, the 750 was just a no-brainer to make. And, they were easy to sell to anyone who wanted a compact sportbike but with more torque and no real desire to fit into a certain size class.
3 is the correct number. Or at least for me. A dual sport covers all dirt/adventure/local roads. A sport tourer for all your addrenaline road activities/odd track day. A muscle cruiser for when you just wanna strut.
I've got a Honda 750 adventure bike. Jack of all trades, master of none - but precisely because of that, it turned out to be a pretty good starting point. YES, it's boring after a while. YES, it's not that super capable. YES, I went for another bike. However, it's reliable, it's reasonably cheap, can work as a commuter but also manages long distance highway trips, can handle some offroad, can pack decent amount of baggage. That's not bad at all.
Honestly at age 53 and roughly 50+ bikes ridden (9 owned) I had at least some type of fun on every one. And usually found out what they sucked at too. Which is why now I ride a very "boring" bike that isn't that great at anything - except for being pretty good at EVERYTHING.
I think used motorcycles are the thing nowadays since there are tons of barley used bikes on the market. I've been riding 2nd hand bikes for 19 years now. I rode my 2nd hand ZRX for 17 years and just got a like new 2015 V-Strom 650 . The best bikes are not new ones anymore 😊
I rode my Ducati Monster S2R 800 this summer for 3700 km in 12 days, I'm 60 years old, man did my body hurt after this Trip, about 8 weeks ago I bought my second motorcycle, a BMW F650GS Twin (800cc), the ride is much more relaxed, won't sell the Monster because that was and is my dream motorcycle, but the little GS is much more fun to ride on long stretches (400 km +). I really think that those medium size adventure bikes are good for touring but also are good commuters. I hardly feel any speed difference between the sporty Monster and the GS, both have excellent handling in corners on dry and wet asphalt, both have about 75 HP so I think they are comparable. The GS is much more nibel than the Monster.
Totally agree about the GSXR750. Suzuki need to seize the moment, update it asap & relaunch it globally. It's potentially better than an R9 if they update & price it appropriately.
Turn your indicator off. Seriously in the market for a Transalp XL750 next year, moving up from a Fazer FZ6, so am also feeling the middleweight ADV bike love.
Great clip. I love my 2011 GSXR 750 and I have ridden and owned many bikes from Harley's to Hayabusa's. The 750 does everything well and fits small to big riders. I'm 2m tall and 120kg and it fits me great. Just did a 2 inch handlebar rise to make it right and changed the gearing so it takes off a bit better, Its a fun bike and you cant kill them. Please Suzuki update the GSXR 750 because it will win the middle class for sure and give the R9 a run for its money. Also we don't get the GSXR 750 in Australia or England anymore because of the emissions stuff. Come on Suzuki :)
As someone who has put 1100 miles on Ari Henning's Versys, plus about 7000 miles on my own (RIP, got totaled in a botched theft attempt), can confirm it is very reliable and also inspires about as much passion as my toaster does. It's a great bike for a little bit of everything, but I do think it's got some weird flaws -- extremely delicate turn signal mounts, a very twitchy short wheelbase (this is more of a double-edged sword than a strictly bad thing), and really needed a center stand. I think it'd have been the perfect bike for me if I lived in a big Western city like LA, Denver, or Houston, but out East it was kind of a bear on the extremely tight streets of my DENSE old city.
For me, I’d have to do three bikes. I love my MT07 for town and twisties so far, next would have to be the R9 or R6 for speedy stuff, then the Grom for the reasons you stated earlier 😅
I think the original feeling towards the 750 was a little wrong to begin with. I feel like it’s going to be interesting to see how it’s going to compete with the new class of motorcycles coming in with the new R9, KTM, and whatever else comes to the class. I do agree that maybe some updates like lighting and a new dash would make the price point more reasonable and competitive with the new offerings. I’m looking forward to being able to ride and compare the R9 and 750 to see what I’m gonna get once I’m recovered from my wreck and ready to get back on a bike.
I don't know about the technology advancements but in 2011 Suzuki trimmed 8kg (17.6 lb) from the overall weight of the GSXR 750. It was already light for a 750... since at least 2006 it's shared the frame of the 600. Suzuki copied their longer stroke motor for the K5 1000 to make the 750 narrow to fit in the 600 frame. It's only about 2 or 3kg heavier than the 600, so power - weight with the latest 750 is epic anyway even without any major updates since 2011.
I drive my grom on dirt roads and doing crazy stuff that it has NO BUSINESS to got some shinko mobbers. And I plan on learning how to wheelie on. ( if your going to stunt it, drop a tooth in the front 14 and put a aftermarket chain on) and ya know the stunt cage and all that
I think that the early 2000s sport touring bikes are actually what is having a Renaissance. The triumph Sprint ST 955 and 10:50 are very similar to the new bikes, and the vfr800. People are attracted to the sportiness of the bike but don't want the crunched up position. Adventure bikes are tall and cumbersome. Most people don't take them off-road so to speak. I've always been a fan of the original sport tour aka upright sport bike..
Honda Hornet (the OG Hornet) rider here, the only thing that would make me trade in my 919 for any brand new bike just might be if Suzuki made a GSXR750 naked bike with standard rider ergos.
That's why I'm thinking on switching my current ride from an amazing Speed Triple R to a V-Strom 650 XT 19 on or a BMW F 750 GS. By the way... wich one guys? And why? Similar prices when used here in Brazil.
Hey Yams, can you buy and compare the minibikes. They'd make great giveaway bikes I think. [CFMoto Papio CL(only because I personally like it more than the Papio SS), Honda Grom, Kawasaki Z125, and the Benneli TNT135]
Since you've repented of your sins against the Versa 650, perhaps you should rethink your position on the Vulcan S 650, since it's largely the same bike with a little different stance. Perfect for an old guy such as myself who wants a rock solid, bulletproof commuter bike that still looks like a cruiser.
