Another thing that might come across as racist, is the idea of how exactly these people from different ethnic backgrounds introduce 'different cultures' to the project. Like, if they grew up in the United States, then their culture is American. What the heck does Ubisoft think black people are doing in their spare time? I hear this all the time, that it's illegal to hire based on skin color and diversity. It's only illegal to advertise. Any company can hire anyone for any reason. Doesn't matter.

The issue isn't that Ubisoft ignored the cliff they were heading toward, the issue is that they listened to their echo chamber who stated that "dei" was the new standard that was chiseled into stone, and that there would never be meaningful pushback.

Valhalla had excellent combat and skill tree, and solid game world. Shame they did not go further that road, as Mirage was bland trash. Mirage was more polished than any other new Ubi project tho. Outlaws felt and looked like they did not even bother with quality control, because if any of Ubi's big wigs had actually bothered to playtest the game after it went gold, they would've definitely delayed the launch by coupla months at the least.

As someone who loved the Prince of Persia, Splinter Cell and Far Cry games as a child, and put nearly 1000 hours in Rainbow Six Siege before quitting it when they ruined it, I will be the happiest man alive if Ubisoft goes bankrupt/dissolves and their IPs are bought by people who actually care about them.

The thing that happened is they told gamers to get comfortable not owning their own games. I will get used to not owning my own games, when they don't make a hideous, woke game. So never.. 130 bucks for Outlaws, comedy gold.

Maybe it's just because Ubisoft has never made the kind of games that I personally like to play, even a decade ago, but every time I saw their games, whether it was marketing like trailers or gameplay footage they always looked uninteresting and even boring to me. And of course their DEI initiatives makes me even less enthusiastic about them. Ubisoft deserves whatever is coming to them. I expected that Assassins' Creed: Shadows is going to sell well because it's another Assassins' Creed title and most consumers just buy AAA-games because it's the newest entry to their favorite franchise not knowing, or caring, about whatever controversies it has on the internet. But after Star Wars: Outlaw's poor performance, despite being a Star Wars game, I dare speculate that maybe Shadows will sell less than expected/hoped as well.

Besides Starfield, Valhalla is the most boring game I've ever played I played for about 1 hour 45 mins the combat felt floaty the stealth felt like far cry in third person, and now we have ubisoft trying to virtue signal which is so ironic when ubisoft has been exposed as having one of the worst working environments for women besides Activision.

After watching the rogue's deep dive I actually think the combat and progression look great but the companions do not have me excited which is important for bioware games

The problem isn’t the “woke” (BG3 is a good example of a “woke” game doing well), it’s that they are alienating the actual fan base. In the attempt to garner a new generation of fans, they are changing the core values that made the IP (and the company as a whole) so great. The gritty darker vibes exchanged for bloom and bright colors. Trading strategy and tactic in combat for brainless button mashing and flashy combos. That’s what happens when the core team that made the other games gets replaced by people who don’t actually care for what they are making and the legacy that comes with it. Overwatch is another great example. “Woke” characters that people didn’t really have a problem with because the game itself was fun, and the people making it put actual effort into it. Now it’s just a soulless cash grab made by people who only care about making a profit. DAV seems similar, slapping on the Dragon Age name when in reality it doesn’t seem to play, feel, or look like Dragon Age. It’s also why Andromeda was such a flop. Going from a heavily lore and character established game and changing up the core values of the IP made it so that old fans didn’t want anything to do with it, and new fans don’t really care about it.

All modern AAA games are DEI infested nonsense these days. Games made as propaganda, not as a fun product. It shows in how badly they are made. I just automatically tune them out. Luckily good indie devs are a thing.

I did not know what it was about the art style and vibe, hated it but just couldn't name it, but now you've mentioned it, yeah, it's similar to New Tales from the Borderlands, Concord and Fairgames.
