Hey Twister Fans! We have finally uploaded our Twister Museum video. We see a screen used Jo's Jeep, screen used Dorothy I, meet a couple of the actors from the movie, and see all of the amazing things the museum has collected over the years. Check it out here: th-cam.com/video/5x1zgR5E6ZE/w-d-xo.html
On your way too or heading back from Maysville, ya should have made a stop at the University of Oklahoma. They have both Dorthy 1 and 2 on display, along with other "Twister" memorabilia. I still enjoyed the video.
I took a road trip to Wakita 5 years ago, just to see the village up close and personal. I found it fascinating that its real history is very unlike that depicted in the movie: Wakita has never been hit by a twister once in over 100 years. There is something about an ancient Native-American spell cast over the land, shielding it from tornado hits. I saw the museum there but did not go in; it was March, so it wasn't open for the season yet.

The actual tornado that hit the grain silos in the bridge scene occurred on the 14 year anniversary (May 10, 2010) of the release of the movie Twister. It was just one of 42 tornadoes to occur that day. Other tornadoes touched down near Wakita, OK.
Awesome info, Greg! Thank you for sharing! I had read about that tornado at some point, but was beginning to wonder if I’d remembered it incorrectly or made it up altogether in my head, haha! Glad to have confirmation 🙏.

@@GoingtotheMovies hi, I love the movie twister and ever since I was little I so invested in loving tornadoes!!! Im born in April for tornado season!!! Your know what’s funny I don’t know Helen buy 8 coffee cups from a burger restaurant if I was her I be hungry lol 😂
Facts: this movie scared the crap out of 11 yr old me. One of the first very well done cgi films I had ever seen. One of my personal favorites today. Glad you guys decided to revisit film locations. Pretty cool.
I appreciate how well you matched up the movie stills with real life. So many of these movie scene people do not do that, and they are like 20 miles off from the movie, and it drives me up the wall, as well as it's so confusing especially when you're dealing with 30-45 year old movies.
Twister will forever be a loved classic that can be re-watched over and over again in my eyes. Thanks for the video and work you put into the research !
“You used to be able to match up the silos and tree line here but an actual tornado came through and took it all out.” As an Okie and Twister lover, I must say, that might be the best description of Oklahoma that I’ve ever heard. A film about chasing tornadoes captures footage of real world locations that will be destroyed by a real tornado within a quarter century of its filming.
I read an old article interviewing Kathleen Kennedy who was a producer on Twister. They asked her why they chose Oklahoma to film there and she was like “it’s Oklahoma…” 😂
Hard to believe it’s been 25 years. This was a must see movie as a high school senior, because of my interest in tornadoes and my love of VH. I still watch it every time it’s on tv.
The scene diner scene and tire shop was filmed in maysville Oklahoma just south of Norman Oklahoma the tire shop is still there but the diner is gone but you can make out the floor tiles of where it was also the flag pole is still there in the distance the same one bill looks at when he says going green

Twister was definitely an awesome movie. I hope they rerelease it to theatres this year, so that way my niece and nephews can enjoy the same movie-watching experience i had when it first came out. I'm saddened by the fact that Bill Paxton and Philip Seymour Hoffman are not with us to celebrate this movie theater masterpiece.

This is one of my favorite movies. Thanks for doing this video. This movie got me interested in severe weather and storm chasing. Still chasing to this day when I have time when I’m not working or fishing.
I always tell my Twister story. Back when it came out, my older brother and 1 of my younger brothers went to see it in the theatre. It was the late afternoon movie. Once we got outside from the movie, the tornado sirens were going off. A small tornado touched down in Fairmont, MN out in a field. It was during the classic car show in a town just north of us. It was awesome. Way to tugg on the emotions Going to the Movies :). Great video.

Thank you for this video.. My Dad and I were always in awe of storms... He was funny as during the movie he would keep saying "They should not be alive"... LOL
That sounds terrible! I can't even imagine what I'd do if that happened. An EF4 passed a few miles from our apartment last year. That was scary enough!
Twister was the first movie my family saw together in the theater and still remains as my favorite film. I was a teen at the time. I still have the theater ticket.
Thank You for share this video clip. My favorite dvd love part fly cows. . So many awesome parts on this film movie. My mom parents had farm few cows and sheep’s. Love animals. And few pigs. Did fantastic job. Never see this on there dvd over years.

