Hi Steve. Greetings ! Quite and adventure. Magic scenery and great adventure riding. It really is magnificent country when you stop to admire it. Thanks for taking us along.
Wife and I had Just watched this video as it came out last Year, and we had conveniently just hit the road on the way to Uluru and Alice springs. Steve you have been a massive inspiration to us. Picked up some Adventure bikes and are keen to see the outback of Aus in person :)
This has brought back fond memories for me . I did pretty much this ride starting from Kalgoorlie meandering me way all over and eventually up to Darwin and of course back again visiting other areas and back roads on the way back to Kalgoorlie. This was done on my Harley and towing a trailer way back in 1990 when the Gulf war was going on and petrol prices went through the roof. I remember paying $2.30 a liter at the Alice and nearly choked on it . Some of the roads were that bad I had to remove the trailer and skull drag it and the bike through bull dust and loose sand in some cases a couple of hundred meters at a time. The corrugations had to be seen and experienced to believe how truly destructive they can be. And by contrast sometimes ride and tow at over 100 km/h But this was the best adventure I have ever had by far and would love to do it again but now too old to try repeat it. My only regret was doing this ride by myself and not with other like minded mates. About three years ago I did the central road from Kalgoorlie to Darwin in less than 48 hours pretty much non stop apart from filling the fuel from a 44 gallon drum in the van just to pick up a motorcycle and trailer I had bought on eBay. That was a fantastic experience and great drive too but most of the road at least when I went on it was pretty darn good and certainly better than some of our highways.
I climbed Ayers Rock in 1978 before all the development in that area; just a campground and a couple of pubs out there then. Took a flight over the rock and out to the Olga's as well. Very impressive scenery. I was out there to meet a group from the WA BMW club who had ridden the Gunbarrel Hwy. on two R90S' w/- sidecars and a solo R100/7. We then all travelled into the Alice for the Centre Rally.
The BMWMCCWA is full of old's n bold's. Could have been Goldie who was on that trip but there are some of the older blokes that have moved on. It is very civilised around Uluru and the Olgas now.
@@mongreldogproductions. Bear and Harry Threlfall on one, Pat Henderson and mate in the other, and Dutch bloke Gerd on the 100/7. Gerd only had a single seat on his bike and won the heart of a German Backpacker, so we swapped bikes. I had an R100S. Sadly, my bike got reversed over by a tourist bus (with Gerd valiantly trying to back pedal out of the way) at the entrance to the Old Telegraph Station. Good times.

Wish I had taken the plunge 40 yrs ago and emigrated, would've loved to drive those triples across the land and done the adventure bit on a bike, Think I ciould've made a good whinging Pom, as I turning out to be a grumpy old git here. Saying that we have a lot to be grumpy at over here. Ramblers getting tracks closed, MP's partying during lockdown, VOSA being buggers. fuel £8.50 a gallon, beer £4.50 a pint.
hahaha...'good' and 'whinging pom' should never be used in the same sentence. Our biggest problem is that more and more Outback roads are slowly (very slowly) being sealed but it is a long process. There is still a lot of Oz to be explored on an Adventure bike.
Those small outback communities are really interesting without your footage few people would see eg sorry time!
G’day Steve not into bikes, but love your videos.
