Those are magnificent vessels; fabulous workmanship! Though I didn’t get to Bordam, I was pretty close with a visit to Ephesus and Kusadasi, beautiful county! There is something warm and beautiful about wooden boat construction. I’ve got a little early 1960s runabout refurbished back in the 1990’s, it can be seen in my video. Thanks for video’s and the accompanying Sting song; teşekkür ederim
i would love to be a boat-builder's apprentice sometime soon... boy that would be a dream come true at 37 two kids and full time work. nice video indeed. The turks are great craftsmen at building in general as well as vocational skills like boat building. Mashallah
Very, Very good craftsmanship, it's an art this day and time,, what a craftsman can do with wood, especially in boat building, this song is awesome and fit the mood of your video,, this is one of the best,, Thank You
Planking method depends on hull shape and whether or not it is to be finished bright. Not finished bright? Planks can be set to any angle from the sheer and don't have to be pretty. Finished bright? Follow the sheer all the way to the chine or major angle at the waterline. Gotta admit, they did a good job of planking the decks.
My wood built Grand Banks is no more maintenance then fiberglass. They buff theirs each year. I paint mine every 7 years. They paint their bottoms every 3 to 5 years. Me too. Mechanical, electrical ect. the same. I keep mine in covered marina. If they leave theirs out, sun and ran do alot of damage. So, there it is.
Title song is "Shape of My Heart", a 1993 song by Sting from the album, Ten Summoner's Tales (quoted from wikipedia, but I do have this album on CD. try to find it, its great. have fun.
Oh ! I can understand that. I am only disturbed by the fact that there are so many beautiful older wooden boats in desperate need of proper restoration.
In do have to say that at 6:10 the plank matching is crap....the art of building this way was lost right there. It makes me think about the whole process....are these guys in any way artisans, or just day-workers for a Turkish offshore builder that give slow $?
emergent aesthetics and craftsmanship of such boats developed through sailing experience of centuries in black sea mamara sea Adriatic mediterrenean sea there is a difference between to be a craftsman and a seaman beauty of such boats comes from reliability in storms which can be extremely sudden in these seas where shores are extremely complex waves heights and length are very very different than other seas due to underwater topography especially in Aegean what seems to many cratsman like yours as aesthetic manifestation actually nothing but tradition and if a craftsman can not appreciate aesthetic values of centuries of authenticity due to lack of knowledge and insight on authentic boat building it is his loss and the horse he rode in into the sea

Sting, "shape of my heart"
wow she is so nice! what kind of woot did you use for it?
Yes but the way they are built is beautiful. The last bits that are added may be popularist shit, but the scenes through the build make me weep.
Turkish Gulets are the best blue water cruising boats ...great party boats....not the best sailing boats....love them anyways.