One of my favorite and also most watched movies. I watch it at least once every year. Always on a hot day with thunderstorms in the air. Tonight is such a night where I live, so you know what that means: Twister time!
I just checked on IMDB, and Lois Smith, the lady that played Aunt Meg, is still living, the only main actors that have passed away are Bill Paxton & Philip Seymour Hoffman
"The Burger Joint"/Drive In theater, especially the burger joint, is my favorite movie set of all time. It reminds me of my youth where you could experience the incongruous site of a mom and pop restaurant, and even a Drive-In theater, located in the middle of a bucolic, small neighborhood. Thanks.
@@GoingtotheMovies ok cool. Was the drive in still there or was it built just for the movie. And is the burger joint still there and the motel and the warehouse were they took cover
@@jarrodbushyhead The drive-in, burger joint, motel, and hangar were all built for the movie and taken down afterwards. You can see what it looks like today at 20:40 in the video. Pretty much nothing there except the brick building that you see Bill walk past a couple times.
What a great video, I love it and the movie it’s related to. I’m glad I stumbled across your channel. I hope you get around to making the Twister locations part 2 in Iowa that you mention. ❤
Good job. A lot of fun to chase these down. Tough shoot. Here's a bit of trivia. The sequence that leads your video at the location where Bill tries to get the divorce papers signed was shot on two locations, 10 to 11 months apart. The Oklahoma portion was shot fairly early in the shoot. In the spring of 1996, we did a number of reshoots/additional shots. That scene had significant additional shooting, and that was done in the hills above Simi Valley. A pair of similar trees were picked that could double for the Oklahoma location as long as the shots weren't wide. Being spring time, all the area was very green. The extra work includes Bill hopping up on the pickup to explain Dorothy to Jamie. All the actors were there except Phillip. You'll notice that you only see his character's shoulder in Jamie's shots that were done shot then. Also shot on this day was an expanded version of the final scene when Bill and Helen realize that they have survived the F5, and are sitting in the ruins of the pump house. Notice that it is sunny backlit while the previous shots and final aerial shot done in Iowa are in cloudy weather. The original basic principle crew members were there for this: director Jan DeBont, DP Jack Green, etc.. Now you have to go to Iowa and find the locations there. Stay clear of the suck zone. ;-)
@@GoingtotheMovies We based out of Ames while there. Places to find there: the "beautiful farm" (which was pretty much destroyed) and "hailstorm hill." We returned to Oklahoma for the Guthrie intersection you found, then on to OKC for the crumbling interior of Aunt Meg's house, and the interior of Bill's pickup crashing through the interior of the "rolling" house. IIRC, those were done at the OKC airport. Not sure of my memory on that, though.
I love the movie twister it's still my favorite movie today it's awesome I'm glad you made this video to see where it all was filmed I remember watching twister with my grandparents there dead now good memories
Dude, I’m all smiles on this video. Twister is my all time favorite movie. I grew up watching it and I still cant get enough of it. And I only live about 2-3hours away from most of those locations in Oklahoma. Amazing video! I also love the attention to detail, there’s much I would have missed and never even thought to guess looking there. 10/10 video!
Me and my girlfriend at the time and now my wife, we both went to the theater to see Twister. Watching that cow fly across on the BIG theater screen was pretty amazing. Lol Great great times. Can't believe it's been 26 years ago, wow.
