I can't thank you enough for this video. In October, an orthopod diagnosed me with a small rotator tear "typical for your age." His only advice was to "keep moving it, all the time, so it doesn't freeze." After two months of haplessly flapping my arm around and getting worse, I found this video. I had some relief after doing it just once and now, after a month, I'm almost completely pain free. Again, thank you.
You are an absolute life saver. I’ve been having issues with my rotator cuff for the past 4 years from a lifting incident and recently it’s been hurting me a lot since I picked up working out again. I tried the sleeper stretch and I was amazed at the fact when I lifted my arm up, there was barely any pain. Thank you so much for this video. I hope it continues to help others!
The pain on my right shoulder almost completely vanished after doing some of these exercises in less than 20 minutes. This is some Harry Potter stuff man. Thanks doc!
Dealing with arthritis, rotator and labral tears. The stretches you provided have helped me identify and isolate one of the last pesky impingements. Keep up the good work.
Hi Dr. Jo! My shoulder really started bothering me right around when Coronavirus started going, and I couldn't make it to my PT appointment. It was getting worse, but I didn't want to risk my life setting foot in a hospital for a shoulder owie. I finally googled and found you, and beginning to feel better slowly already! Your videos strike the right balance of being informative, fun, short, and the tone is perfect and approachable. Thanks so much for helping me stay safer at home -- and with less pain!
I am sooo familiar with all these stretches. I had rotator cuff repair in January and 4 months of physical therapy. I'm so glad i found you on you tube.
Recently I was diagnosed with extreme arthritis in my right shoulder. My doctors recommendation was to build up the muscles in my shoulder to compensate this disease. I cannot afford physical therapy. I feel so greatfull I have found your you tube page.
Thank you so much for this video. I was having so much pain in neck, traps, and chest region that I went to a chiropractor. While it did help majority of my symptoms, there are times I get some pain from the rotator cuff area. This helped relieve that. Thanks!
Several months ago I broke me arm in two places and was immobilized for 3 months. There was non-union of one the fracture so I ended up needing surgery. In total, my arm and shoulder were immobilized for a total of 6 months. Then I couldn’t move my shoulder! My OT/PT therapist focused on my wrist and hand only. So I performed these shoulder exercises exactly as performed by Dr. Jo. Within only 4 months of doing them daily, I regained complete shoulder movement and strength! I no longer need a towel for the back stretch, I can touch the fingers with both hands!
added to my morning routine. helps a lot with my rotator cuff. now it don't hurt any more when i raise my hand left hand, point the thumbs down and push it down with my other hand. it seems not only my lats but my rotator cuff are also stiff, these stretches target them both and now i don't feel any discomfort. thank you.
Hi Dr.Jo! i have been doing these exercises for only 2 days, I have a right rotator cuff tear it's been hurting for almost 9 months now, I am happy to report that my shoulder is feeling way better after only doing these exercises again for 2 days! I definitely recommend these exercises thanks dr. Jo keep up the great work 😁
Ok, you just earned another subscriber to add to the zillions you already have. I thought I had an injury, but apparently, all I needed to do was stretch out some very tight muscles. I'm ready to get back out and get going. Thank you!
Hello, my name is Heron Patel, and I live in Orlando, FL. I have watched and applied your TH-cam video “shoulder rotator cuff - Stretches “ to my physical therapy routine. You have really helped me, torn rotator cuff . I can’t thank you enough . God bless.
Hi DoctorJo, I am a pretty active middle-aged man. I have caused some discomfort in my shoulder (quite severe at times) which was initially caused when bench pressing before lockdown. I am still doing lots of exercise but it does reach a point where it becomes too painful to carry on sometimes. I have done these sets of exercises twice now. Really all I can say is thank you 😊. It has helped tremendously (first nights sleep without shoulder pain in over a month now). I will continue to do them so I can hopefully get back to an injury free shoulder. Thank you once again. Now all I need to do is get my Achilles sorted😆
I have had rotator cuff pain since the corona virus hit and consequently, I checked out your video. I decided to try one stretch to see if it helped. I chose the corner stretch. It helped relieve a ton of pain in just 3 sets of 30 seconds over a four hour period of time. This morning, I decided to try all ten. The towel is the most difficult. I wonder if my rotator cuff pain is due to a ac joint separation when I was 20 and lack of stretching. I am definitely going to keep using your stretches as I have been released from constant daily pain. I appreciate your insight and style. Thank you so much!
