I have the same drum, my only snare for the last 20+ years. Love your playing and the tuning of your kit! Thanks for the great video

Dan Monaghan! I was pleased to see you come up in my feed as I remember you from Mansfield. I played the tuba back then but now the drums. I was at that concert you put on there - was that with Derrick Hodge? I remember you playing that song for our dear, late Rachel not long after she passed. Any way, cheers and I hope all is well with you!

Very nice man. I have a 1960 COB Powertone. These snares rock. Did you know Mitch Mitchell used on at the 1967 Monterey Festival and also sometimes in 1970? More low end to the great 400 that he mostly used. I love both of mine and play them all the time. Cheers Dan! Very sweet playing at the end. The snare tuned nice and open, as I like myself!

Love the channel, Dan. Keep it up! "It's got three hyphens in it. How bad can it be?"

you are pretty accurate with the info on the strainer.
5898 would put the drum in '64 and the flat sided Permatension went into production on '65.
Could it be the factory strainer ?... sure .. .stranger things have happened... but it's most likely been replaced.
Also the Cleveland tags go up until early 1966 when CBS bought the company and moved the headquarters to Dayton Ohio.
The drums were still made in Covington Ohio just like they were in the Cleveland tag era but the headquarters moved from Cleveland to Dayton... in late 67 all production moved to Dayton for about two years before the whole circus moved to Fullerton California where everything began to fall apart.
I dig your stuff ... check out my vid here on Rogers snares ... some cool info in it.

Hi Dan, just came across this channel. Great stuff. I also have a Rogers Powertone and love the hi boy hoops. I find the strainer easy to adjust tension with large dial. My drum is dryer than I thought this 8 lug metal drum would be...did you also notice this on yours?

Thanks! My (limited) experience is that most Rogers drums are on the dry side. Your extra tall hoops will further contribute to the dryness. Their height makes them more stiff and thus more restrictive.