Twenty-five years ! What a fabulous advert for the new Dodge Ram truck too ! That truck was the real star. When we got home from our first viewing I told the wife I'm going to get that truck 😅
The last sequence in the movie, the F5 tornado....that scene was filmed just 10 minutes aways from me in Eldora, IA. That now famous Victorian house, what we call the 'Twister House' is still there. It's been restored to a beautiful blue color. Look it up sometime.
In reference to the scene shot just outside of Ames Iowa where the f5 spared to ranch house, and you see the family coming out of the storm cellar after it passes. My sister in law was supposed to play the part of the ranchers wife, but was sick on the day of shooting and got her friend to fill in for her.
If you go over the hill behind where the Cafe used to be, you will run into the house I grew up in. I grew up in Maysville, and was there for part of the filming (I think I was at church camp one of the weeks). I am not surprised the cafe is gone, it was vacant for many years after, and was a bar for a short period of time. It was pretty run down.
I was there a week ago was sad to see the Cafe gone some of the floor tiles are still there the tire shop in the movie is still there just a different color now and the flag pole in the distance is still there
So deeply thankful for Bill Paxton. From my perspective, a legendary actor!! Dude was killed by Alien, Predator and Terminator!! He was an extraordinary, talented, diverse, intelligent actor. His role in Near Dark is one of my all time favorite characters. I'm thankful He shared his talent with the world.
Also directed one of my favorite movies in the 2000s, Frailty. I think the only movie Paxton directed. The guy had talent. Very missed by me. He made every movie he was in better.
Saw this movie 4 times in the theaters while playing on a traveling baseball team as a kid, then when school started, it was the go to for teachers to show, classic
Really? That is an interesting choice to show in school 😂 We always got October Sky, Remember the Titans, etc. And the Stanley Kubrick/Kirk Douglas Spartacus for some reason…
We went out to Wakita and Kaw Lake on our way back to AZ from Indiana last month. I was so excited to see those 2 sites. There are two bridges that technically cross Kaw Lake so it's refreshing that you got on the right one haha I feel like the perspectives of those shots were done exactly as you described. When we got into Wakita it was night time, but we are headed back out there on an unexpected trip in a couple weeks so I'm excited to see it and talk to people about it during the day!
Dope video! I lived in Oklahoma a few years back and this is something I wanted to do as well. I have seen some of these towns and wondered where the scenes were shot. Good job tracking them down. And keep in mind, Oklahoma gets flooded with tornadoes every year so some of the buildings and light poles may have been rebuilt due to tornado damage.
Hell yeah very cool spot, its hard to believe its already been 25 years since Twister came out. I seen this in the theater when i was a kid and ill be a forever fan of this movie. This movie is apart of the very quilt that was my childhood.
The movie used some scenes from when the Tornado hit Edmonton in 1987, known as Black Friday July 31,1987. They used news footage from that event. My house had it's roof & siding tore off. My shed was blown away. Worst thing I have ever lived though. Scary!
This was the first time seeing this video. Thank you for all the hard work and driving you did to make this. Twister is one of my favorite movies to watch. I remember seeing in the theater when it came out n it blew me away cause I never seen an actual tornado till the movie came out. Anyways thank you again.
I think the movie is the closest I’d like to get to a real tornado haha! 🌪 Thank YOU for checking out the video and sharing that memory. It is greatly appreciated!

