“There’s nothing more expensive than a free boat” 😂 wishing you guys all the best!
You are not the first to say that… 😅 Any boat is a money pit anyway!
🤣. I bought a 1972 StarCraft 16 aluminum, with trailer for $400. I wanted a project and boy do I have one.
@@JamesJones-cx5pk 😂😂😂 That’s the fun of it!
Same goes for a “Cheap Aeroplane” too 👨✈️🤪
@@captbiggles2808 😅
I love a boat project. I lived in the Caribbean for 7 years. I helped many friends work on their sail boats. I found it hard work but so satisfying. Bravo to you both. Hope you post videos on renovation
About 30 miles from my home you can drive through the countryside and see project boats in many yards. The broken dreams of well-intentioned men who dreamt of sailing the seven seas 20 years ago. Old worn out boats are sad representations of misplaced hopes!
Wish you all the best!
True words, Andy!
Field of broken dreams.
Cheers for watching 😃
So true. Our local council removes them now.
Could be true. You have to know what it means before take such a boat. I think many people underestimate the project. I also seen broken marriage because of this...
And it’s their love of that keeps them going. But is it the love of the project ????
I'm so excited to see where you guys end up with this project! You saved thousands, which you can use to modify that vessel to the exact way you want it. (as long as you have the time)
Hiya Bambi,
Thanks for the encouragement 🤗
And the money
Just popped up in my feed, was the 2nd episode I ever watched. Please rewatch. The journey has been amazing. U both have come a long way. Luv u
Thank you. 😊
Sometimes we don't notice how far we have come and what we've achieved.
It's hard to look back when you are focused on looking forward (ie what we still have to do)
Slowly things are taking shape.
The next projects are really going to change things...
Cheers for watching 🙂
If anyone in the UK would like a FREE 27’ sailboat, which has a zero hours engine and stern gear (fitted brand new, years ago, but never floated), let me know. It’s on the hard in Kent, on the Medway. Is a 1978 Marcon Sabre. No longer in the UK and she needs a new owner who is up for a project - I just want her to go to a good home where she will get the love and life on the water she deserves.
Good luck finding her a new home 😊
Have you found a new owner for your boat yet?
Where is it in medway?
Hope she has a new home..
I'd not I'd love more details? Thanks!
I would love to take her but I'm in the us
Kudos to you both. Awesome videos. Disregard negative comments. It's your baby. Raise the mast as you see fit, and God bless you both. Fair winds. Happy sailing
Love a good boat story. Tons of work, frustration and money. But with success it’s all worth it. Best wishes for a successful rebuild. ❤️
Thank you so much! We know it needs loads of work but we are happy to do it. We’ll learn a lot and have fun with it 😊
Wish you guys good luck. I completely renovated my C & N yacht, 2 years, loved every minute of it. I'll never do it again!
Cheers!!!
Hehe We've got no intention on doing this again once it's finished. It will hopefully be our home for at least the next 10 years :)
You got this, once it’s all done all your hard work will deliver you and friends to the dreams come true list and you’ll know her inside and out with the knowledge of she’s sound, safe and the we did this with our own hands… wishing nothing but the best for you guys, you got this it’s all worth it… take care just subscribed and looking forward to your next video…
Thank you Clifton! That’s what we thought. Instead of getting a job we don’t enjoy for years until we get the money to buy a boat ready to go we’ll invest our time learning about the boat. Hopefully it’s not too big of a project for us… 😊
I could spend days enjoying those old boats. Thanks for the tour...
You're welcome.
Cheers for watching 😃
Marina you are utterly gorgeous - Stuart is a very lucky fella. Happy 2023 to you both, and may your efforts be rewarded with kindness and opportunities.
Many thanks 😊
This is my dream.. I want to get a cheap boat to live on and repair. But where I am, I'll never find something like that. I envy the freedom you guys have.
We didn’t plan it… It just happened. That’s what we like about this lifestyle. Just go with the flow hehe
You have probably just bought the most expensive boat you will ever own. I wish you the very best though. Look forward to seeing how you get on. It looks to be a huge project to take on
We know this… 😅 There’s not such a thing as a free boat… But we do like a challenge!
Great move, looking forward to watching every episode.
Thank you Keith! 😊
Congrats to your new project. No doubt, you'll have no problems with spare time for many months to come, but once you're done with her, the world is your oyster and you'll have the world at your feet. Best of luck and I hope to be able to follow your progress on your YT-channel.👍
Thank you for your kind words Anders!
We hope you enjoy the videos 😊
Yea, Leo bought "Tally Ho"for 1$ too....rebuild costs are huge and he already spent tears on it! But, good luck :)
Fingers crossed!
It seemed like fun at the time.
Tbh it still is.
Plus the summer is coming.
Cheers for watching 🙂
Not true… Leo’s channel earns more than most lawyers…
I saw you from Wakatobi Island 🏝️
Inspire the World guys. Looking forward to see your guys make it happen!
Thank you!
Hopefully someone finds our project inspiring 😊
Maybe inspired not to buy a boat 😂😂
😊😊
Great adventure. Follow your dreams. You looks like a relaxed couple! I will follow you and hope you will sail your own boat in the next two years or so. Love your project! Greetings from the Netherlands!
Heel erg bedankt!
We know it will take time but we think it will be worth it 😊
Next time i am in france i take a look at this boatyard . l wish you a succsessful restoration and will watch. cheers from germany 👍⛵
Thank you Martin!
Let us know if you are ever around! We’ll be here for quite some time 😅
How I miss strolling about in PSL 😃
I think she is a whitby 42🤔
Congrats and all the best,
Aladino
Hiya Aladino, thanks for watching. We really love your videos. She’s a Gulfstar 41. We are a bit intimidated but it’s going to be fun. Can’t take it too seriously… it’s just a boat. If you give it time and money it might one day float.
@@SailingSeabird yikes... Gulfstars don't have the best reputation. It's probably worth what you paid for it though. Good luck with that.
@@HankMeyer Cheers Hank! I guess it depends who you talk to. We’ve got a friend here who’s own the same boat for 20 years and it’s super happy with it. Same year as ours… Hopefully we’ll make it to 20 years with this one 😅
the two happiest moments for a boat captain,,,when he buys his boat and when he sells his boat🤣🤣
Very true words.
There is also a bit of fun to be had between...

