Maybe people don't like the P-85 because they have a tendency to bind if they get dirty or bent? Cleaned and lubed though they work great in my experience.

The Bob Ross of drum tech! My iron cobra 200 HHS has the nylon sleeve but my more expensive Yamaha has threads. 🤷‍♂️ Why the drum industry hasn’t caught up with this yet is unknown.

Dan Monaghan! I was pleased to see you come up in my feed as I remember you from Mansfield. I played the tuba back then but now the drums. I was at that concert you put on there - was that with Derrick Hodge? I remember you playing that song for our dear, late Rachel not long after she passed. Any way, cheers and I hope all is well with you!

About the hoops - Ludwig changed from Chrome on Brass hoops to Chrome on Steel hoops somewhere around 65, i think.. so the earlier Supras had COB hoops, during the transition era some of the Supras might have had one Chrome on Steel and one Chrome on Brass, and once they ran out of the COB hoops all Supras were fitted with Chrome on Steel hoops from there on. Some people say there is a difference to the sound. I have a early 65 Supra with the COB hoops - a magnet wont stick to the hoops. It also has only minimal pitting. Some Supras from that era are known to have the chrome stick very well on the shell. Might have had something to do with Ludwig perhaps using different contractors for the job? Anyway, nice vid and great playing.

Dan, I love my 1968 Supraphonic even more now. Your discussion of the rims and how the earlier models were thinner and the angle of the last flange where rim shots happen is flatter than the newer models, persuaded me to not look for a different rim to make rim shots easier, but to work harder on my traditional grip. Watching you play was a lesson in itself on how to play relaxed, natural and string meaningful musical phrases together. Many thanks! Steve, Deltona, FL

The muffle shape was not to provide two different amounts of muffle. It is shaped that way to make "the turn" on it's way into position. I've got the early '64 with the red pad. Had to put on a P-86. It's been silver powder coated and looks and sounds awesome now! Great vid...

THE FOLLOWING IS ONLY MY OPINION BUT IT IS BASED ON experience that is ten minutes old IN.... MY...OPINION..... no..... support from ludwig do not buy ludwig until you confirm that you can get support. !!!!!!!! i...can....not....get.... ANYBODY..... to answer the phone. I did leave a message... and I got a text back saying please call.... " 574-522-1675 "..... BUT NO ADDITIONAL INFO LIKE AN EXTENSION...AND NO ONE ANSWERS THE DAMN PHONE ........ It appears that Ludwig ..DOES...NOT....CARE ... ABOUT CUSTOMER SUPPORT.... Please call and confirm.... if you CAN get somebody to answer the phone .. great !!... But Pearl....DOES ANSWER THE PHONE. Ludwig...HAD.... STREET CRED...,,, but BEFORE YOU BUY LUDWIG....... Call Ludwig /Conn Selmer AT 574-522-1675 and....try.... to get ANY CUSTOMER SUPPORT !!!!!!!!!!!! . NONE... Pearl has lifetime warranties on their drum hardware... Ludwigs...sound like drums... just like everybody else....they all sound fine... Yamaha, Tama. Ludwig, Pearl...etc..... but LUDWIG....DOES....NOT....ANSWER THE PHONE...... Call for yourself before you buy....... I have four Ludwig snare drums... one is THE FLAGSHIP... 1920 Ludwig Super Sensitive... plus two COBs from the early 1970s and a Mahogany 6 lug Student model from the 1960s....... forsget the snob stuff..... live you wont hear the diff between any of the better drums.... and on a recording?....nope..... so for a drummer support matters...... Pearl answers the phone... and has a lifetime warranty.... e....nuff.....said.... No support?...= ..... no customer loyalty

Very nice man. I have a 1960 COB Powertone. These snares rock. Did you know Mitch Mitchell used on at the 1967 Monterey Festival and also sometimes in 1970? More low end to the great 400 that he mostly used. I love both of mine and play them all the time. Cheers Dan! Very sweet playing at the end. The snare tuned nice and open, as I like myself!