One of my favorite and also most watched movies. I watch it at least once every year. Always on a hot day with thunderstorms in the air. Tonight is such a night where I live, so you know what that means: Twister time!
🔥🌪🔥
I just checked on IMDB, and Lois Smith, the lady that played Aunt Meg, is still living, the only main actors that have passed away are Bill Paxton & Philip Seymour Hoffman
Wow! She is 90 now!
Adele Stackhouse in True Blood.
Eli McCulloughs daughter. She's a badass on "The Son" with James Bon....Pierce Brosnan.
I like the "archeology" in videos like this!
Thanks.
That was probably my favorite spot to visit as well! The set design for that scene was awesome!
Wasn’t that in Guthrie Oklahoma
@@jarrodbushyhead yep!
Stay clear of the suck zone. ;-)
Thanks for sharing that! That explains why I couldn't figure out exactly where that portion was. Can't wait to hit Iowa!
I’m so excited you found these locations! This is amazing! Also, 14:46 “what is this” had me dying 😂
Haha! That poor thing... whatever it was 😭
Jo s childhood House at the beginning was filmed near Wakita the house isn’t there but one of the silo things is still there
@@GoingtotheMovies It looked like a baby kitten that was run over. So sad.
Looked like a suicidal ideation squirrel - we have those all over here. 😢
I like this films. My favorite films! Great work! Thanks
great video i remember going to the theaters to see this as a kid this brings back memories i watch this movie everytime its on tv a Classic
Thank you, Midwest Ordnance! Glad you liked it!
Me and my girlfriend at the time and now my wife, we both went to the theater to see Twister. Watching that cow fly across on the BIG theater screen was pretty amazing. Lol
Great great times. Can't believe it's been 26 years ago, wow.
Excuse me, 25 years ago. Lol!
This video made me nostalgic for some reason. Love it
Twenty-five years ! What a fabulous advert for the new Dodge Ram truck too ! That truck was the real star. When we got home from our first viewing I told the wife I'm going to get that truck 😅
My dad must’ve seen it around the time it was released cause that was about the time he bought a red Dodge Ram as well 😂
That movie sold more Dodge trucks than Motor Trend, seriously.
Did you get the truck?
The last sequence in the movie, the F5 tornado....that scene was filmed just 10 minutes aways from me in Eldora, IA. That now famous Victorian house, what we call the 'Twister House' is still there. It's been restored to a beautiful blue color. Look it up sometime.
I’ve got a map of all the spots in Iowa, so we’re excited to hit those eventually!
In reference to the scene shot just outside of Ames Iowa where the f5 spared to ranch house, and you see the family coming out of the storm cellar after it passes. My sister in law was supposed to play the part of the ranchers wife, but was sick on the day of shooting and got her friend to fill in for her.
Summer 1996 the summer right before my senior year man I had so much fun that summer
Was gorgeous tho.
"Dude was killed by Alien, Predator and Terminator!!"
Also by Phill Coulson in the MCU.
He was in Terminator?
@@marcjohnson643 One of the three punks at the start of the film that provide the Terminator his clothing.
He was also blown up in a Pat Benatar video where he played a German officer.
Also directed one of my favorite movies in the 2000s, Frailty. I think the only movie Paxton directed. The guy had talent. Very missed by me. He made every movie he was in better.
I remember seeing this movie in theaters as a kid! Cant believe it's been 25 years. Still love this movie though!
That was awesome! Great job, very interesting!
This movie never gets old whenever it’s on TV I watch it
I remember seeing this in theaters, and MAN was it intense! I miss those days, of going to the movies every other weekend.
I Still Can't Believe Bill Paxton Has Passed On . Rest In Paradise.
@@GoingtotheMovies well, living in Kansas made it a priority 😉
We went out to Wakita and Kaw Lake on our way back to AZ from Indiana last month. I was so excited to see those 2 sites. There are two bridges that technically cross Kaw Lake so it's refreshing that you got on the right one haha I feel like the perspectives of those shots were done exactly as you described. When we got into Wakita it was night time, but we are headed back out there on an unexpected trip in a couple weeks so I'm excited to see it and talk to people about it during the day!
Haha! I saw that second bridge, but I always try to triple check everything. And, Wakita is great! Make sure to go through the Twister Movie Museum!
The two bridges are washunga bay bridge where it was filmed and sarge creek was not filmed I lived in the area during filming
My childhood movie, even today i could watch it and not tire of it.
Rip Bill
This movie was an awesome experience in the theater back in the day. Nonetheless, rest in peace to Bill Paxton, and Philip Seymour Hoffman.
I love twister it's the best storm disaster movie of all time.
This was amazing to watch. I was obsessed with the movie and still watch it every now and then. Great work!
Thank you, Travis!
One of my all time favorite movies, have owned it in every available format including the VHS! I’m REALLY REALLY HOPING we get a 4K UHD rerelease!!!
That would be a day one purchase for me! I've read rumors of a 2022 release.
Hell yeah very cool spot, its hard to believe its already been 25 years since Twister came out. I seen this in the theater when i was a kid and ill be a forever fan of this movie. This movie is apart of the very quilt that was my childhood.
Impressive!!! Thank you, seen this movie like a 100 times and always wanted to visit the spots.
Glad you enjoyed it! It was a loooooong but FUN trip!
I like that at 4:52 Bill actually drives by.
I was about 3-4 when this movie came out and almost burned out my parents VCR rewatching it. Still my favorite movie till this day...
Thank You! Really thank for doing this...! 🤩
Thanks for checking it out, DLG!
The movie used some scenes from when the Tornado hit Edmonton in 1987, known as Black Friday July 31,1987. They used news footage from that event. My house had it's roof & siding tore off. My shed was blown away. Worst thing I have ever lived though. Scary!
I think that might have been when Pennsylvania had it's largest known tornadoes.
@22:07 Those are my fathers motorhomes. He used to own the old sante fe depot of Guthrie. Cool video...
Awesome! We spent some time around the depot checking it out. It was really cool.
10:37 "Late again Jonas?! Fashionably late."

RIP Bill Paxton & Philip Seymour Hoffman
RIP Bill, One of my Favourite film of his.
And Philip Seymour Hoffman
I'm just happy they didn't green screen anything for this movie and actually tried to do all the hard work.
