Bob, you 100% earned that award. Victoria’s simultaneously a magnificent work of craft, a piece of art, and a glorious demonstration of technology. The kick-up rudder, those cooler-than-a-penguin latches, and the glassed strip hull are so perfectly suited for their task, and repairable in an emergency, just the right tech for a voyaging boat.
I am pretty proud of myself for already knowing the "Trucker's Hitch." I learned it on a military deployment. We used it with para cord to set up a clothes line. And whipping a rope end. I learned that in boy scout camp in 1970. First we made the damn rope from twine that we twisted using stick from the woods. Next we waxed the rope. Finally we whipped the tail ends of the rope using just a bit of twine we used to make the rope. So f-ing cool. Thx KP!
What, you didn't forage the wax from beehives, or harvest and spin the hemp? Great stuff. Wish I had learned more rope stuff as a kid - to this day I only know a couple of knots and they never seem to be the right one for the job. That's a resolution for 2024, learn maybe a half dozen useful knots.
Bob, you sure made it BEAUTIFUL, Congratulations, you are not only an excellent craftsman but a lovely and genuine man. Thank you, it has been a privilege to share the journey with you. Sheffield UK.
Arabella was slowly built by sweat and blood and a lot of learning. Victoria was built by a true Master craftsman. From the keel up. FOR FREE!! Bob, I had no idea that you lived so far away. I don't know why I never made that connection. I probably did but just never have it much thought I suppose. Victoria IS THE ART OF BOAT BUILDING!!!
Congrats on the award! Even without, those of us that have watched greatly appreciate the build and look forward to your next. One day when I'm driving through central Illinois, I will drive past your shop, or at least the town and think that is where Victoria got a second life. The rest of the family will be clueless. I also found it interesting you didn't know that it would be towed, out back, most of the time. That is the norm when it is expected to get regular use. In port you just pull it up close, maybe on the side for a short, good weather trip. The hassle of bringing it on deck is the oddball. KP's rigging/knots tutorial was also a nice aside.
I absolutely loved this series.Bobs attention to detail. All the way through the build. Finished up to be an absolutely stunning tender. My only regret is, its over. I'm gonna miss your videos . Thoroughly enjoyed the entire series. You are a master craftsman. Thank you.
I will definitely say that there's a massive difference between seeing Bob building a beautiful boat in the shop and seeing it being used in a marina and on the water...
What an amazingly beautiful boat. I sure hope we will get to see her sail on Acorn to Arabella. KP’s sailing and boat knowledge and skills are impressive. Can’t wait to see her boat building channel too.
Bob, if you make it, make it beautiful, and that you did. you take no short cuts and build like it should been build. And I do recognize the attitude, I'm a pensioner now, but I was educated as a graphic designer, worked most of my career as a train driver, but in everything I did professionalism is what's prevails. And I also see this in your work, so the recognition in winning that prize at the wooden boat show is a well deserved recognition of your pristine and dedicated work. Well done sir, you got my deepest respect. Best regards, Danny ps I do hope we will see new build in the future.
Funny, my auto-generated captions said you had help from “meager volunteers” and I couldn’t figure out why you thought that, then I realized you said “eager volunteers” and I said “For sure!”
I’ve said it before and now again, from a combination of two designs, to a design on paper, to a half hull model, to a well functioning tender. I look forward to seeing her sail. Such a wonderful journey. I’m so glad to have found your channel and watch this wonder start to finish. Now back to the 12 1/2 Haven. When you are ready, I’ll be watching.🎉
Amazing boat, Bob! You just killed it! It looks fantastic in the water!!! 😃 Looking forward to the next projects!!! Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Once again: congratulations to the well deserved prize(s)! Love properly seeing the rigg! And great to see KP making child's play out of setting it up!
Good job. I built a Glenn L Marine stitch and glue boat. It was the Bingo with numerous modifications. Especially placement of the gas tank. Pictures are on my TH-cam channel.
