As someone who lives in tornado alley, the sky does go green but it’s a dark menacing green. The shades on the slipcover look more accurate than the scene you mentioned. I really enjoyed the movie though, the new sound mix really immerses you in the storms.
1996 was an absolutely insane year for action movies!
Hell yeah it was!
It’s weird but one of my favorite parts is when they stop off at Meg’s house to eat and just having a great time like family! It just feels good!! ❤️
I became a cinephile thanks to this movie, I don't know how many times I skipped high school to secretly go to the movies to see it, I was obsessed. 😅
Now we need perfect storm !
YESSSSSSSSSS!
Absolutely agree! I still have my Warner bros survival collection dvd set with twister, the perfect storm, Poseidon and outbreak on it. Wouldn’t mind getting them all on 4K
Perfect Storm is coming

I whole heartedly believe that if you didn't grow up in the 90's you won't appreciate this films as much.... God this brings back such great memories. Kind of makes me emotional because I remember renting this with my dad all the time and we had so much fun with it!
They filmed scenes around where I lived in Iowa. The cast would come into my store. Cary Elwes stopped in dressed in the outfit he wore in the movie. We saw cast and crew members come in almost every day So many memories.
No photos, autograph?
@@chestyvulva do we really need social media to tell us that , but I do agree on one thing, that there was no social media.
The sound is amazing on this 4K!!! Watched it just a few minutes ago....got my steelbook early from GRUV!!
If the sky is green, then the sky should be green, great review, I cannot wait to hear and see the improvements 👍
You are exactly like I was. I wanted to be a Storm chaser after seeing this movie and I live in Kentucky. Twister has my record of most times seeing a movie in the theater at 8 times. I love everything about this movie, it holds a special place in my heart that I'll never forget.
Yeah! Thank You Gruv for getting me my copy early. I watched and enjoyed. To brag a little but more to the point of saying I have a capable system. Mine is 7.3.4 setup. The 11 speakers are all 3-way design with the 4 ceiling speakers being bookshelfs hanging from the ceiling. The 3 subwoofers are dual 15" for a total of 6 15" drivers. I am in the basement on concrete and no seat transducers. This soundmix can get your seats moving good. Atmos speaker engagement is constant from the swirl of wind in the storms to the subtle of distant thunder and Meg's windchimes. I was a teenager working at the theater when this came out. The theater had the top of the line (at the time) SDDS. This was the best I have ever heard this movie.
did you not mention how the video is so damn dark?
I have a 5.1.4 system, with a quad wya center as my channel speakers. I have my heights hanging on the side. When we do move, i plan to replace htem with offical in-ceiling speakers :)
Just wish the video wasnt so damn dark in alot of places.
@@drewscentral5587 Ken may have but I didn't I didn't think it was dark but then again I watched on an OLED in a dark room.
@@drewscentral5587 In -Ceiling are nice for aesthetics but most are the best solution for Atmos. Having bookshelfs high hanging from the ceiling is best for sound quality as you can aim the directivity of the speaker sound to the main listening area instead of the floor in front and behind you. That option just does not look as good.
@@jjchmiel78 my TV is an oled 65 inch oled. it was so dark, i had a har time seeing bill and helen an what not.
I would think the green is not so much a "change" but just the modern ability to use technology to meet the artist's true vision for the film.
It’s one of the best 4K transfers of late. The green issue has been way over exaggerated, it’s basically two shots De Bont said he couldn’t accomplish when the film was released. Any 4K transfer de Bont works on, Speed, Flatliners, The Haunting, they’re incredible.
That scene where everything turns lime green was something else haha
Fantastic review, Ken. Your love of the film comes across loud and clear. Can’t wait to see it myself now!
Dude...this movie also gave me the desire to be a stormchaser. Saw this movie in the theater opening day, and it changed my life. Grew up in southern Indiana, and can completely relate to your story. This film absolutely cured me of my fears as well, and I would drive around our town with my friends watching for severe storms when I was a teen. Those were the good ol' days!
Same for my nephew! Do you know Max Olson?
Ken talking about the sky sounds like Chris Tuckers Ruby Rod from Fifth Element. “It’s Green mkay. Green! Super Green!” 😂
😆 I'm leaving!
_Bzzzz!_
@@oubrioko What you screaming fo? Every five minutes it’s sumthin. A bomb or sumthin.”
Watching the new quick documentary with Jan De Bont and then going straight into this 4k with atmos blazing… 9 speakers, two subs, lets f’n go!!!!
