How to Install Wall Cabinets as Base Cabinets | Pantry Storage Idea

  • In this video, I install wall cabinets as base cabinets. For this pantry, I wanted to maximize the 4' X 6’ space. By installing wall cabinets as base cabinets, we are able to double the available floor space. When installing any cabinetry, just remember to make them plumb, level, and square.

Remember the first laser level we used as carpenter installing drop ceiling in large commercial building rooms. What a great device!!! Sure made installing starter and field tracks etc. made job faster and better. At that time they were very expensive thousands of dollars. I have a Dewalt one now I use for everything.

Heh, this reminded me of how i built my Clothing/dresser cabinets, out of kitchen cabinets that are very shallow (40cm ones). Works perfectly and even have a countertop on top of it that is very handy for odds and ends while saving space and have all the hardware & hinges included not having to build everything custom. Did have to do some custom work on the doors as kitchen doors didnt match the room but that one i saw coming beforehand.
Gotta think out of the box sometimes :)

I'm working on similar project, also with pre-built cabinets, but the wall in play is not square to the existing plank floor, which I'm keeping. The wall is 1.5" out over its 11' length. I'm aligning with the floor planks rather than the wall to maintain the visual symmetry; the gap between each cabinet (4 total) and the wall must constantly increase from flush on the left end to 1.5" from the back wall on the right end. That means I have to build a base frame that rests on the floor rather than use a ledger board. Given the 12" depth (13.5" on the right), I don't see a need for a toe kick. My base frame is flush to the cabinet base frame, making my baseboard trim essentially flush with the door fronts.

Love your videos, been following since the bedroom remodel of your first house I think hahahah and we even have the same name! (although in different languages hahahah) I just have a question, why are you keeping the old carpet as much as possible? Is it for any safety reason? I imagine with kids around it would be best not to leave the floor all exposed with a risk of forgetting a pointy staple or nail maybe?

Ok, probably gonna get crap for saying, but I do not like shaker style cabinets, & here is why. Most will have vertical stile especially if over certain width, more importantly…..the shaker doors & recessed panel. This created that “lip” all way round & if do not have correct paint & finish this can wear super quick & than repainting & getting factory look using correct enamel paint is not easy for most & can be time consuming if have many cabinets along with COSTS. That lip also attracts dirt & dust like 2-8 yr old kids playing outside on a rainy day….it horrible & cleaning them sucks, lol. So, I prefer the slab face full overlay w/ euro soft close hinge cabinets b/c easy to change color/refinish, & cleaning them is a breeze; & no using mdf/particle board either….i want solid wood.
But this my opinion & everyone diff & do you. Sadly I have shaker cabinets that are opposite of my choice, but, my significant other wins out every time😉
