Jordan wasn't perfect and had bad games like the next person BUT the fear and demoralization of a players spirit was on full display. • @AnHebrewChild
      @AnHebrewChild 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah, dude became bigger than the sport."No one player is bigger than any sport", people will say. That's true in one sense, but what I mean is, at the height of his celebrity, there were more "Jordan fans" than "NBA fans." TV playoff / finals viewership bears this out (7 million viewers this year vs 40+ million in 1998: a time with a smaller population and fewer televisions) , as do sneaker sales, video sales, etc: dude sells more shoes than all current NBA players... _combined._ More MJ highlight videos (come fly with me, playground, air time...) have been sold than all other players' videos... in league history... _combined._ The Last Dance (docu about a team from almost a quarter century ago) drew more viewers than the 2020 Finals. Stop and think about that.
      More than a few current all star running backs & receivers wear cleated Air Jordan's... lots of MLB catchers & batters' gear has the jumpman logo. "Bro, that's just Nike marketing." Well, it is marketing, yes.. but Nike _is able_ to market MJ in that fashion, across sports & demographics & eras, BECAUSE his celebrity grew beyond his sport. Which is the point.
      In the spring of 94 lines outside some minor-league ball parks were longer (to watch a guy bat .201) than outside NBA stadiums. In the mid 90s, Fortune named him the most recognizable person (not just sports star... person) on the planet. Hell, his shadow (silhouette) was and still is recognizable. We all grew up with this, and have kind of grown accustom to it... but it's really quite strange.
      MJ sort of broke basketball. David Stern all but directly admitted this in 2000.
      Anyway... didn't set out to type all that ha... but I find the phenomenon incredibly fascinating.

    Jordan not only had great hands, footwork, and hangtime, etc., but one thing some people don't quite understand was his ability to read the defense and defenders hand/arm movements. Keep in mind that most of these highlights are shown in slow-motion, especially all his reverse layups and double pumps... Look at how Jordan moves his shooting hand in mid-air to avoid getting blocked; then realize that he did that in real-time, not slow-motion, and in mid-air where he had milliseconds to react. If ALL of his highlights were shown in real speed first then in slow-motion, I think more people would truly appreciate how quick Jordan really was.
