Great video! A few weeks ago I unearthed a Powertone that I bought years ago and never played. I only bought it because it matched my kit, but I just kept playing my Ludwig Supraphonic. I tuned it up and it sounds amazing!! I love this drum! Unfortunately, someone put a Pearl throw off on it so I need to replace it with the correct throw off.

Another excellent video! I'll have to check my 64 3 ply for that stamp. My heart jumped when I saw the 6.5x14 red onyx powertone! Lol

I own 3 Powertones (1 COB and 2 wood, Dayton and Cleveland). I also have one wood and one COB Dynasonic as well as a Super Ten. My go to drum for most things though is my Cleveland era Powertone. I just love the sound and feel of this drum.

Greatest snare drum ever made in my opinion... Covington built Powertone

Wow love the powertones. Curious to what thickness the wood models were. 3/16 maybe ?

Inde Drum Company has a shell bed (they have a patent on it) that very much seems to be a take on the Powertone snare bed as described here. I do not own any Inde drums but from the video they have produced promoting it, seems like it is very similar. Rogers was probably the most innovative drum company ever.

I just stumbled across a 15" with a serial number of 1790, anyone know what year that might be?

Interesting... great video! I have a Powertone Cleveland-era with a serial number of "2005". Does this indicate it was made in 1965? It has the clock face throw off and beavertail lugs. White marine pearl. Excellent condition aside from the wrap being a bit faded. Some of my Rogers friends told me that this is the earliest serial number on a Powertone that they have ever seen. Does anyone here have any info on this?

That is a quite early Powertone number.
      Do you have a photo?
      Does it have B&B lugs.
That number would put it in 63/64

@@Rogersdrumvideos Thank you for the response. Yes I have some pics but no way to post pics on TH-cam. It has beavertail lugs, double-cut 45 degree reinforcement rings and 'chalk-like' matte grey paint inside of shell that you talked about. The inside label has an "H" written in pencil upper lefthand corner. Serial no. #2005 as I mentioned.

@@sierragold the H is the mark of the assembler John Harmon.
John was not an assembler for very long before he moved to the pearling room.
I suspect this is a very early beavertail drum.
      63/64
