When you do a REMAKE of an old video game, nobody gives a fu%$# about YOUR "interpretation" of the source material. You have to understand the vision of the original creators and work within those boundaries, you are just bringing that original material to modern hardware, you don't have to think about anything else but graphics and gameplay, it is not your place to alter the story, the characters, the atmosphere, etc... all that job is already done for you. All in all, making remakes should be the easiest type of video game you can develop.
James is no "model" in this AWFUL remake, dude. You're spot on about Angela, but James is nowhere near being a "model". He's definitely a far cry from the James of the classic Silent Hill 2, who looked better than the one in this awful "remake".
Angela suffers from depression and sexual abuse. She was never meant to be ogled by the player. The changes are more lore accurate. Abuse victims typically don't fixate on their appearance.
For me it was Yet another tone deaf remake of a game from the 90's/early 2000's from developers that don't understand what made the old game great in the first place = hard pass.

I think they look like relatively good/normal-looking women. Maria looks sexier because of the clothes she's wearing + her makeup and personality. With Angela I see a tired/stressed woman (And she is a woman at 19), which i don't get from the in-game model. There's another scene of her that looks more closely to her tired look, but I don't see it as a good sign when the model changes so much from scene to scene. I mean, Angelas model in game is not the same as the one used in the cutscenes in the original, but you can tell they share similarities.

I'm so baffled by comments on that vein because 1. If it's about realism, in real life people of the same age don't look, sound or even act the same. They may share similarities but there's no standard appearance for a 19-year old. 2. Characters are even more varied because the age becomes irrelevant for whatever premise the story has. That's why we have stories where the greatest detective and smartest person in the world is a 17-year old, when babies are able to save the world from Gozilla, and where teenagers are played by actors in their mid 20s and 30s. And 3. Because Angela is not some random teenager who made her way to Silent Hill, she's a victim of trauma and a very awkward person, the model and acting should reflect that.

But seriously, looking at the gameplay footage the remake has a lot more problems other than character redesign. The animations, the voice acting, the subtlety in storytelling, etc Overall quality gives off cheap Polish horror vibes The graphics look ok, but that's mainly thanks to UE5 though. Considering it's a classic of the genre, I'd expect Konami to aim for the RE2 remake quality. And this looks very far from it. Needs so much more love put into it to be on that level.

Curves that don't quit, legs that go on for days and a focus on over exposed cleavage that is unapologetically sexy. However the heads are severely bloodied and bandaged, covering up what would be a mutilated face. And ALL this is done on purpose by the developers. They went out of their way to make sure that the themes of their game matched with the art direction in all aspects. The nurses being the way they are, and James' "wife" looking the way she does are all in service to this fact. This was because in Silent Hill, everything you encounter is a reflection of your deepest held beliefs, secrets, and desires. All the demons you keep, all skeletons in your closet, everything you are shamed and haunted by come out and are pushed to the forefront to put you at unease. In the real world, James' wife was dying a slow painful agonizing death. And what was James doing during all this? Having impure sexual thoughts about the attractive nurses taking care of her at the hospital where she was staying. As a result of this, the nurses are a reflection of the guilt that James feels for his behavior during this time. He is in a sense being punished by Silent Hill itself for his perverted nature and disregard for his wife in her final days. The devs and the DEI group brought in to "sanitize" the game for a "modern audience" doesnt get this fact. It is entirely LOST on them, and thus do we get the game before us. This game was doomed from the start. All we can do now is hope that it flops and Konami learns their lesson. Keep eastern IPs in eastern hands, where this DEI BS is nonexistent and hasnt crept into every nook and cranny of artistic expression and design.
Oof those eyebrows definitely. In regards to the rest of the character design I don't really have an issue with Angela and makes as much sense to me as in the original. Both look off putting. While I believe it is a DEI thing, in this case it actually fits her backstory and what she went through for her entire life, family home and waitress job. The face from the original looking older than 19 years old and starting to get a little gaunt, that's from using drugs to cope. The remake design is using binge eating and obesity to cope. Both extremely common side effects for people who have experienced what she has. Maria I'm not sold on yet, looking to have a character design less sexualised, especially with what looks like the relocation of her tattoo, but haven't seen enough of how her interpretation is handled in the remake and only really seen situations where she isn't meant to be or look likke that. A way in which I think would be interesting to see would be when her character gets more flirtatious, aka "do I look like your girlfriend?", "I'm here for you James" and "Do you want me?" etc would be to have her character model shift gradually to a more sexualised sleazy version of it. I highly doubt that would happen though.

Team Silent is the ones being disrespected, because by telling people they are wrong for loving the original designs you are hating on the original Team's creation. as soon as I saw they hired a DEI company; I took the game off my steam wishlist. it doesn't affect me because I woud have preferred a Silent Hill 1 remake, that game is too dated and needed it more, but I guess if they do it at some point I'll be skipping it too since we already know konami is woke trash now.

I own the OG SH2 and SH3 on PC via physical media. Those were great games, and still are. I'll stick with those two games. Too bad the first SH never made it to PC, but I can play it via emulation. I have the OG SH on CD as well as I purchased the PS1 CD for cheap at a used book store. That was also a great game.

