I was inspecting my first house with the realtor before closing, putting little stickers on little things to be repaired or painted. We went up the ladder to look at the attic and light wouldn’t turn on. It was very dark and when I stepped aside to let the realtor go down the ladder I fell through the ceiling into a bedroom below. Turns out we were standing on a very small platform but couldn’t tell in the pitch black. Luckily I was 25 and more durable back then.
A la Chevy Chase in Christmas Vacation. Except he landed on the top bunk bed in the bedroom, and only fell about 3 feet. A funny scene. Yea, I hear you about not being as durable as when 25. That was a long time ago. lol
Very smart to not mess with stuff that'll kill you. Worth it in the long run. I had side mount GDO's on my previous house. I need to do the upgrade on the current house. The difference between side mount and overhead is night and day. Side mount is so much better.
Love it! I'm still loving my wall mount garage door opener I installed after you did the last house garage. So much better than the ceiling mount opener. Great job Dan and Adam!
I got the Chamberlin(home Depot 🇨🇦) version of this opener because the garage door company ran out due to the vid. Chamberlin was the same price but did not have the battery backup.
The Chamberlin version has a myq cat5 wireless gateway. It was hard to add to myq because I wasn't scrolling down to find the gateway. I was selecting the opener on the top of the myq new device selection. Bad UI!
@@yannicali How so? The door rails are still in the same place? I could see it would help for the double garage, but not the single garage. Is the lift going in the double side?
Garage door repair margins are crazy - check out what the actual cost is of those springs and parts on Amazon vs what they charged you and their labor rate. I had the same type of upgrade and could not believe how bad they got me. They know those damn springs are not something most will want to deal with
I wonder if it would have been a good idea to have your doors insulated and then hire the company to spec your springs for the weight of the doors. I know the springs can be adjusted but spec'ing the springs for the correct weight then adjusting is usually advised
I’m guessing it’s to late now but for the mini split they make a direct replacement air handler that goes in the ceiling if you want to put it in the middle of the room and not on one wall. If it’s not to late that would help a ton with equal cooling. Looks like you oversized the system which is good but something to consider if there is still time
I have used these openers for years and they are great. I am curious -- did you test the manual lift behavior of the doors by hand before connecting the 8500's to see if the tension was OK? The door should be easy to lift by hand and hold position by itself. If that is all good, you're in the zone and there should be no issues. If the door is hard to lift, or falls by itself, or raises by itself, or doesn't easily pull down from the top, then those are all clues the springs need to be adjusted. Adjustment is not hard, but you have to be extremely careful as the springs store a lot of tension and can really cause damage and injury. So it's smart to call in a pro if you have any doubts or concerns. Are the garage walls already insulated with proper vapor barrier? That is not always a given with garages, since very few are conditioned, but if you do plan to add climate control, it's very important to make sure the insulation is setup right so it will not create moisture problems. And putting insulation on the garage doors is super important. On our old house, insulating the garage door made a massive difference in the summer. Good luck with the project, I look forward to the next updates!
The only problem with everything you did was the “MyQ” app. Once you register your door with then it’s then locked into their system. My openers are in my alarm system. But if that works for ya, good deal!
Great video Dan! Was waiting for this one. Love the side mount openers. Any chance you could convince Meg to make her tortilla soup in a video? That soup looks delish and the presentation is divine!
Just curious is there a way to open the door manually in case of power failure? I heard that solenoid lock but how would you unlock it and how do you release the motor to open the door?
There is a pull string that disconnects the opener from the door jackshaft, so you can use manually if needed. The lock solenoid has a handle you can grab to slide it open/closed manually.
I've got a good one too you can find it on copycat recipes by Todd Wilbur. It's Islands restaurants chicken tortilla soup super yum looked very familiar too Megan's. It looks so delicious I'm going to islands for lunch today. Hahaha, have an awesome weekend Dan! Adam!Josh! Quack Josh!!🦆 Meg! & The boy! Love you all.
Nice job, i really like those Liftmaster. Oh Megan that soup looks amazing, i will like the recipe if its not a secret, of course :p. Yep a super car channel and i am asking for a soup recipe. Lol Note: good to know that Adam's wife is real lol
I have these in my garage and love them except that joke of a light that comes with them. I have the lift master homelink switch on my main lights it work so much better!!
If this was me... I would be thinking "Dude, this garage door is kicking my ass, how do you think you're going to manual transmission swap a Ferrari?". I think this all the time when something is over my head.
You work on Ferraris but won't adjust your own garage door spring? It isn't that hard or as dangerous as you make it sound. You just need two rods to tension the spring and a bit of common sense and you can do it. Great job on the opener installation.
There's no need to say "alright TH-cam" every time you start a clip. Thanks for the video though, I think I'm going to go with a wall mount. Appreciate it.
Sounds like you hired precision door to help. You would have been way better off with a local door company. A service call including all new hardware and springs in TN would be about $800
Good decision to get professionals in. Those large springs can be real finger snappers! BTW, Dan, you do know it's June, right? Yet I see no rainbow around your logo. Expect a visit from the lgbt mafia soon to point out the error of your ways. :-)

Yup, never mess with the springs.

Right on! I love them. I can't go back to the chain drives.
@@normalguysupercar you can buy a belt drive which is as quiet
I got the Chamberlin(home Depot 🇨🇦) version of this opener because the garage door company ran out due to the vid. Chamberlin was the same price but did not have the battery backup.
I would say that the Chamberlin might be slowers but our doors are insulated.
The Chamberlin version has a myq cat5 wireless gateway. It was hard to add to myq because I wasn't scrolling down to find the gateway. I was selecting the opener on the top of the myq new device selection. Bad UI!
Finally I'm running temporary power to my garage. So when power goes out and back on you can't use myq until you first use the remote.
Yeah, I had the Chamberlain before and I like the Liftmaster a little more. It has a few extra features that are nice.
Maybe I'm missing something, but the only advantage I see is the quietness, but no overhead space savings for the lift? Did I miss something?
Its a cleaner look and it does give you more clearance if you have a taller car like a truck or suv on a lift such as the magic jack.
@@yannicali How so? The door rails are still in the same place? I could see it would help for the double garage, but not the single garage. Is the lift going in the double side?
Lift on single side. The rails of the door are wider than a car or a lift.
@@normalguysupercar It would be nice if you could work on the car with the door up though during the fall and early spring.
I have the side mount door lifts with MyQ. Absolutely love them. I had them professionally installed.
They are great

Why didn't you install a high lift track since you were doing all that work? It gets the whole thing out of the way for all time.
