I think Merrill will stay in the outfield regardless of a HSK move. I would think Wade would fill the role until a better option because available. Maybe from 3rd to 1st being Manny, Bogey, Wade, Croney. Arraez can fill the 2nd or 1st spot from time to time too
@@TalkingFriars fair enough. I would say with how good Merrill has been in the outfield, Preller and the front office will look to add someone to play shortstop and keep Merrill in Center
Second round pick likely dropped there since he wants big money or else will go to college. I like HS picks since more upside and sooner to get better coaching at a ML org and less chance of arm injury.
A couple of my great friends have sons who played against Boston the past few years in high school. One has a son going to play Division I, the other, Division II. They both say that Boston, besides being a stud on the field, is an even better person off of the field.
Is picking high school pitchers is such a brilliant idea, then why haven't they developed any? How about picking some college pitchers who will make it to the bigs sooner? Our STARS Will be collecting their social security checks if and when this guy makes it. So many things to go wrong from the age of 17 or 18. The Padres have picked high school arms in the past with fantastic numbers only to never see them go past class A. A mixture makes more sense to me but then AJ NEVER makes any sense to me. The Padres simply don't develop arms so maybe after 10 years he could try something a little DIFFERENT.
@@brando7266 I'm not saying I wouldn't draft high school players but as far as pitching goes they've developed no one and I would say AJ mostly drafts high school pitching. I would Rather have some guys who have matured physically and mentally more than a high school kid has. You have absolutely no idea what kind of PERSON you will have five or six years later. I think high school is really going out on a limb for a player. It seems like regardless of what age you draft an arm, at least half of them are going to have arm problems. I think every high school arm the Padres have drafted has had incredible numbers as a high schooler and the results of the same, 0 success.
Snelling and these rookies are on completely different timelines. You probably won’t see these guys for at least 3 years if at all. Snelling can come up as early as next year.
I love this pick. Young guy with a lot of apparent skill and potential.
I love how we are going after high school arms, we have a few on the team who in a couple of years will be Aces
@@urielmendiola145 I can't even count the number of times I've heard that over the years with the Padres.

Definitely not as cool as Kash, but Ben is still a legit name too.
My brother faced him this year and we played them in districts
Same we played districts against them and he was gross
Get them use to big league ball and you got machines by the time they ready to hit the show.
I only trust Preller to pick offensive prospects. He’ just drafted another Ryan Weathers.
Dont care. With the lack of proper develpment of the farm and the absurd trades that he does, doesnt matter wich player is selected.

I like our 2nd round pick BOSTON FROM CAMARILLO!

U have a good point, I still remember when we passed on Verlander,
Verlander was the old owner group, old front office people.
New ownership new GM now
@@anotherround6098 I know , but imagine if we had drafted him, instead of Matt Bush,
