In 1972 I drove into New York City from Hartford, CT on three separate occasions to see three sequential performances of “Il Trovatore” for one reason... Fiorenza Cossotto. A force of nature, I’ve never heard any other mezzo who could touch her.
I am not a specialist in mezzosopranos or altos,but Cossotto must be one of the greatest of them all.I have a vinyl of Un ballo and she is so great.Now my recordplayer is broken ,grrrrrr . One of my teachers ,Pier Miranda Ferraro sang with her and said she was the best...Domingo metal sound I also like..
karifrid She certainly was one of the greatest particularly in the Verdi repertoire. I am a mezzo and I learn so much from watching and listening to recordings of her!
