I like to get Airfix models and soldiers from BMC toys in America. I have literally thousands of army men. Importing from the states can be expensive.

Yea man! Nice job on the improv.
A friend of mine does 1/72 he uses automotive primer and automotive paint for basecoats. He says it flexes better and is designed to stick to plastics. If that helps.
I do like when you get a box or blister that is incomplete, and you fix it yourself whenever possible, great going.
