If there is one singer that I have NEVER read a negative review of, it is Shirley Verrett! Nearly all superstars have one or two negative reviews -- a cracked note at one time, etc., but not her -- not a single bad thing to say about her, and of course it's obvious why -- she was a consummate artist. Only thing about this video clip is that they are singing into the microphone rather than to each other -- they barely exchange glances, notwithstanding that it is a concert performance rather than a fully staged production. A pity because I think their interaction would have lent even more power to the performance.

Art Danks - I didn't think so. Domingo kissed her hand and seemed appreciative of Verrett's performance, and she his. It must have been the microphone issue. Placido looked intently at her while she was singing. This is truly opera.
@PolishViking I seem to have perceived that whenever I have seen Placido and Luciano singing a duet that they seem to be competitive with each other. Maybe that makes sense since they were the two major tenors in the late twentieth and early twenty-first centuries. And Shirley Verrett was a wonderful, true professional.