Stunning boat. Lovely detail. Really nice. Thanks for sharing. Lovely to see KP doing the rigging. I’ll be subscribing there. I really appreciate the walk through conversation being given. Might be nice to see what else I can learn from KP. Keep smiling. I’m looking forward to seeing what your next project is.
@@MakeSpaceByKP disappointed !! Don’t shoot yourselves down please. Rough edges and all. From the little I have seen here it will be great. I’m genuinely interested in seeing what I can learn.
Thank you again for producing these videos. I started watching because you started building Victoria, but now I am excited to continue with you finished the 12 1/2.
Over the last 20 years I've learnt a few things that have been so useful to know, whipping, splicing and sewing. It's nice to know that I can fix something even if it doesn't look great. 😀 And because of Steve and Bob I'm thinking about building my own boat using the techniques I've learnt from you two, the main difference is it'll be radio controlled. I really don't have much room. 🤔
I LOVED seeing this video. The finished project looks amazing. I wish I could have been there at the WoodenBoat show in Mystic, CT to see the launch. Thanks for posting!
Heartwarming episode. Victoria is truly a work of art that is also functional. Some express themselves by painting or making music and you build beautiful boats :) I love it, well done.
Nicely done Bob. You should be very proud! And I guess I’ll have to eat my words about what I said earlier regarding the weight. My 10 and a half made of 1/4” marine plywood weighed in at 137, but it also has a lot of mahogany parts. I guess I thought cedar was heavier than it is. All the best to you and congratulations for winning the award.
the spitsail is one of the oldest rigs along with the lateen and junk rig Was used on the Thames sailing barge The spritsail when compared to the Bermuda, Gaff , lateen rigs was found to be the most efficient rig from a Palmer report in Woodenboat 1990 like the other square sails such as the lug It doesn't not point as well So, a jib would be a great add on If your boat can handle another sail
Well done Bob! Btw, you and KP feel very comfortable together on camera. With her sailing experience and your background in building, it seems like good potential there for some future collaboration!
An amazing video all round, well done everybody on the build, the splashes (both of them) and the awards. KP you are an amazing person (I previously assumed gender in a past post and I apologise for that) but Im overjoyed that you are launching your own channel which I will be subscribing to as you are already a gifted presenter and quite a natural trainer the way you explained the rig to Bob,, not to mention that you're not too shabby on the tools either 😉 so the videos will be brilliant - Good Luck from Scotland
Duygularınızı katarak harika bir iş çıkarmak, sizin ne kadar değerli bir insan olduğunuzu gösterir. Tebrik ederim. Sabırla mükemmel bir dinghynin imalat aşamalarını gördük . Teşekkürler.
Was the tow hook placed on site? I was wondering how the hook's placement on the stem was determined. Can't wait to see Victoria sailing! Congratulations on your award!
The tow eye was install previously, I showed the installation in a earlier video. The placement is important. Unfortunately there isn’t a formula for this. What you want is for the tenders bow to ride high. So a low placement is necessary. Much for the placement will depend on the shape of the stem. Thanks for watching! Bob
Bob's dedication and craftsmanship is nothing short of saintly. He is inspiring to watch.

What a remarkably stable little boat. A true work of art that I'm sure Capt. Steve will cherish as long as he lives.
Amazing! This is not just a boat.. This is an art.... Thank you for sharing this wonderful masterpiece.
Thank You! Your kind comment is much appreciated.

With just a few more sticks and pivot pins, I think the removable sole can also double as a picnic table on a beach.

Both of those boats are works of art. KP is a treat for boat builders.

A truly spectacular job on the tender Victoria Bob. She is exquisitely beautiful and a highly functional tender. Bravo. Thanks for sharing.

A beautifully designed and executed functional addition to your legacy, Bob.
This is a really nice littele tender. Well designed and well built. The only thing that I think is missing - see her sail.
I’m looking forward to seeing that as well. Sailing her is a recreational activity. Once the dust settles for Steve perhaps we’ll see some video.
I lobbied to move Victoria up the “Arabella to do list,” but Steve wanted refrigeration and navigation lights first. Hmph.
