Storm chaser here to explain the green. “Greenage” is a real thing, but it doesn’t mean Tornadoes are imminent. It is attributed to supercell storms but is caused by refractions of light in water drops and hail suspended in the mesocyclone (updraft). The greenage shown in the movie is not accurate whatsoever but is still pretty cool to see. The craziest green I have seen in a storm was actually one becoming outflow dominant (reducing tornado chance) and more of a hailer. Obviously as a chaser Twister is an easy top 10 and what got me into weather, just thought I would mention this to help people understand it a little bit better.
As someone who lives in tornado alley, the sky does go green but it’s a dark menacing green. The shades on the slipcover look more accurate than the scene you mentioned. I really enjoyed the movie though, the new sound mix really immerses you in the storms.
I whole heartedly believe that if you didn't grow up in the 90's you won't appreciate this films as much.... God this brings back such great memories. Kind of makes me emotional because I remember renting this with my dad all the time and we had so much fun with it!
They filmed scenes around where I lived in Iowa. The cast would come into my store. Cary Elwes stopped in dressed in the outfit he wore in the movie. We saw cast and crew members come in almost every day So many memories.
Any colour grading change is instantly better and less egregious of a revision than using AI. Good job on the restoration Jan de Bont! Putting Cameron to shame!
Yeah! Thank You Gruv for getting me my copy early. I watched and enjoyed. To brag a little but more to the point of saying I have a capable system. Mine is 7.3.4 setup. The 11 speakers are all 3-way design with the 4 ceiling speakers being bookshelfs hanging from the ceiling. The 3 subwoofers are dual 15" for a total of 6 15" drivers. I am in the basement on concrete and no seat transducers. This soundmix can get your seats moving good. Atmos speaker engagement is constant from the swirl of wind in the storms to the subtle of distant thunder and Meg's windchimes. I was a teenager working at the theater when this came out. The theater had the top of the line (at the time) SDDS. This was the best I have ever heard this movie.
I have a 5.1.4 system, with a quad wya center as my channel speakers. I have my heights hanging on the side. When we do move, i plan to replace htem with offical in-ceiling speakers :) Just wish the video wasnt so damn dark in alot of places.
@@drewscentral5587 In -Ceiling are nice for aesthetics but most are the best solution for Atmos. Having bookshelfs high hanging from the ceiling is best for sound quality as you can aim the directivity of the speaker sound to the main listening area instead of the floor in front and behind you. That option just does not look as good.
You are exactly like I was. I wanted to be a Storm chaser after seeing this movie and I live in Kentucky. Twister has my record of most times seeing a movie in the theater at 8 times. I love everything about this movie, it holds a special place in my heart that I'll never forget.
That green is much much closer to the real thing, it can be darker, or brighter depending on the day and the amount of moisture in the storm. thats aweosme!
It’s one of the best 4K transfers of late. The green issue has been way over exaggerated, it’s basically two shots De Bont said he couldn’t accomplish when the film was released. Any 4K transfer de Bont works on, Speed, Flatliners, The Haunting, they’re incredible.
I saw 'TWISTER' in May 1996 at THE LAST PICTURE SHOW Drive In Theater, one of the few still operating Drive In Theaters in the State of Texas. What made the film interesting, is that their were thunderstorms and tornado warnings in the area of Gatesville, TX at the time. It really added a scope and depth of reality to the film, unlike anything I have ever seen. If you ever get a chance to see 'TWISTER' or the new 'TWISTERS' movie in the future, go see it during inclement weather at a Drive In for the ultimate experience.
I love the vivid green change. Having watched so many storm systems with tornadoes throughout the Missouri/Illinois region, it truly captures what people really see. I’ll never forget the first tornado I ever saw form right before my eyes! Incredible! May 1995 was a crazy tornado month in that area. This one destroyed a bunch of structures in Cantrall & Sherman, Illinois.