Doctor Jo you're the best, you helped me in identifying my sciatic vein and now I am back here for my mother, who's lately experiencing a lot of pain in her right arm.
Thank you for this video. After following your advice for a month, my arm is feeling SO much better! I have better range of motion and less pain. Thank you Dr. Jo.
You are terrific. These stretches have restored both rotator cuff tear and frozen shoulder to a less painful, more range-of-motion. There are so many 'doctors' with so many different techniques. I tried physical therapy and boy, they think Hercules is their patient. Even my orthopedist thought I should use dumbbells. It seemed wrong, wrong, wrong. How can you actively engage sprains and tears with active exercises. It seems like 'duh' not to push so hard already injured joints and muscles. I do your exercises with a cane, climb the walls(not using the bulbous activity ball) and I am almost pain free. A plus is your demeanor, your personality, the ease you can communicate. Wish you were my doctor. Thx Robert
Thank you!!!!!!!! I have “Saturday night palsy” from hand to shoulder just doing the ones I’m able to do i feel the muscles in my rotator cuff releasing. This is great!
Thank you, for sharing the rotator cuff exercises. My job is physical, and this is the first time I'v e experienced pain in my shoulder lasting for a few weeks. Thanks, for being kind enough to share your advice, I really appreciate it! Your dog, Bear, is cute!
Omg my rotator cuff has been hurting on and off for the last year and stretch number 8 is a game changer! My insurance doesn't cover physical therapy so this is a huge help to me. Thank you :)
The internal rotation with a towel is actually a close representation to how my rotator cuffs got injured. When me and my older brother where younger we fought all the time and one of the things he always did to make me stop bugging him or just because he wanted to hurt me was to yank my arm into a chicken wing and pull up on it. When my mom took me to the doctor because I couldn't move my shoulders the doctor had told us that surgery would be the only real way to help me. We can't afford surgery sadly. After a couple years of not having any pain in my shoulders and perfect mobility of them the pain started back in. Since then it will be fine but still slightly stiff off an one. Recently as in the last 2 months I don't have good mobility of my right shoulder. Is hurts to the point of tears to move it. I'm looking forward to trying these stretches and exercises to hopefully make improvement on both my shoulders but mostly my right shoulder 🥰
Your video really helped me. I injured my rotator cuff not too long ago and these stretches really helped. My rotator cuff is not 100% yet, but it is much much better than before after doing these stretches. The towel stretch was especially helpful. Thank you very much for your video.
6/19/22-11/2/22 I was unconscious for majority of the time. Diagnosed with a grade 3 diffuse axonal injury. Went to physical therapy for 4 months. I gained strength but still have a lot of tightness especially in the shoulder and ankle (on left side)
Wow this was super helpful!!! I’m only 17 but the last few weeks I began to get random shoulder pains :( last time it just went away on its own, but today it came back worse than ever so I had to do something! I found your videos and didn’t feel anything at first, but at the end I realized that the pain had suddenly disappeared!!! Thank you so much! Now I can sleep well :)

AskDoctorJo Hello. I have a medium tear in my right cuff and light tear in my left. I had ankle surgery in July and will have ankle replacement in a month. I am non weight bearing on my right ankle and using a walker until at least 6 weeks after my next surgery. My shoulders are worse than ever now. Getting a shirt over my head is a big challenge. Are these exercises good for my tears or since I’m using the walker, should I expect everything to get worse. Not sure if I should start anything until after my ankle surgeries have healed and I am off the walker. Thank you!
