Thanks for this, I have a Ford E350 Super Duty, so I have to get ramps but you gave me confidence to get it done. My mechanic trained me to change at 3,000 mi, so now, after 6 years I have finally paid for it, I will do it myself.
Ford put out a service bulletin changing oil specs to 5w-20 oil, not 5w-30 as the owners manual says. Use only 5w-20 oil, preferably full synthetic. Using 5w-20 helps the valve lifters & timing chains stay lubricated properly & reduces wear.
Mine is 2000 Ford Econoline (E-150), V8. I have 5w-30 full synthetic; glad to know that 5 qts fills up around the middle between min and max. Perhaps I don't need to get a second bottle to fill it up full. Wouldn't it be great if one bottle is enough to fill it to full?
You don't actually need to do that. The engine will fill the oil filter in about 2 seconds. The engine itself has enough oil on its components that it can easily survive with no oil flow for a short time. There is nothing wrong with filling the oil filter with oil if you chose to do so though.
This is the best instructional video I've found! It really helped out today when I was doing my oil change. I'm not even a car person, but I'm going to subscribe anyway. Lol. Much appreciated!
I just found this video and I AM SO GRATEFUL! Thank you for posting this! I got this exact van in blue last year and from knowing nothing about cars to prepping for vanlife, this is something I need to do before taking off as my light came on! Please keep making videos for the '02 e150! You make it super easy to follow. Subscribing for more tutorials!
PSA: If throwing the filter away I like to toss it in the bag I just emptied the cat liter box in. That way the oil gets caught by the nasty used litter.

I herd about that. I mainly use 5w-20 synthetic. Used to use 5w-20 conventional but switched over to synthetic.
Great job on video and info thanks !

I appreciate the compliment!
I'll be doing this tomorrow. I have a 2001 E150 6 cyl so this was extremely relatable.