But they are amateurs in skills compared to what a developer company should be, in order to be in the right seat to create a good remake of such a legendary game. With remakes of video games(movies, and TV series as well), it seems like the people remaking it either never played the game or didn't understand it. When it comes to art like this, if the players who are the most passionate about the original don't feel nostalgia and the same emotions triggered by the original then they are not doing it right. This is possible to do, the RE2 remake is an example in my opinion. I do like some of the atmosphere, buildings, streets etc. I am seeing in the trailer, but with the exception of maybe Laura, the characters are all fails for me so far. Unfortunately even James. I liked him just the way he was...

If I recall correctly a lot of the character models in SH 1-4 were based on ideas of Japanese devs inspired by American pop culture/ celebrities. Angela always reminded me of several such as Sandra Bullock, PJ Harvey , Eddie reminded me of Patrick Renna (Sandlot kid with backwards cap and striped shirt) and Chris Farley, James reminded me of Bill Pullman and several other male actors in the US. Maria was like Christina Aguilera and Michelle Pfeiffer. Harry was like Harrison Ford and other actors melded. Walter Sullivan was like a bloody Brad Pitt. Anyway the list goes on. I can’t be alone in seeing this lol

A trailer should give you information that makes you decide if you want to play a game or not. If someone recommends me a game and I see in the trailer it has stealth sections or is a FPS, with just that information i know I don't want to play it. At this point, there have been several trailers, gameplay videos and cutscenes shown to know how the game was adapted for the remake, and to know you are not interested. Also, whether the game is great or not has nothing to do with support or lack of it. So far the franchise has been neglected and all I see is an attempt to get people to buy merchandise.
I don't mind if remakes don't exactly follow the original storyline. It's nice to get new perspectives, added locations and gameplay, more story and background context. But I'm not a fan of adding real-life activism into games. That's propaganda and there's no place for that in a fictional story that has nothing to do with politics or activism. The new Maria doesn't look quite right. She's too innocent and scared looking. She looks very young and fresh-faced. Maria was supposed to be a surreal, confident, hyper-sexualized version of the mousy, scared and indecisive Mary. Maria has seen some things and been around the block once or twice. That was James' inner fantasy of Mary which he knew she could never be. It doesn't bother me too much that Angela looks like a trans with Groucho Marx eyebrows. Hopefully, they don't get preachy about patriarchy and how all men are predators, # MeToo, etc... I'll keep an open mind and see how things turn out. Worst case scenario, I'll just wait a year or two and buy it at a deep discount and check it out.

Curves that don't quit, legs that go on for days and a focus on over exposed cleavage that is unapologetically sexy. However the heads are severely bloodied and bandaged, covering up what would be a mutilated face. And ALL this is done on purpose by the developers. They went out of their way to make sure that the themes of their game matched with the art direction in all aspects. The nurses being the way they are, and James' "wife" looking the way she does are all in service to this fact.
This was because in Silent Hill, everything you encounter is a reflection of your deepest held beliefs, secrets, and desires. All the demons you keep, all skeletons in your closet, everything you are shamed and haunted by come out and are pushed to the forefront to put you at unease. In the real world, James' wife was dying a slow painful agonizing death. And what was James doing during all this? Having impure sexual thoughts about the attractive nurses taking care of her at the hospital where she was staying. As a result of this, the nurses are a reflection of the guilt that James feels for his behavior during this time. He is in a sense being punished by Silent Hill itself for his perverted nature and disregard for his wife in her final days.
The devs and the DEI group brought in to "sanitize" the game for a "modern audience" doesnt get this fact. It is entirely LOST on them, and thus do we get the game before us. This game was doomed from the start. All we can do now is hope that it flops and Konami learns their lesson. Keep eastern IPs in eastern hands, where this DEI BS is nonexistent and hasnt crept into every nook and cranny of artistic expression and design.

Oof those eyebrows definitely. In regards to the rest of the character design I don't really have an issue with Angela and makes as much sense to me as in the original. Both look off putting. While I believe it is a DEI thing, in this case it actually fits her backstory and what she went through for her entire life, family home and waitress job. The face from the original looking older than 19 years old and starting to get a little gaunt, that's from using drugs to cope. The remake design is using binge eating and obesity to cope. Both extremely common side effects for people who have experienced what she has.
Maria I'm not sold on yet, looking to have a character design less sexualised, especially with what looks like the relocation of her tattoo, but haven't seen enough of how her interpretation is handled in the remake and only really seen situations where she isn't meant to be or look likke that. A way in which I think would be interesting to see would be when her character gets more flirtatious, aka "do I look like your girlfriend?", "I'm here for you James" and "Do you want me?" etc would be to have her character model shift gradually to a more sexualised sleazy version of it. I highly doubt that would happen though.