They were selling them here in Australia for $13500 about 4 years ago, I was tempted to get one as a second bike. Now people are trying to sell second hand ones for the same price or not much less. I have never ridden one but they are definitely interesting.
i lost my mind.. now I bought Kove 510x adv:-):-) I will check for myself what these motorcycles are worth.. for now I have 1.5k km and everything is fine, I will continue testing
Please do a review on the Forcite MK1 helmet with inbuilt camera and any competitors. Here in Australia helmet mounted ANYTHING to your helmet is being banned State by State across the country. We have more safety police here than a kindergarten.
I owned a GSXR750, a ZX6R, an R6, and now a CBR1000RR fireblade. I straight traded my 750 for my blade. I miss my 750 someone bring me 6k cash so I can go get my 750 back. The 750 class is the perfect middle weight
As someone who owns one. A flagship one. Ya they do everything well. But they don't excel at anything. With their crash bars I guess they're good at being dropped. That's about it.
The 750 is so much better than the 600 class bikes, too. Much better low end power, so much better for street use. And unlike the 600's, it competes WAY better against bikes like the R9.
The GSXR750 was always a really good bike. Doesn't matter if the masses didn't understand where to put it. Is it fun to ride?? That's all that ever mattered.

I thought R9 may have more electronics and possibly cornering abs? May not matter to many. Obviously r9 is slower in straight line.
it already stomps it

I hardly feel any speed difference between the sporty Monster and the GS, both have excellent handling in corners on dry and wet asphalt, both have about 75 HP so I think they are comparable. The GS is much more nibel than the Monster.
Always thought you were wrong about the Grom and GSXR 750.
I’ve owned both and really enjoyed em.
Now, CBR600rr & Grom.
I sold my 2015 Versys with 93,000 miles a year ago. The guy is still riding the bike. It looked brand new when I sold it.
uh oh yammie went shopping at AF1. Dude, i love the livery on the new tuaregs, i would have gotten the same one.
Best of the best bikes
Get yourself on a Guzzi Griso if you want a big, rumbly, aircooled v-twin that's sporty and fun to ride!
Some of that ride looked familiar. Just FYI Yam, good road to check out is FM455 between Sanger and Anna. Yw!
For me, I’d have to do three bikes. I love my MT07 for town and twisties so far, next would have to be the R9 or R6 for speedy stuff, then the Grom for the reasons you stated earlier 😅
The 750 is my my next bike, but I'm unsure of which year I should get. Any suggestions?
The day has come when Yammie genuinely praises the Porkster... what timeline are we in?!
I guess this is why I'm buying my second brand new mt-09.
What do yall think about to Suzuki katana ??
Never been this early all the way from South Africa
Haha can't wait for Yam getting a Grom and his beloved Vespa! 😂
( if your going to stunt it, drop a tooth in the front 14 and put a aftermarket chain on) and ya know the stunt cage and all that
the GSXR 750 is a "Superbike"
I went to the dealership with an idea of what I wanted...then I sat on the RE Himalayan. I have been trying to talk myself out of it ever since.
Tiger Sport 660 > Versys 650. Same idea, but more fun factor. Assuming it proves just as reliable (20k miles on mine and no issues so far).
I very much like the HD Sportster it’s my favourite one 48❤
The 750ccm was competedo the beautiful 900RR.
Both 150 PS.
I buy the SC44. In thes days
Butfor now the 750 is ine of its owne.
I love it
Honda Grom is a great learning tool.
Finally, welcome to the stunt world
Very nice yammie
Is the 750 going for the emissions loophole for old design that dose not need to be retested?
I don’t think the 750 should change. It great just the way it is!!
Hey mate, love your videos. Wind noise on this one is a bit much, just a heads up💪
is he driving a Aprilia Tuareg ? Well he changed his mind a lot about trails. Awesome bike btw
What you've described doing to the GSXR 750 is basically the GSXS 750.
If you only have room for one bike, that would be the GSXR750. Best bikes I have owned.
Did the grom. Over it. I wiped the floor so many times aghaha
The Gixxer 750 aged like fine wine! It’s the perfect bike.
i lost my mind.. now I bought Kove 510x adv:-):-) I will check for myself what these motorcycles are worth.. for now I have 1.5k km and everything is fine, I will continue testing
Please do a review on the Forcite MK1 helmet with inbuilt camera and any competitors. Here in Australia helmet mounted ANYTHING to your helmet is being banned State by State across the country. We have more safety police here than a kindergarten.
The cheaper dual sports crf300l and klx300 do a lot more for motorcycling as a entry dual sport than any of the bikes you listed.
I'd rather have a small dual sport than a grom. Does everything the grom does, but can also go off-road legitimately.
I owned a GSXR750, a ZX6R, an R6, and now a CBR1000RR fireblade. I straight traded my 750 for my blade. I miss my 750 someone bring me 6k cash so I can go get my 750 back. The 750 class is the perfect middle weight
ADV bikes do everything well except look good.
As someone who owns one. A flagship one. Ya they do everything well. But they don't excel at anything. With their crash bars I guess they're good at being dropped. That's about it.
the gixer 750 rules over all sub 1000 sport bikes,
The 750 is so much better than the 600 class bikes, too. Much better low end power, so much better for street use. And unlike the 600's, it competes WAY better against bikes like the R9.
Nice new backdrop 😜
Yeap Suzuki should update the 750..especially QS.
makes me wonder, what/where are the grom competitors?