@@graemebilbe1828 Hello Graeme! Yes, we do. It’s on the description. We are always grateful when someone contributes after watching our videos. 🤗
Nice, choice, centre cockpit, solid looking Hull, full keel and skeg hung rudder. Inside is nicely laid out and spacious. Would be nice fitted with a junk rig.
Have you found out who designed it and who built it?
Hiya Daniel,
Maybe a junk rig could work. It’s a Gulfstar 41 from 1974. Very similar to our last boat but a little bigger.
Cheers for watching 😀
hi guys the chandlery barge what a place I was there a few weeks ago got so much stuff for mt Atlantic crossing thank you
I really enjoy your videos as the story and boat workmunfolds thank you for sharing
Strip her down and recycle all you can and throw the rest away... Go get that Trimaran and fix her up, much better choice and safer! You are definitely DIY Doodles! Hahaha! Good Luck!
The trimaran wasn’t for sale. We just showed it because it fell off the cradle with the strong winds.
Thanks for the vote of confidence 😂 but we’ll stick with it. It’s only time and money!
Jeez! How many summers left for you? Not enough in mine. Good luck, boat bucks flying away 😂
Hiya, cheers for the encouragement ⛵️
An old guy told me, the most expensive boat he ever owned he got for free.
You got that right.
But it's fun, most of the time.

The journey begins! It was a dark and stormy night, and the ship was out to sea. The captain said to his first mate, “tell me a story m’lad”, and the mate started…. It was a dark and stormy night…. OK, that’s all I got. Wishing you a wonderful adventure!
😉 hehe
I like it.
Thanks for watching 🤩
I know those places well. I refitted mine a couple of times in two marinas. The worst I remember was that it was miles to the supermarket. Best of luck. Keep us posted!
Hi Tim!
It’s not too bad… We are getting pretty quick on the bikes. It’s good! We get some exercise in as well 😅
Great to have you back
Thanks David
We are glad to be back.
I love the title of your channel! Very poetic.
I learnt to sail a dinghy from my uncle when I was small. Some years later he sailed from The Canaries to Rio de Janeiro with a mad Welshman with only one lung-!
Je vous souhaite
tout de bien avec votre bateau. Amusez-vous bien...🙄! Je vais continuer à suivre votre canal! 👌👍
Boat owners will tell you there are two of the happiest days of owning one. Buying it,,!!and selling it. Congratulations!!
We agree!
But that bit in the middle can be fun too...
Cheers for watching 😃
Bought our first boat for £1, and the next for not much more😀, worth every minute of sweat and stress, when Seabird goes back in the water and you get the sails up for the first time, it will be the best feeling. Good luck, and be careful we are now on 3rd restore and looking for the next one🤣
Maria, thanks so much. We love the positive vibes. We have our new home now just got to make it right. 😘
How do you find such an abandoned boat Yard? They probably don't advertise it (?)
@@sebmitb910 most yards have abandoned boats, just go and have a look around, get to know people and ask also check Facebook, we got first boat from 'sitting rotting in a boatyard', our second and third was word of mouth. And yes we have 3 boat restores now!!!
@@mariasouth-wood333 cheers Maria 🙂 It's definitely worth looking into that. TH-cam is full with successful boat restorations and I'd really prefer a boat where I know literally every bold.
Great looking and good solid boat. The cooker alone is worth a few hundred pounds, it’s a Force 10, and they are brilliant. Had one on a previous boat. Love the layout and nice clear decks. Once you clear it out and jet wash the decks you can see what you have which I think is going to be a fab cruising boat. Good luck and I look forward to following your progress. Andy UK
Thanks Andy! That’s exactly what we thought. We managed to give it a first clean and it’s already made such a difference…
It’s as horrible as it gets, but if you’re desperate for a boat and want it very cheap, plus if you’re willing to spend a little or rather all of your time and money fixing it up, you have a deal! Good luck! At least the cushions are nice!!
That's it, the cushions are nice!
Got to start somewhere.
Plus it's fun...

