Is this the World’s best remote area touring bike? Some would say so.
Join these three Adventure Riders as they go to the heart of the Australian Outback and venture in some of the most remote and inhospitable country that the land down under has to offer.
In this vid, the Three Wise Men start heading for home, a distance of over 2,000km away. The rain continues making conditions a little tricky for the next 48 hours. After that, conditions improve and everything is going swimmingly until…

Once again a great series Steve, well done. In the early 1970's a group of us travelled the Gunbarrel Hwy trialling motorcycles for use in the SASR. We came across a mob of camels which wouldn't get out of the wheel tracks (which is all the Gunbarrel was then) and we followed them for almost 9 kilometres whilst they did as you described, snorted, sprayed snot and foamed at the mouth, before we felt that if we didn't either force them off the track or just stop chasing them they would run themselves to death. The irony of that was that here we were out in the middle of absolutely nowhere, millions of open acres/hectares all around, and these stupid animals would not move off the tracks. Eventually we got up beside them and forced them out into the spinifex. We must have really depleted their long range water tanks for them.

I agree with you regarding the GS, Steve. Although I ride an Airhead GS now, my previous bike was an 1100GS, so pretty much the same engine/suspension setup as yours, albeit more primitive. What a fantastic bike that was, 182,000km and still going strong when a sudden front tire deflation at speed from the then new tubeless Mitas E07 put me down the road big time and the bike at the auction. People scoff at the big BM chookies, but in the right hands they are great.

I agree. I had a 2004 GS1200 and it was a remarkably capable machine for such big bike. Even did some pretty gnarly hill climbs on it; crapping all the way up mind you. I regret selling it so I could afford to do some Vintage Scrambles on old BSA's and Hondas. Now that I'm too "broken" for racing I've got the urge for another GS1200 in part thanks to Steve!

I see you are using the vango banshee 200. Ive used that on a lot of moto camping trips.. great piece of kit! Great Vid.

Hi DS, glad you like the vid..I do spend a bit of time in that tent. This is the third Banshee 200 that i've worn out. I like the layout. Economical tent when its time to replace it. I know some guys who spend $800AUD on a tent and they STILL leak. Go figure. 😀