Twister is also one of my all-time favorites, I watched it about the same number of times you did. It was this movie that got interested in meteorology, specifically tornadoes. Unfortunately, I never went professionally, but at least the knowledge will be there. Now, I'm just an independent video game developer working at an HVAC company.
It's cool to see your passion for Twister! It's my first memory of going to the movies! I love the film and it's great to hear that so much care was giving to this release.
Your review is what I've been waiting for. Keeping it real, unlike some of the obnoxious reviewer's out there. Great job!
I saw 'TWISTER' in May 1996 at THE LAST PICTURE SHOW Drive In Theater, one of the few still operating Drive In Theaters in the State of Texas. What made the film interesting, is that their were thunderstorms and tornado warnings in the area of Gatesville, TX at the time. It really added a scope and depth of reality to the film, unlike anything I have ever seen. If you ever get a chance to see 'TWISTER' or the new 'TWISTERS' movie in the future, go see it during inclement weather at a Drive In for the ultimate experience.
Saw Twister on opening day when released at theaters. The most memorable thing about the film is the sound mix. Especially during the drive-in scene.
Got mine today! Can't wait to check it out tonight!
that green sky is what they teach us to look out for with Tornadoes coming BUT more the green of the slip cover, not the kinda bright lime green lol
My copy is coming in the mail tomorrow and I cannot wait to try it on my 77 inch Sony OLED television with my 5.1.2 Dolby Atmos surround sound setup all new KEF speakers....true atmos here lol no soundbar, no false metal.....
I love the vivid green change. Having watched so many storm systems with tornadoes throughout the Missouri/Illinois region, it truly captures what people really see. I’ll never forget the first tornado I ever saw form right before my eyes! Incredible! May 1995 was a crazy tornado month in that area. This one destroyed a bunch of structures in Cantrall & Sherman, Illinois.
I’ve seen some incredibly green skies. It’s so disturbing.
Can’t believe it finally happened 🎉
Your review convinced me to upgrade from my blu ray copy. I cannot wait to hear what this movie sounds like.
That full dolby atmos setup is very immersive!!!! It really adds to the movie experience!!! I really believe it's 50% at least of the movie experience!!! That should be your next project! Not every movie has a great atmos transfer but this one sounds amazing in that format!! The Samsung 11.1.4 flagship soundbar has great reviews and it's gotta $440 discount right now if you're a total tech member at best buy!!! I prefer the full set up over this but I hear great things about this soundbar!!!
THe movie is great in 5.1.4 setup, I also own an oled 65 inch. .just the video is really dark in alot of places.
Well it seems to be ok now. Scenes where it was dark as hell now coming in crystal clear. Weird.
@@gabrielpanola this is the movie that is making me develop a new script for a 30 min short film, with a music video I’m going to also direct. Love this film to death !
@@drewscentral5587 I think what it is, is that this movie does not have DV playback capabilities, if you turn the option of your player off it looks a little brighter
Unfortunately a soundbar could never do a movie the full Justice as a real setup like I have all hard-wired speakers up on the wall up on the ceiling it's amazing so sound bars are okay if that's your only choice but nothing's going to be a real true surround sound Dolby Atmos set up like I have
Yea that does go pretty green there. Looks like some kind of filter or something. That green is kinda deep.
Nothing wrong with going green.👍
Its the way it should be , Green is Nice 😀
The Extreme! It's the Extreme! Ha-ha-ha! A manly handshake ensues!
Wow, even the front slip cover has a green tint, so does the menu screen...
Going green lol
Fun hearing you talk about this one. Can definitely tell you're a fan and hear the excitement. It is such a great film. Excited to watch the new one in the theatre.
Ever since I've gone to HD in my movie collecting the Twister bluray has always looked extreme dull in its presentation. I'm from Kansas and I've experienced many close calls with Tornados and know the clouds going green is a very real thing. I think it's safe to say Twister has never been presented properly on home video. With the storm footage there's many scenes that have been lighter but should be darker. It sounds like the storm footage will be much more like real life.
Toto, I have a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore.
I loved this movie from the very beginning just like you and even though i did not own it on VHS did have copies of it on laserdisc, dvd and blu-ray. Now after seeing your review Ken i am VERY excited to watch this !!
Looks like im gonna be ordering my copy! I haven't seen this since i was a child. Also remember loving it though
Already reserved a copy of the movie from Amazon can't wait
Passionate honest movie review from the heart, well done 👍
I remember being in a storm in 2017, it was extremely green and the horizon was pitch black. It was the darkest I've seen the sky.
