  • Join Tom (DR650) and Steve (BMW R1200GSA) as they travel from the SW of Australia to the very most Northern point of the Australian Mainland at the Tip of Cape York in Far North Queensland all in the search for milk.
In this Vid, Bert and Ernie have left Alice Springs and end up on the Bogey Man of tracks…the Ernst Giles Road. After surviving that they resupply at Yulara only to find a stranded Adv Rider trying to hitch a ride to Docker River. They finally reach Great Central Road and with the sun to their backs, they continue heading West. Tragedy strikes 80 km East of Tjukarilya Roadhouse.
    Grab ya gear; lets go!

During 1967 as a 16 year old electrical apprentice one of my first bush jobs together with a tradie was to install a Lister Dunlite generator as Docker River power supply. Over the following years we built bores, water tanks and supply reticulation and a new power station with transmission lines. On your journey to Docker you would've past Lasseter's Cave. I've just subscribed to your presentations and I've thoroughly enjoyed this video. The roads you travelled on I knew them well since I lived in the Alice for 33 years and worked in the bush for 18 years service indigenous communities including the Giles power station. I recall the artwork by Len Beadell on the wall in the kitchen in the weather station.

I remember the GCR to be quite gruelling with vast stretches, arrow straight to the horizon with little elevation change. The change in surface color hint at traction or not, gravel, sand, bulldust etc. Endless.
Lost my brother’s (640 Adv) clutch main bearing at Warburton, limped it on into Tjukayirla RH. Following day I rode non stop to Kalgoorlie to arrange repairs at Ray Moore’ M/Cs. A big day.
Sad to see the fatal. A terrible event for all concerned. People need to respect where they are and minimise risk… Consequences can be harsh and unfortunately terminal in some cases. RIP.

Horrific accident though :( Your channel is going to help me stay sane during the winter months here, when most of what I can do is plot the next trips and stick to lower elevations to dodge the snow. Here in Portland OR it's basically going to rain semi-continuously until sometime in April/May, and stay close to freezing. And that's just the low altitude stuff. Higher up is more dicey. Good job on helping the stranded guys connect with the kindness of strangers .. perhaps they are not fluent in that?

So far in this series we have seen other ADV bikes with a badly bent rim and two shredded inner tubes. I'm guessing they were not running the tyre pressures recommended in the handbook because people have told them to lower the tyre pressures when off the bitumen..

Much better than what the Olgas to WA Border road was like back then. Another great video thanks. Was that truck involved in the accident or just held up while the two vehicles were removed.