Ok lets get this party started.
You guys rock 👍🖐✌️🍾
Thank you! 🤙🏼
Well you have done it now. I know how you feel. Bought a project sailboat myself and working on it now. Only time will tell if this was a good idea. Looking forward to following your journey. So happy for you.
Cheers, S/V Cork ~ Texas
We know it’s a terrible idea. But what else are we going to do with our lives… 😂😂😂
We hope we’ll make it work. Good luck with your project. Which boat is it?
I don't get why in a big house you can have only one head, but in a small crampy boat, they insist in having 2.
I know. We too wonder the same thing. But that's going to change.
Cheers for watching 😃
@@SailingSeabird thanks, I'm happy to see I have plenty to watch, I will be able to bingwatch the playlist :)
Wheres you phone light? Are you filming with a camera? What is the date on the CA goods?
CA goods?
At this point, we didn't have our phones with us.
You know what they say, Two Heads Are Better Than One lol 😂
Classic "Oh God what have we done?"
Hahaha.
I love it. Great boat. Took me all of 1 seconds to say buy it.
I think you need more subscribers though.
Well done!
Thank you Justin!
😂 Yeah… They say the 2 happiest days for a boat owner are the day you buy a boat and the day you sell it. It’s one of those situations where it’s better not to think too much about it… Just do it! 😛
Hopefully more people join the adventure and decide to subscribe but we believe quality is more important than quality 😉
Me too.
@@SailingSeabird sent you a little prezzie on your Kofi page to say congrats. Just don't be tempted to buy up the whole yard 😞
@@justinfufun5483 thank you so much!!! No, we won’t… 😂😂 We’ve got enough with one project…
The bigger the boat, the bigger the expenses, though makes me sad to see these wonderful crafts, abandoned, 1 euro for some of those, would make you loose thousands of euros or even, tens of thousands or hundreds of thousands, but what boat owner wouldn't like to have her boat fully restored to her grace, hulls aren't the major problem, but main or auxiliary engines, etc etc, i would be fascinated there like a kid on a candy shop though. The time and work you spend on a boat, is just love, at sea she rewards you for each minute you spend with her.
Well put.
Cheers for watching 😃
Sick of every one telling everyone there is nothing more expensive. Let them have their dream 😀😃🙂🙃😊😇
Thanks, it’s refreshing someone saying just go with it. We know it’s going to take time and money but we are enjoying the ride. 🤗
I really admire your courage, good luck 🍀🙏🇨🇾
Where is this boat yard at (w/ all these messed up boats)?
Everywhere
So good to see you guys back. For some reason my TH-cam decided that you simply ceased to exist and I never got the last episodes! I have catchup to view and a joint favourite channel, along with the Wildlings obviously. My cup overfloweth! Happy days are here again...tee-tum-tee-tum-tee-tum-tee-tum!🍻
Thank you Robin!
We remember how you followed us along last year 😊
yea i lived off shore in Santa Barbara ca and in "fools anchorage" (winter anchorage) for 2 years and people would just leave there boat on an anchor and never come back amazing boats would get sunk by sea lions or break anchor and drift onto beach to be crushed it was sad. seems like they need to put the kids in Juvenal hall to work for half sentence to work on boats at boat yards.
Working on a boat definitely keeps you busy...
Amazing guys - just started watching your videos- huge amount of respect to you both for just going for it. Maybe do a video on life before this, would be good to know your backgrounds.
Hi Dale, watch our earlier episodes in Wayzgoose Warrior and that will give you more of an insight.