Dude...this movie also gave me the desire to be a stormchaser. Saw this movie in the theater opening day, and it changed my life. Grew up in southern Indiana, and can completely relate to your story. This film absolutely cured me of my fears as well, and I would drive around our town with my friends watching for severe storms when I was a teen. Those were the good ol' days!
Thanks for the review! Now I know that I'll enjoy the 4k when I grab it. This is one of my all-time favorite films and like you, I wore out that VHS over the years. I loved it so much that I watched it several times in the theater as a young teen. The theatrical experience was so memorable; THIS is how movies should be made and how they should make you feel. De Bont nailed it with the cinematography, the kinetic camera movements, the great ensemble of fantastic actors, the score, the effects, the energy, just everything. Greenage!
That full dolby atmos setup is very immersive!!!! It really adds to the movie experience!!! I really believe it's 50% at least of the movie experience!!! That should be your next project! It's cool to see your passion for Twister! It's my first memory of going to the movies! I love the film and it's great to hear that so much care was giving to this release.
Ever since I've gone to HD in my movie collecting the Twister bluray has always looked extreme dull in its presentation. I'm from Kansas and I've experienced many close calls with Tornados and know the clouds going green is a very real thing. I think it's safe to say Twister has never been presented properly on home video. With the storm footage there's many scenes that have been lighter but should be darker. It sounds like the storm footage will be much more like real life.

Unfortunately, I never went professionally, but at least the knowledge will be there. Now, I'm just an independent video game developer working at an HVAC company.

12:53 I can honestly understand that choice because we don't often notice how often the color changes after a storm hits or about to hit. For example I've been living in West Texas for five years now, everytime after it rains really bad, everything looks like piss yellow (but then again there's a whole bunch of dust where I live). Edit: 13:34 Oh yeah. Between my time living in North Texas (which is where I lived until I went to college. Actually from a town that's directly north of Fort Worth which is where Bill Paxton was from.) and my time living out in West Texas, I've come to learn to trust my instincts when there's something not right. While at the same time appreciate the beauty of nature.
Twister came out towards the end of my high school senior year, and absolutely loved it. In 1999 when I got my first DVD player it was one of the first DVDs I bought along with it. About 2 years later I finally invested in an RCA 5.1 surround sound home theater receiver because I wanted to watch it in surround sound. I’m not sure how I feel about the “green” thing either. Oh, and I was lucky enough to have experienced “Twister: The… Ride It Out at Universal Studios Florida before they closed it.
I do have it on Order from Gruv. It’s supposed to be delivered today but still no show on the doorstep. This 4K will be a first time watch because I’ve never seen Twister
Awesome Review Bro👍❤, last week I watched Twister on Hbo GO and that scene was still really creepy on normal HD😱, not sure why they had to change and make it look so Green for the 4k Blu Ray as though Green Lantern is coming😂.
Tornado chaser here in Texas. Is it me or is the 4k disc a bit dark during the storms? I have an LG OLED too. I get the fact that there needs to be overcast, but it feels a bit too dark to the point that details in the shadows are lost.
Great movie, I'm really looking forward to the 4K version, mine should be here Tuesday. I don't have Atmos speakers yet but as of yesterday I have all twelve 18" Ultimax drivers playing. I need to re-equalize the whole system however now that those last four woofers are online. This is a favorite movie among storm chasers. It gets quoted a lot!
I live in southern Kansas and work in Oklahoma. In the original Twisters, when Bill says”it’s going green”, I always thought that it isn’t how it really looks when it goes green. The 4k version makes that scene make sense finally. The 4k makes the movie look like it looks in real life when the sky goes green. Such a minor thing to worry about, but it always took me out of the movie for whatever reason. Now it doesn’t.
I picked up the steelbook edition and got it on Friday, I also have the VHS, DVD and Blu-ray version lol saw it back 2 back in the theaters. Great review.
There are certain conditions under which thunderclouds can modify the yellow-orange light reflected from a Sun near the horizon, producing green. I think the color shift may be due to the ozone produced by lightning, which would normally reflect a blue color if it was illuminated by pure white light.
