    Thank you for a thorough & multi-faceted look at the Bejing Declaration. The major point in my mind is that it is meant to take effect AFTER the permanent cease-fire. This gives an immediate stand of unity to rebuild & reconcile for the future progress of all. It gives a base point for talks at that time, a cohesive center from which to look, rather than an exhausted war-torn discombobulated uncertainty. This is valuable to Palestinian unity going forward.

    Why is it deemed important that China not be mediating among Palestines out of national self-interest? Why can't China act on behalf of their own interests?
    Every nation acts out of self-interest. American officials frequently say "we" are looking out for U.S. interests (like when we bomb someone, etc.).
    I think it's fine for China to mediate among Palestinian factions for self-interest. I think China's self-interest is, at this point, aligned with the entire world's self-interest.

      You mean unilateral sanctions? Because that is illegal under international law and goes against human rights laws. The ICJ bases their ruling on international law, so you can't have it both ways, that would be hypocritical - just like the US does with their 'rules based order'.
      Btw sanctions never work, it just redirects goods through a middleman and hurts the most weak and vunerable - that's why they're illegal. It's performative and symbolic, China has no interest in empty actions, it does real work that has serious consequence. If you think this is just window dressing then you haven't been paying attention to what China is actually doing for the long term.

    • @nbeizaie
      @nbeizaie 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@WalkingSideways Sanction is different. Sanction forces OTHER COUNTRIES to also not trade with the target country. Boycott is different and yes, any country/any party can choose who they trade with or not. Nothing against any law.
      Remember what was done to South Africa's apartheid? The same should be done. Don't forget that ICJ ruled that no country should be aiding the occupation and apartheid and trades IS helping occupation and apartheid. So yes, they can stop trading with Israel.

    I hope the Beijing Declaration also included military aid, in addition to economic, to the unified govt of Palestine. For defensive-only purposes, among the most needed by Palestine is a better version of the 'Iron Dome'. If China is unwilling or can't provide then turn to Russia which has a tried and tested air-defence system.
    As for the Philippines, China should send high-level officials to the south, Mindanao, to conduct trade and related matters. FYI that region, Muslim-dominated, wants independence from Manila. Its former president, Rodrigo Duterte, is from there and he is back there now. He is at loggerheads with the corrupt Marcos Jnr. The situation is ripe for China to meddle in its affairs since they are meddling in Taiwan.

    If we are to look at the past few decades of the US history, there is hardly any gap between the many wars. Wars gave the US relevance to the world, broadcasting to the world that it has a powerful military that can crush any dissent. But reality didn't back up the hypes, and it have yet to win any of the wars to date !
    Now one would ask: "What would the US be like without conflicts?" Well, what would a bully do when he ceases to pick on someone? The US uses its military to rather good effect, not winning wars. but to promise protection in exchange for influence. NATO is a perfect example.
    Now NATO is hardly a blessing for Ukraine because it is not prepared to confront Russia, and Ukraine is now a broken country. The US is never one to learn from its lessons...it wants to start an Asian NATO with Japan and S Korea to lead. That would be like waving a red rag in front of an angry bull because Japan had committed heinous war crimes against Chinese people in Nanjing. But Korea was also a victim of a genocidal Japan. Strange world.

    As a socialist gen z American you guys do well as informative independent me'dia and journ'alists including poli'tical commen'tators like hasan and such are the only few things i trust im never going back to cor'porate m'edia again been months sense ive closed myself off even if i still look at american artic'les here and their about whats happening here i trust a little more but not much at all with whats happening with outside this country.
    Yes china is autho'ritarian and such those are few things that are true but much of it is over exagg'erated or misinfor'mation. Ive seen vids of china and what its like and blows my mind every time how clean, advanced, and the social infrastructure that china has is just amazing including the public transportation is just amazing. Is it perfect? No but it shows that even a social'ist country can rival capitalist countries once they play their cards right china is planning the game of cat and mouse of neutrality carefully and well.

      Our perspective on Chinese author’tarianism is skewed. A country Has to have a state strong enough to resist financial sector and private interests from taking over the wheel of govt, as a socialist it’s critical to understand this. the US is a terrifying example of what happens when the state is too weak to resist