@@SailingSeabird All good things come to those who wait. Keep graining .
Epic to say the least! Would've been fascinating to see the inside of the wooden boat with the big prop, & other boats. Nice to see you guys back.
Thank you Shane!
We might try and go in that wooden boat. We’ve always wanted to but it looks pretty sketchy 😂😂 Not sure if they’ll be anything solid to walk on…
Congratulations guys your as bonkers as you suspect..😂😉🤣👍🏼💖 I would have tapped out that deck JIC it was balsa cored..but you could probably see that through any holes.
Theres something familiar about that boats layout and lines..check Capt Q and learning the lines.
How long is it, any idea?
I think that wooden one is one of the big river barges...with lines like that..it may have hauled salt.
The steel hull you didnt like the cockpit lines of, might have been interesting inside.🤔
The pirate ship at the second yard looked like A Tiki or Choy Lee..amazing interiors .
Lavender and Citronella are supposed to repel Mossies.
With the Mistral blowing like that watch out for any fire risks..Like in the grass.
If the yard has the owners number ask them to find out what it was and any history..🧙♂️🇬🇧👍🏼⛵ 😉 the keel and rudder point to it being a shallower draft off shore design.
How about a junk rig..?
@@clivestainlesssteelwomble7665 cheers for all the advice Clive. We did find out at the end that it is a Gulfstar 41. We saw a lot of interesting boats around but we really liked this one since the first time we saw it. We think it’s got potential!
@@SailingSeabird
Check out Capt Q and Lady K Sailing for a run down ...on the line.
As far as i know they are a US designed boat.. shes certainly got roomy bilges.. I would be gorilla taping plastic over any holes in the deck or leaky hatches..
Theres going to be rain water in the bilges...so if theres any wood down there it might be messy.
Youve certainly got yourself a project...and i hope they havent 'half hinched' the mast and rigging for something else.
Congratulations and wish you a lot of succeed with the coming boat work! Will follow you, looking forward to the next steps. Greetings from Germany

What do you mean, "... but it's a Perkins"? Perkins is the best little boat engine every produced. My favorite for mid-size boats is the 4-107 because of the wet sleeves.
Oh no, we are very happy with it being a Perkins. It’s the state of it what we are not happy with 😂😂
Used to be the case, now it's Beta. They are marinized Kubota engines. Parts are available all over the world.
Older Perkins parts are getting harder to find.
Best of luck guys 🙂 the sea is a giant hole you throw your money into..
Jett,
You're so very right! But it gives you a lot in return...
Cheers for watching 😃
What are you guys thinking in terms of lightening protection? I recall you uncovering some copper strapping in the bilge recently which I believe was part of the original grounding for the chain plates and rigging.
Forgive me for the question. I am a novice boater. Why would you not first examine the hull condition? After all, the interior may be salvageable, but if the boat cannot float, then you are investing in interior that will not float. Your response would be greatly appreciated.
Tbh, we gave it a look.
It's fibreglass, always fixable (we hope)

If the keel is in decent repair and the hull is water tight, without too much inside damage, four years of good work and about €70K (mast, engine, electrics and all fittings), could bring you to an amazing adventure for the rest of your lives, enjoying exploring the world.

Shorter rig as a ketch. Main has a 10' boom, but we'll balanced with 3 sails up.
I had one in Hawaii years ago. I could easily single hand it with that smaller main.
@@SailingSeabird
If you need to lift/remove the motor (they came with Perkins 4108 50hp) you can remove the pedestal and span a 4x6 across the cockpit to use a chain hoist. The pedestal is directly above the engine.
Fallow your dreams best boat ate the one everyone laugh at. I did the same thing and now have a wonderful adventurous life
What is a boat, a hole in the water where you pour money. Looks to me like it was sunk or rain flooded it as everything down low is really bad. Mary Ann looks good.
At least if we start with 1€ we can afford to put more money in the hole 😂

I like the layout and if you aren't too hung up on cosmetics then a lot can be done to clean it up and make is serviceable. Glad you found the mast and hopefully sails and a motor aren't too expensive. Obviously new they are going to cost a pretty penny but maybe you can get some used serviceable replacements. We had a saying in my car club - buy a 1k car and 6k of tools and spend a year or two fixing it and you will end up with a 3k car. That said getting used stuff where you can will make that whole thing more realistic and you will know the state of everything when you are done v.s. buying a used boat and then having to replace and repair a bunch of things.
Hi Daniel! That’s exactly what we thought. We’ll try to keep it as simple as possible and as long as everything works we are not too fast about it looking perfect… We’ll see 😅
