2020 Hyundai Kona EV road trip with range issue fix
In this video, I take my 2020 Hyundai Kona on a road trip to Tennessee from North Carolina. In the last video, I had an issue were the car was not reporting how much range it could get accurately. I then found out a trick that might have just fixed that issue which I will show in the video. I also included charging information and range information in the video.

How to stop leaking GI / Military canteen - simple fix for leaky cap
มุมมอง 5K5 ปีที่แล้ว
This video will show how to stop a US military government issued canteen from leaking. Often times water can leak from the cap when the canteen is shaken or placed on its side. A thin plastic O-ring like seal must make perfect contact with the upper lip of the canteen. If the cap can not seal with the lip of the canteen, then water can slowly leak out of the canteen. An easy fix for this, as de...

After all that talk of "lefty loosey, righty tighty", you began threading the new sensor the wrong way...LOL!
Muy bueno el video muchas gracias pq necesitaba cambiar las bombillas de mi van econoline.
There gasmask drinking straws/ hoses ?? Learn about what your talking about before you open your mouth !!
Just searched for exactly this problem. Did what you said and it worked an absolute treat. Thank you!
What size t47?
Any updates?
Left from the top right upside down lol u can't teach common sense
You should update your infotainment system; the latest version has a built in EV route planner.
I have a 2019 Kona EV. I will be taking it on a road trip soon. How do you update the infotainment system? Is that somethign done at the dealer or are there OTA updates?
Kepp it up. 😊
My e450 is stuck in the up position. Will this fox work for that?
If the cable snaps then it will probably have to be replaced
Very helpful and saved me a lot of time. 2 suggestions, 1/4" ratchet is much easier and the plastic auto body trim tool set from harbor freight pops that panel right off. $10.
Did you experience any significant throttling? I had a Nissan leaf before and when I tried to super charge it more than once back to back, it would throttle the charging to the point of making it impossible to road trip. Thinking about getting a Kona. Wondering how much better the experience would be if I went from San Diego to Phoenix and back. Took me about 15 hours in the leaf one way because of throttling.
We didn't experience any throttling until the state of charge became higher which is typical. Once you get to about 80% the charging speed will be slower due to the way lithium battery chemistry works. The Nissan Leaf does not have a liquid cooled battery but instead relies on air cooling which is not efficient especially when the vehicle is not in motion. That is one of the downfalls about the Nissan Leaf is that as the battery gets warm on a road trip it can dramatically impact charging speeds. I would say if you're able to find a good price on a Kona to trade in the leaf and get the Kona because it will be a vehicle with better range and better charging speeds even though the Kona is not as good as more expensive EVs like the ionic 5 or Ford Mach E for example. It is a good contester for the price though. So far we really liked it.
@@theelectricreality yeah I can get a 2022 version for 15 - 17k pretty easily with about 20k to 30k miles on it. I think I might have to go for it. Thanks!
Are you ever going to use your HUD? Or do you hate HUDs?
I don't really care too much for the one in the Kona
Are these USGI canteens? The caps look like they are one piece, USGI canteen caps are two pieces. Plus, the 2qt neck doesn't look solid.
Thanks for the video. When you see EA chargers that are offline, make sure you report it in the app. I've found they do actually send out a technician when a report is made. Also recommend signing up for EVGo Autocharge, it does work with the Kona. Makes the whole process super easy and more reliable. Newer EVGo stations are much faster. I've done four road trips so far with my Bolt EUV. Most recent was ~1500 miles all around the Midwest from Ohio to IN, IL, MO, and (briefly) KY. I've also used the rule of thumb that filling up the distance you need to go + 50 miles always gets you where you need to go.
Do you have to take the radio and temp control to only change the instrument cluster bulbs? Are all the instrument cluster bulbs the same size and number? My right signal bulb is out and I want to use the (as you say) 74 to replace the 73. Thanks for sharing you video.
You will not need to take the temp cluster out but you will need to take the radio out depending on whether or not the front dash piece is one pieces or two pieces.
👍
Thanks
Thanks a bunch!!!!
Enlightening!
Thanks
Thanks! For me, the nut that this bolt goes into had become dettached from the seat frame (a few puny welds held it on) and had fallen off, so the bolt wouldn't tighten onto anything. If this happens to you, the fix is a bit tricker but still quite doable. Move aside the upholstery on the seat and fish around for a bit with a flashlight to find the nut. It won't have gotten far. Then, do this same procedure as the video shows, albeit with a socket wrench holding the nut in place as you tighten with the T47
Get rothco brand. They have a much better lid
Good video
Excellent video bro. Thank you. Just got a 2002 e250 and I need to change these lights. Very good instructions.
Thanks 😊 First time using this.
Thank you!
I had to do this recently because my service engine light bulb went out and they wouldnt pass my inspection. This video was really helpful and I imagine saved me hundreds taking it to a shop. I didnt have nor wanted to purchase the small pry bar and was able to push the tab back with a small allen wrench. Anyway, great video! Very informative and much appreciated!
ITS RECOMENDED YOU WIPE SOME OIL ON THE FILTER GASKETS AND FILL THE FILTER WITH SOME OIL SO ITS NOT FULLY DRY,,,
Are all three sensor the same? With the same hookups?
Thanks!!!
Link for lights pls
By the way, if some of you don't have sandpaper, just take an old nair file that's as fine as possible and just try to file the plastic layer off evenly, then screw the cap on tightly and see how your ring looks, if some lines are thinner then just sand some more there and you are done. Fixes it every time.
Really good video, clear instruction, handy tips, good camera work, chronological steps, thanku!
Great video. Thank you!
On my 2000 Ford E150 Van the right side turn signal indicator light bulb in the dash is out. I am hoping I can get my hand up behind the dash to change it without having to pull the dash. I haven’t looked under the dash as of yet to see if it is possible. Has anyone changed one out that way?
How did that work for you? My right turn signal is out also. Rather not pull the dash. Thanks in advance.
Jeezus. All that work just to get to the cluster.
I will try to fix my Bear Grylls one with way, as it has a sensationally light cooking pot with it
Hi, Do you remember how many bulbs it was total?
This is a fantastic video. I've got a vent to fix and I could not find a video that addressed this for the life of me. Excellent work. Thanks!
Thanks!
Great video...thank you and for switch information
Thanks man!
Hi there. Any long term issues with this Halo Bolt..? 🤔🤔 They also now come with an air compressor. Thanks for the great review 😀😀👍👍
I have not tried the one with an air compressor yet. I'm still using the halo bolt that was in this video. It seems to be lasting well even though it has gone through many summers and winters being left in the vehicle.
@@theelectricreality Thanks for the update... from the UK 👍👍😎
Thanks 🙏

@GlockTard I don’t have that money I will stick to my $3 canteen
@GlockTard ok?
I've used these to jump start batteries that have a slight charge, but not enough to start the vehicle. They work good, but when I tried to start a car with an absolutely dead battery it didn't work. I watched a review with a jump starter called Povasee, that jump starter actually started both a small block V8 without a battery in it and a older Winnebago without a battery in it. It didn't just turn the motor over, it literally started the engine and the engine ran for a few minutes. I don't know if there's some kind of electronic in the Halo that prevents it from starting a car with a dead battery (I know those Schumacher jump starters at Walmart have electronics in the that won't allow you to jump start a dead battery) all I know is even after I left the Halo connected to the battery for at least 15 minutes, the vehicle would not start.
Shut the door OMG
Great info and video.
How can you stop the light from flickering during vehicle start? Can a capacitor fix this?