Great review buddy. Fortunate to catch in the theater and looking forward to this 4K
That green scene always did stick out when i watched it on all formats including the movie theater. Although it wasn't super green it did have a sort of deep color grading essence to it which was cool. It always caught my attention.
This is easily the best 4K of the year, the sound quality was amazing!
My Steelbook just showed up. Can’t wait to give it a watch!
Good to hear on this transfer. I can't figure-out why they couldn't get that green sky right. I will have to pick this up sometime.
Twister came out towards the end of my high school senior year, and absolutely loved it. In 1999 when I got my first DVD player it was one of the first DVDs I bought along with it. About 2 years later I finally invested in an RCA 5.1 surround sound home theater receiver because I wanted to watch it in surround sound. I’m not sure how I feel about the “green” thing either. Oh, and I was lucky enough to have experienced “Twister: The… Ride It Out at Universal Studios Florida before they closed it.
The sound of the tornadoes as i watched this as a kid used to scare the shit outta me
My fav movie of all time. Absolutely thrilled after watching your vid and I can relate to your excitement and dedication this film
I do have it on Order from Gruv. It’s supposed to be delivered today but still no show on the doorstep. This 4K will be a first time watch because I’ve never seen Twister
My high end Polk setup is gonna love this.
I picked up the steelbook edition and got it on Friday, I also have the VHS, DVD and Blu-ray version lol saw it back 2 back in the theaters. Great review.
I vaguely remember the movie. I saw it once in the theater and a few times on cable/VHS back in the day. Haven't seen this in decades.
But, from your review alone, I went from indifferent to completely geeked out - - esp, regarding the sound. This is on my list now.
Can't wait. I don't think mine arrives until Oct. (import), but I can wait. One of my favorites as well.
Great review Ken, awaiting on the 9th for my copy to ship!!! Curious to see how Twisters is going to be!!
Love Jami Gertz
I saw this movie in the theater in 1996, and had the VHS, but havn't had that VHS for a long time, so I'm looking forward to owning this movie again!
Do u still have a have a VCR?
@@michael-4k4000 I think its still in a box in my basement. I threw out all my VHS tapes about 9 years ago when we moved. I wish I hadn't done that.
PQ is excellent indeed and I agree 100% with you. As for the audio, I have a full Atmos 5.2.2 setup and this is one of the best ever Atmos mixes I have heard in my life. It even beats many of recent movies' Atmos mixes by far!
Kentucky kid here also...I've seen my share of tornados. Enough to take them very seriously..lol
Great movie, I'm really looking forward to the 4K version, mine should be here Tuesday. I don't have Atmos speakers yet but as of yesterday I have all twelve 18" Ultimax drivers playing. I need to re-equalize the whole system however now that those last four woofers are online.
This is a favorite movie among storm chasers. It gets quoted a lot!
The review i’ve been waiting for! A movie i’ve heard of! 😜
I have a Sony oled and the green looks more natural looking then how your tv shows it.
Love the new color grading, fantastic 4K remastering. Maybe that scene didn't have to be that green, but I have no problem with it. Lucky for us, Park Road Post didn't get theirs hands on this one.
I've pre-ordered Twister on 4k & Civil War on 4k Steelbook and they both arrive at my doorstep on Tuesday 👊👊📽
I really want to get this. Twister is a great 4k choice. One of my favorite movies too. Nice, I love Speed also.
Nice, nice, and nice! Think I'll buy the US release using your link as I like the foil sleeve and thinner case...
Great review ken and yeah i think they over did it with that scene with the green sky 😂
Great review! Your passion for the movie is obvious. Glad to know the new release is so good. I am already disappointed about the "green" scene.
Just watched my Laserdisc copy the other day. Still some of the best sound on the format. Can't wait to compare.
Thanks for the review. Now, i know what to consider when I get a chance to buy "Twister" on 4k later with "Twisters"(2024).
Can wait for the new twister film 🎥........ hope they redo Twister like a hundred times.
It goes green because that is what happens in real life. I live in tornado alley... unfortunately I have seen and ran from a few. The sky does get green. The coloring in the film is accurate.
I just received my copy today and saw it. YEAH, it definately is a whole diffrent viewing and looks so much better. The Dolby Atmos sound is fantastic. I'm keeping my 2 disc d.v.d release so as to have ALL of the bonus features.
12:53 I can honestly understand that choice because we don't often notice how often the color changes after a storm hits or about to hit. For example I've been living in West Texas for five years now, everytime after it rains really bad, everything looks like piss yellow (but then again there's a whole bunch of dust where I live).