Thank you once again Dr Jo stretch 8 9 and 10 really really helped open up my chest and shoulders and I feel so much better breathing aswell. Been swimming for a few months and this was appreciated so much 😊
@@AskDoctorJo Thanks. I have follow up questions. How many repetitions and sets should I do for these exercises if I'm a beginner? How often should I do this in a day? in a week? How many months should I do this?
Hi Dr Jo, thanks so much for these exercises. One thing I’m not to clear on is the 30 second thing. Do I need to: a) Do the stretch and hold in the stretch position for 30 seconds, or b) stretch and return and then repeat for 30 seconds? Hope this makes sense. In the video you do each move several times which is making me favour “b)” but I’d appreciate your confirmation. Thanks again! 🧘🍾❤️
You're welcome. Holding the stretch for 30 seconds. I usually don't do the full hold unless it's a realtime/follow along video because doing the whole routine usually makes for a long video (which some people don't like). So hold 30 seconds, relax for 5-10 seconds, and repeat 3 times. If you are interested in realtime videos, you can find them here: th-cam.com/play/PLPS8D21t0eO93jgHPXX-vlT5wIc9ZfRYf.html
My Dr. has diagnosed me with a torn rotator cuff. I am awaiting x-rays. In your opinion should I start doing these exercises now, or wait until we are aware of the extent of the tear? Many thanks.
Dr. Jo, you don’t say how many of these different stretches to do at a time. Also, I just hurt my rotator cuff and I wonder if I should give it a healing period before starting this exercises. A few years ago my husband severely damaged his rotator and didn’t know what had happened and he ended up with a frozen shoulder. I helped him with PT for 12 weeks (plus going to a physical therapist). It was excruciating!! And I don’t want to follow in his footsteps😉
Hi Doc...been doing the first 3 exercises as those being the easiest and my condition is still painful. But it works wonder after 2 days of practicing. Will keep doing the rest of the advance movement 7 and above 1 step at a time. Thank you for your sharing. Will update my latest condition soon.
Hi Dr. Jo hoping for your response. I had a slight shoulder pain and i dont know if its a tear or tendinitis or whatsoever for already a year. But thankfully, i can still lift some weights and perform some exercises as i usually goes at the gym. My question is can i do these stretches while i also do some gym exercises? Thanks
My entire body was sore from the gym so I decided to take a rest day. I was laying on my side on the couch and once I got up now I cannot lift up my left arm because of the shoulder pain!! Never had this before . I will try this and hopefully it heals 😩
Hi, for the pendulum swings, how come other websites tell you to actually move your shoulder and arm in the instructions, they dont' move the whole body like you do, what is the difference?
I was just diagnosed with mild arthritis in my right shoulder. Super tight and mobility is limited. I started doing these stretches and have already noticed some improvement. Should I do these once a day? Should I ice my shoulder after the stretches? Thanks so much Dr. Joe
Glad they are helping. Therapeutic exercises can be done every day, 1-3 times a day. Icing afterwards can help if the area feels slightly swollen, sore, or hot after stretches and exercises.
Thanks for the amazing content it really help me ! But doctor the 4th exercice really hurts my shoulder when I let my arm comes back :( but I feel a little bit better after all these exercices, thanks!!!
Hi doctor, thank you very much for sharing these exercises. I have pain on shoulder and arm pain for almost a month now. Taking injection and stronger pain killer to relieve the pain. I can do most of the exercises but not no.7 bcoz Im not able to put my right hand at my back.
Thank you. I just went to the hospital this week because I developed a really bad pain in my upper left arm I just couldn't take it anymore. Anyway, it turned out to be my rotator cuff. What makes it even worst is that I'm left handed.
You're welcome! It really depends on what specifically why you are doing them. If training is painful, it's usually best to do before to help loosen everything up.
Dr Jo , could you please help me ? I did move my arm to reach my back and my shoulder ( right ) got in pain, since then like a month ago , I cant put my jacket, I cant reach my back , everything that involves move my arm back, I would like to know what muscles are involved, and if this exercises will help. It was an interna rotation move that I did like the one with the towel that you show after that is kind the muscle I cant do that move anymore it hurts. We are in pandemia and cant go to PT now . Thank you .
