    You didn't install a new crush washer when you put the oil drain plug back in? You can get them at Amazon, look up Dorman 65310. They come in a pack of 3.

      Yeah I was used to cars having drain plugs with a permanently attached washer. I ended up buying a felt like drain plug washer and haven't had any issues with it.

    Bought my Mirage Hatchback back in July new.
    Close to the 10,000 mile mark .
    Dealer did the 5,000 mile oil change for free . Now it's up to me .
    Purchased Advance Auto's Oil Change Special .
    5 quarts of Castrol Edge 0W20 and a Purolator Boss oil filter for $33 . Other brands available I decided to go with the Castrol .
    Thanks for taking the time to video . Has been a great help .

    Sweet video. Nice and clear. Haven't seen people adding fresh oil to the filter beforehand, so that was interesting. I haven't worked on this car before so I'm eager to try. My jack stands can be tricky to work with so sometimes I use bricks or pavers as a way of avoiding becoming pancake

      Tommy Parchem Don't do that.. I mean don't fill it down the bigger middle hole , because that is the filtered side... just put it on , it is mounted on the side of the engine block anyway . just my 2cents.

    video was great. question for how much oil you needed was in the comments, i think i used 3 quarts in mine but i got the extended life Mobil 1 filter thats just a little bigger but is rated 1yr 20,000 miles i also am running full synthetic since the car a 3 cylinder 1.2 and doesn't run on much oil so im taking a better oil approach from the get go. noticed we ran the same oil so im feeling more confident on that decion.

      @goten259  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I think it might be the closet to the OEM Oil. It's actually what Mobil 1 recommends for the car.

      I wouldn't go 20K miles between oil changes on a mirage, it was rated for 7,500 miles or 6 months, which ever comes first. Any warranty left on your car is wiped out if they find out you went 20K miles between oil changes.

    The Fram filter is not even close in quality compared to that OEM Denso filter. I would go to the dealer and get some Denso filters for future use.

      Several OEM Filters are made by FRAM. I use OEM filters that are made by FRAM. You can get Denso filters for $3 on rockauto.com, dealer is probably more like double that.

      man is your iq room temp. the quality of a denso is absolutely nothing compared to a vastly surperoor fram ultra. 2 ply fully synthetic media with wire backing and metal caps. do some basic research.

    You didn't read the manual correctly. If you don't use 0W-20 synthetic, then you can use 5W-20 non-synthetic. You used 5W-20 full synthetic and you should have used 0W-20.

    How long did it take real time to go from 3:16 to 3:19? I've heard that taking off a Mirage oil filter is a nightmare.

    • @goten259
      @goten259  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Probably between 3-5 minutes. It is my least favorite part of changing the oil on the Mirage. The band type oil filter tool is the best method that I've found. Although, If the oil filter has a grip I'm usually able to remove it by hand.

    If you use just a lil bit under 3 qrts like 2.8 or 2.9 it will be on full. Oems wanna save money so they just put enough oil in when new to make vehicle operable
    ..My mustang gt was same way . another tip ..it may not be the most comfortable but with a small drain pan you can actually get under car with no jacking at all .

    • @goten259
      @goten259  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah it doesn't take much oil at all to fill this car up and makes sense. Yeah I could see that working it's just a pain for me with that bumper lip and the tiny cut out for the oil filter.

    So glad to see it takes 5w-20.....any engine that requires 0-XX is a cheesy motor in my opinion.

    • @goten259
      @goten259  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I'm glad it has a bit of leeway as far as oil weight is concerned. I've heard people say that 0w oil is used to maximize MPG and I've heard its due to clearances being very tight in the engine. In the euro version of the manual I've seen different weight oil used based on the outside temperature.

    • @elihernandez330
      @elihernandez330 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm interested, how would an engine requiring a 0w oil be worse in your opinion. also it has been noted that mobil 1 EP 0w-20 is better than the 5w-20 not because of cold flow at all but rather the base stock of the oil itself having more true synthetic PAO in its composition so the oil is of a higher quality just from the stoutness of the blended base stock. same thing with Castrol edge 0w-40 v. 5w-40. the 0w-40's base oil is more stout and better quality and can actually resist shearing better so that's what i run in my truck. manufacturers know that a 0w counterpart is typically better not so much in cold flow but base stock quality. that's why most recommend it. ford sells their 5w-20 so that's why they recommend that but their 5w-20 syn blend blows.