Edit: 13:34 Oh yeah. Between my time living in North Texas (which is where I lived until I went to college. Actually from a town that's directly north of Fort Worth which is where Bill Paxton was from.) and my time living out in West Texas, I've come to learn to trust my instincts when there's something not right. While at the same time appreciate the beauty of nature.
The 1st memory I have of this move is that I was in the cinema watching another movie and Twister was playing in the adjacent cinema hall and I felt and heard the base each time a hurricane appeared in the movie.
I’m glad you like it overall. I was kinda worried when we talked on Instagram that you overall may not like it. Mines on the way.
What's your favorite Helen Hunt movie?
@@michael-4k4000 not sure. I liked her in pay it forward I believe it was
@@williamdriver1959 that’s right she was the mother, good movie. She hasn’t been in much lately
@@michael-4k4000 no I haven’t seen her in anything in a long time. I need to think about what my favorite bill paxton movie is.
@@williamdriver1959 Apollo 13
Good times! I also have the VHS with The Blockbuster sticker on it.
Couldn’t agree with you more Ken, love this movie. Got my Gruv steel book copy in and just got down watching it. Looks and sounds amazing. Favorite scene is when Rabbit says “going to take a walk in the woods” and that Van Halen song kicks in…. Chills every time
Get that surround sound setup!!! Great sound is nearly half of the enjoyment.
I give a lot of credit for bill paxtons range. Once he was introduced in advanced warfare: exo zombies I went back and rewatched his movie catalog
Give me the blu ray over 4k anyday, just looks better over all
I remember The Shining scene.
It’s like they decided to bring the old silent film tints back with that sky…
Damn Ken, we can definitely feel how much you love this film...Mine came too and I'm about to throw this bad Mother on. I love to hate Cary Elwes in this flick. Cheers!
Thank God its got a slipcover because I know that was keeping you awake at night! 🤣
Good to see it has a slipcover, I've got a feeling I'll end up getting this anyway even with the green issue (at least its just one acene). On a side note, we share the same birthday. Just thought that was cool.
Twister. The first feature film released on DVD ❤❤❤
I have a copy of it 1080p remux 35gb and a 55gb remux 4k I have to try it on my 55 inch lg cx set
Wholly GREEN Batman!
ATMOS is SICK!!! 😆🤘
I was also a huge fan of this film when it came out. I was 16 and watched it several times in the theater. I’m from CA so the notion of tornados felt foreign to me, so this film got me really interested in learning about them. Apart from that, I’m excited to watch the film in 4k but I have to wait a little longer before I can pick it up. Most of my experience with the film (aside from the theatrical release) was the original dvd so I’m really curious how I’ll feel watching this disc when I get my hands on it.
Please stop calling everything that hits 4K a restoration. A remaster is not necessarily a restoration.
There's a blue tint in Aliens Special Edition and it makes the film !! it looks made yesterday Epic, I wish they did the same to Alien 3 and Resurrection, so in love I bought the Stream and 4k disc..
“Goin green”
“Greenage”
That is the Incredible Hulk's aura. He was in the area, and storms make him angry.
Good Lord, he talked for over 7 minutes before actually talking about the 4k version 😳
I have Twister on laser disc , I still have the player also I thought at the time it was the best picture 😊
Thanks gruv for this twister 4k early it good movie and sound is amazing Kenny I have German Blu-ray of twister it a two disc one has 3D audio n other Dolby atmos it was amazing too Ken u should pick that up better than original Blu-ray and glad have both .
Hey, we have the same birthday!
Great reviews and insight 👍 is this region free as I'm in the UK?
I'd love to see this transfer on an IMAX screen.
Ken, do you follow Reed Timmer at all? His irl tornado chasing videos are on another level. I wasn't gonna get this release as I kind of thought it was a cheesy movie but your love of this film has made me reconsider. thanks bro!
Got my steelbook yesterday and looked great and sounded better
Did your digital code for your steelbook redeem in HD instead of UHD? Mine did!
@@pgxrpf it did but it should switch to uhd on the 9th when it officially comes out, I've had it happen before on another movie.
@@pat727321 good to know. Thank you!
There’s something about this movie. Basically the first modern disaster movie of its kind and I think it feels more real because of that. Something about the first movie to do something. And a lot of practical effects also helps the movie. So many other great elements too. Love it. This is the kind of movie I appreciate more through the decades.
I think it’s also because it keeps things so small scale. Some of the later Emmerich films got way too big and it took me out of it everytime. That’s why this and Dante’s Peak will always be the 2 best to me.