Thanks for the video. So all the stretch positions are suppose to hold it for 30 seconds each time, instead of like in your video, doing them over and over again without holding? Thanks!
Dear doc, i took a depo medrol injection for.my shoulder pain... People around me says its a dangerous injection it has numerous side effects.. Is that true ?
Hi Dr Jo I am still doing Rotator Cuff stretches and I am getting great results thank you for knowledge . I am 66 years of age and because I have had good results with the Rotator Cuff stretching I decided to stretch the rest of me and I feel very good do you think I should carry on or is stretching at my time of life not a good thing kind regards Arthur Hughes

About shoulder width apart.
@@AskDoctorJo Thanks. I have follow up questions. How many repetitions and sets should I do for these exercises if I'm a beginner? How often should I do this in a day? in a week? How many months should I do this?
Thanks Jo. These exercises have helped me a great deal.
Cheers. All the best to you.
You're welcome.
Many thanks @@AskDoctorJo much appreciated!
Does driving bike daily for longer duration increases pain due to existing rotator cuff damage?
So very helpful, and fun to do. Thank you so much Dr Jo, for sharing your knowledge. I really appreciate it x
Thanks, and you're welcome! Good luck.
Wonder! I can feel it help my rotator cuff injury. Thank you!
You're welcome!
I always find myself here when my shoulders get to actin' up and it ceases to fail.
Thanks Doc!
You're welcome!
Love your videos Dr Joe❤
Thanks!
My Dr. has diagnosed me with a torn rotator cuff.
You're welcome. Good luck.
These are so helpful...thanks!
You're welcome!
These are all fabulous stretches and my favorite would be number 10 as well, 🙏
Hi, for the pendulum swings, how come other websites tell you to actually move your shoulder and arm in the instructions, they dont' move the whole body like you do, what is the difference?
I was just diagnosed with mild arthritis in my right shoulder. Super tight and mobility is limited. I started doing these stretches and have already noticed some improvement. Should I do these once a day? Should I ice my shoulder after the stretches? Thanks so much Dr. Joe
Glad they are helping. Therapeutic exercises can be done every day, 1-3 times a day. Icing afterwards can help if the area feels slightly swollen, sore, or hot after stretches and exercises.
@@AskDoctorJo thanks for the quick reply!

Hey, so if you want to do flexion with stick,
Do you need to keep your arms up for 30 seconds according to your brief on the beginning ?
Good question. This is the problem with these videos. Conflict between what she said regarding length of stretch and what she demonstrates.
Hi. I got some pain in my shouleders during swimming will this exercise help me?

Merry Christmas dr. Jo Thanks for everything
Thanks, and you’re welcome.
Hi, Dr.Jo. Are these exercises good for injured rotator cuff( injured ligaments and tendons). Thank you very very much in advance for your reply.
As long as you are cleared by your doctor to do stretches and exercises for it, yes they can be done with an injury.
@@AskDoctorJo Thank you very much, dear Dr.Jo)
You're welcome.
Looks easy enough thanks Doc 🤗❤️
You’re welcome.

You're welcome.
Thank you. I just went to the hospital this week because I developed a really bad pain in my upper left arm I just couldn't take it anymore. Anyway, it turned out to be my rotator cuff. What makes it even worst is that I'm left handed.
You're welcome.
Thank you Dr. Jo! Can I ask when I should do these stretches? Before training/rehab or after? Thank you!
Thanks!
Yes, hold the stretches for 30 seconds.
@@AskDoctorJo Thank you so much! :)
You're welcome! Good luck.
The last routine is really helping me. Thanks very much Dr Jo. Love to Bear!
You're welcome. 🐾
Dear doc, i took a depo medrol injection for.my shoulder pain... People around me says its a dangerous injection it has numerous side effects.. Is that true ?