Team Silent is the ones being disrespected, because by telling people they are wrong for loving the original designs you are hating on the original Team's creation. You're calling into question the original story and environment that MADE Silent Hill legendary. That's legit ignorant. Claiming that "not every remake needs to be a 1:1, that goes against the idea of a remake" . . . No . . . fans are asking for a FAITHFUL representation of a legendary game, honor the original creators instead of slapping them in the face. AND NO, there are claims going around that Team Blooper are using the Originally INTENDED designs from the concept art. its kinda crazy that the ps2 cutscenes look more realistic then this ps5 remake, not to mention the ps2 had the whole artistic lighting added to make shots basically an art piece, while the remake is just generated light. as soon as I saw they hired a DEI company; I took the game off my steam wishlist. it doesn't affect me because I woud have preferred a Silent Hill 1 remake, that game is too dated and needed it more, but I guess if they do it at some point I'll be skipping it too since we already know konami is woke trash now.

I own the OG SH2 and SH3 on PC via physical media. Those were great games, and still are. I'll stick with those two games. Too bad the first SH never made it to PC, but I can play it via emulation. I have the OG SH on CD as well as I purchased the PS1 CD for cheap at a used book store. That was also a great game.
If you own the PC Big Box version of Silent Hill 2 I'm jealous... it goes for $1,500+ these days!

@@esteldanDamn. I purchased it off Amazon around 2006 along with the Silent Hill 3 PC edition. I got each one for about $10 a pop. I still play them from time to time. I don't have the OG boxes they came in anymore, which is a shame. But I have the CDs and the manuals.

A western dev comes in to "improve" upon the work of eastern devs and unironically doesn't see how colonialist and imperialist they are being in their world view by shoving "their better vision" on to an already pre-established (and well loved one i might add) vision from the OG creators. Bloober team is Polish, they are not really western, at least not in colonial sense. But they are amateurs in skills compared to what a developer company should be, in order to be in the right seat to create a good remake of such a legendary game. With remakes of video games(movies, and TV series as well), it seems like the people remaking it either never played the game or didn't understand it. When it comes to art like this, if the players who are the most passionate about the original don't feel nostalgia and the same emotions triggered by the original then they are not doing it right. This is possible to do, the RE2 remake is an example in my opinion.
I do like some of the atmosphere, buildings, streets etc. I am seeing in the trailer, but with the exception of maybe Laura, the characters are all fails for me so far. Unfortunately even James. I liked him just the way he was...

If I recall correctly a lot of the character models in SH 1-4 were based on ideas of Japanese devs inspired by American pop culture/ celebrities. Angela always reminded me of several such as Sandra Bullock, PJ Harvey , Eddie reminded me of Patrick Renna (Sandlot kid with backwards cap and striped shirt) and Chris Farley, James reminded me of Bill Pullman and several other male actors in the US. Maria was like Christina Aguilera and Michelle Pfeiffer. Harry was like Harrison Ford and other actors melded. Walter Sullivan was like a bloody Brad Pitt. Anyway the list goes on. I can’t be alone in seeing this lol

I’m playing this day one anyway. I’ve waited too damn long to not play it. I’m gonna give it a shot on its own merit. I only have stalker 2 to come after that and that’s me done with gaming. I’ve had a good run with gaming in my lifetime. I feel it’s coming to an end though.
My wife and I have literally been making new hobbies. We’re slowly but surely getting out of gaming. Sad because we’re both veterans from the Nintendo age and so much has changed for the worst since.
Do not focus on the faces of the characters, but focus on the beauty of the world, the dazzling graphics, and the dark world, and it has truly become more beautiful than the old version. We must be honest, the most beautiful fog city I have ever seen in my life.
I loved only SH1-4 but can't resist this one even with Hit Detection. The Silent Hill HD Collection was a disaster though. Didn't give me that Silent Hill feel like this one does. I haven't pre-ordered it because I'm hoping for a Collector's Edition. Hope the sales are good enough to remake SH 3 and 4. Anyway! I think I should wait for a game review just in case there are many unpleasant surprises.

A trailer should give you information that makes you decide if you want to play a game or not. If someone recommends me a game and I see in the trailer it has stealth sections or is a FPS, with just that information i know I don't want to play it. At this point, there have been several trailers, gameplay videos and cutscenes shown to know how the game was adapted for the remake, and to know you are not interested.
Also, whether the game is great or not has nothing to do with support or lack of it. So far the franchise has been neglected and all I see is an attempt to get people to buy merchandise.
I don't mind if remakes don't exactly follow the original storyline. It's nice to get new perspectives, added locations and gameplay, more story and background context. But I'm not a fan of adding real-life activism into games. That's propaganda and there's no place for that in a fictional story that has nothing to do with politics or activism.
The new Maria doesn't look quite right. She's too innocent and scared looking. She looks very young and fresh-faced. Maria was supposed to be a surreal, confident, hyper-sexualized version of the mousy, scared and indecisive Mary. Maria has seen some things and been around the block once or twice. That was James' inner fantasy of Mary which he knew she could never be.
It doesn't bother me too much that Angela looks like a trans with Groucho Marx eyebrows. Hopefully, they don't get preachy about patriarchy and how all men are predators, # MeToo, etc...
I'll keep an open mind and see how things turn out. Worst case scenario, I'll just wait a year or two and buy it at a deep discount and check it out.
