This movie ALWAYS sounded great since the DVD days, it was the first ever DVD release period. I used to love showing off my surround system with this film. The sound sells this one big time. It looks great and I don’t mind the green tint if that’s what Jan DeBont intended for this release. This is the best 4K release this year.
I received my copy on Saturday and saw it. The colors are deeper and the Dolby Atmos is awesome. So glad i got this. But i will keep my 2 disc d.v.d release as it has ALL of the bonus features. A+ to this Super High Definition release.
The audio was fun, especially the constant rumbling bass. I wish it was a more dynamic mix though, with more panning, discrete audio, & object movement. There were definitely missed opportunities for panning effects, or perhaps they were just overshadowed by all the bass. The intro scene and post-destruction return to Jo's Aunt's house were exceptions and absolutely incredibly well done though.
Fun Fact: There is a German Bluray release with Auro-3D sound. Supposedly a Dolby Atmos competitor. As far as I know, only 3 movies where released on bluray with Auro-3D: Twister, Daylight & Dragonheart.
@@P-LOWN1997 Really? I shall research Auro-3D more closely when I have the time. I guess Atmos won the race. But it's cool to know Dolby had a competitor once upon a time.
@@djscorpion1 yes but sadly because of some copyright right issues most of them are only available in belgium. If you want to see what titles are available look on the auro 3d website you ll see all of them.
As usual, release day, and nowhere to be found...really miss being able to walk in Best Buy and just get what I want. No BS. I want to see it today, on my day off...not looking promising
Preordered my steel in April. Amazon sent me an email this morning, the day of its release, saying there are “supply chain issues” Amazon sucks. They always screw the pooch on the big titles.
Same, they made me approve my pre order this morning/verify my address which makes no sense as I order all the time and have two other orders arriving today.
Looks like Amazon botched the preorders for this and The Boy and the Heron. Preordered both on day 1 and now both are delayed. Waiting on the order to be cancelled, probably won’t be preordering there again.
I was curious to see if the new Twister 4k transfer was good and glad to see it is. I saw that even the film grain was preserved. As using DNR to remove it will oftentimes remove fine details present in the film grain. As I’m planning to get Twister, Dune Part 1 and 2, and the first 4 Star Trek films on 4k Blu-ray. I use a Panasonic DP-UB420, because at the time the DP-UB450 wasn’t available in the States yet. As I’m not paying $400 for access to Dolby Vision on the DP-UB820.
As always, Adam, thank you for an informative video I definitely agree with your ratings especially the Dolby Atmos A+ most deserving. It definitely gave my system a work out. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🙏
since twister came out today on 4k i went to 2 differant walmarts and they didnt even put any out. i asked and they both said twister is online but they dont know why there werent any on the floor. im going to a differant walmart tomorrow. hopefully i can pick up twister tomorrow
At 4:34 I can see you have the Transformers movies on 4K just like me too but I don’t have slipcovers for the 1,2 or the 3 one either but I do have the 4&5 with the slipcovers though and I haven’t seen the newest one yet
Here's a question I've meant to ask for a while...if I place an affiliate link into my Amazon wishlist, does the affiliation carry through at the time later that I make the purchase? Thanks!!
Is your TV calibrated? I’m sure it is, but the greens aren’t as saturated on my TV. It looks a lot more natural. With tints of green throughout the skyline rather then the whole skyline.
It’s professionally calibrated, sometimes the screenshots accentuate certain shades more by the time it goes through the editing process and to TH-cam.
@@MovieGuy365 Have they been decent with shipping on time and minimal damage during shipping? I’ll never expect perfection, just wondering if I should pay for the Walmart+ annual membership for $50 (it’s half off through 7/18), to get no minimum for free shipping.
@@michaels3003 No, it really wasn't... I'm genuinely asking because while the picture quality on the DVD never looked great, the DTS track was always considered reference (I don't remember it sounding as great as I remembered the last time I watched Warner's "special edition" DTS disc).
@@blackphilipalvarez1305 But I'm NOT trolling - I own the DTS DVD in the snapper case, and when I watched it a couple of months ago, the DTS mix didn't impress me like it used to. Could be the fact that I've been spoiled with lossless tracks since Blu-ray.

Already watched this, and while I think the video is a nice improvement over the Blu-ray, I really don't understand all of the hype for the audio. It's almost as if some either forgot, or never had the Blu-ray and are equating "Atmos" with "it must be better!". The 5.1 mix was already impressive at the time, and the Atmos mix doesn't really add much too it. There are a select few standout scenes (namely the storms) and they aren't that much more impressive than the 5.1 mix. On top of that, the dialogue is rather weak in this mix. It sounds extremely thin compared to everything else. The UHD is absolutely an upgrade, but not for the audio...unless you only had it on VHS. If you want to be impressed by some truly astounding audio, watch Civil War. That has what is likely the best mix of the year.
Idk… I heard that Atmos wasn’t amazing. Everybody raved about the auro3d mix, not like any of us have the hardware for that anyway. I’ve only heard this is an all time top ten Atmos track