Got my 4k steelbook from gruv a couple days ago disc doesn’t even work gets to the main menu then black screen smh they better send a new disc not tryna lose out on this dope steelbook
There’s something about this movie. Basically the first modern disaster movie of its kind and I think it feels more real because of that. Something about the first movie to do something. And a lot of practical effects also helps the movie. So many other great elements too. Love it. This is the kind of movie I appreciate more through the decades.
I think it’s also because it keeps things so small scale. Some of the later Emmerich films got way too big and it took me out of it everytime. That’s why this and Dante’s Peak will always be the 2 best to me.
So I finally picked up my copy and I'm not a fan of the green. It's not the fact they made it greener, but what they made green (or even more green). I've seen several different variations of the happen, once so intense it was as if a green light emitting space ship hiding inside the cloud. I mention that because as bright as it was, it's not putting a green illumination on the environment like what's shown in the "Greenage" scenes. Only the sky, and localized around the supercell needed to be green
I was also a huge fan of this film when it came out. I was 16 and watched it several times in the theater. I’m from CA so the notion of tornados felt foreign to me, so this film got me really interested in learning about them. Apart from that, I’m excited to watch the film in 4k but I have to wait a little longer before I can pick it up. Most of my experience with the film (aside from the theatrical release) was the original dvd so I’m really curious how I’ll feel watching this disc when I get my hands on it.

Already reserved a copy of the movie from Amazon can't wait
The Extreme! It's the Extreme! Ha-ha-ha! A manly handshake ensues!
This is such a re-watchable movie! And I'm glad the 90's CGI holds up in 4K.
The flying cow is still ridiculous.
@@dan_hitchman007 Sure but a twister can lift a car. And then, ridculous or not, the cow scene might be able to happen in real life.
@@geminijinxies7258 It looked super fake. The worst effect in the movie and it pulls me right out of that scene.
@@dan_hitchman007 I agree it did look fake. The scene went mostly for a comedic effect though, so it not looking real didn't matter as much to me.
Great review buddy. Fortunate to catch in the theater and looking forward to this 4K
Great review! Your passion for the movie is obvious. Glad to know the new release is so good. I am already disappointed about the "green" scene.
Can't wait. I don't think mine arrives until Oct. (import), but I can wait. One of my favorites as well.
Looks like im gonna be ordering my copy! I haven't seen this since i was a child. Also remember loving it though
Get that surround sound setup!!! Great sound is nearly half of the enjoyment.
Great review Ken, awaiting on the 9th for my copy to ship!!! Curious to see how Twisters is going to be!!
Love Jami Gertz
I picked up the steelbook edition and got it on Friday, I also have the VHS, DVD and Blu-ray version lol saw it back 2 back in the theaters. Great review.
My Steelbook just showed up. Can’t wait to give it a watch!
Gonna check out Twisters tonight. Hopefully the new one is not too bad. 🤞
It’s very fun. Would never put it above the original, but a nice follow up all these years later.
An accurate green sky looks more murky and swamp-like.
Jan De Bont clearly has forgotten how tornadic weather looks.
I think Amazon oversold the steelbook. I was getting mine today and now it says we will email you with the estimated delivery date
I really want to get this. Twister is a great 4k choice. One of my favorite movies too. Nice, I love Speed also.
I give a lot of credit for bill paxtons range. Once he was introduced in advanced warfare: exo zombies I went back and rewatched his movie catalog
Jan De Bont also directed The Haunting from 1999 i remember the sound on standard dvd was impressive too.
Is this release any different from the UK 4K import I bought a couple years ago because it wasn’t available in the USA yet?!
Great reviews and insight 👍 is this region free as I'm in the UK?
That is the Incredible Hulk's aura. He was in the area, and storms make him angry.
Good Lord, he talked for over 7 minutes before actually talking about the 4k version 😳
Awesome. And does it have sneak pick of
the sequel. Twisters, On the special. features.
I have seen a storm that generated a couple of twisters. The sky does go green. Weird I know.
