My dad threw a Mk2 Escort off the side of a mountain in New Zealand 40 years ago. The one thing he was adamant on was a fully seam welded chassis and the best quality roll cage there was, thicker by a lot than the requirement for the races and he was pretty happy to crawl out of a car that was 4 inches narrower and survived rolling down a mountain and through the tops of the trees to the ground, and he had no broken bones apart from the co-driver who I think had a broken wrist. A good cage will save your life for sure, never skimp out

Guy that i knew when i first got my licence used to rally wrx's (was a v2 i believe). Some how between him and his co driver, somoene fucked up and they missed a hairpin and went straight..... of a cliff. good cage and seat saved them.

@lockjawjak, my dad was rallying mid 70's in NZ for Toyota (Toyota Levin), and was first on the scene of accidents more than he would have liked. And some of those scenes were not pretty even with a roll cage. Props to those who build them well.

11 rolls means official wolrd record for a car rolled on camera. Before it was the Aston Martin DBS 7 times roll from Casino Royale, that held that record.

This guy is such a straight shooter and no bullshit. I wasn't going to watch this video but I'm bloody glad I did!
He speaks about people giving him things and just dropping there things to help him, That's the power of a community who who a damn about each other because I bet if it happened to them, Mick would do the same thing at the drop of a hat. Wild fucking crash that was, But he stayed positive throughout ( at least what we saw ) and that's the most important part of recovering from such a massive accident. @kaw628 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

@@s70driver2005 It's ridiculous how many people think safety equipment isn't worth the high end prices. In 2011 I was preparing for the motocross season, had an engine lock up off the face of a 70 foot triple and send me over the bars. I landed face first into the uphill of the landing hard enough to crush my T12-L1 vertebrae (and literally shorten me by an inch) but didn't even get a concussion thanks to my Shoei VFX-W. I wish it was on video, it was the scorpion to end all scorpions, my butt cheeks hit my shoulder blades and I saw my heels hit the ground above my head. Shoei, Troy Lee, and Arai are where it's at, I've seen them all save lives without a doubt, including mine more than once.

Your a great man for this sport, your messages of safety, roll cages and taking it to the track have surely made some of the young blokes who know it all(same as most of us older blokes once upon a time), a wake up call with ‘impact’. The fact that everyone out there was so concerned for your person and then generous in the rebuild shows how much of a great guy you must be. You really are worthy of that title and caring for others, spreading the message, your a champion. All the best to you and your loved ones, thanks for doing the vid.

Happy to see Mick survived with no major or permanent injuries from the crash, unfortunate for the car as R33 GTR's are getting more expensive & rare as time goes on as does any JDM icon. Also good to see that the boys salvaged every part they could off it as well so it won't go to complete waste plus there is memories attached to the parts as well. Not sure if Mick or any of his mates ever see or notice anything to do with the number "11" or the time "11:11" as I have in many circumstances for a lot of years now - caught my attention to the fact the car had rolled 11 times & later mentioned that the ambulance took 11 minutes to arrive.

@16:15 - the REAL problem is the difficulty keeping full street rego with a weld in 6 point cage (which is a bare minimum for a cage imo)... Our rego authorities need to ease up on this because there are forcing us to choose between being safe at the track or being able to cruise our cars on the street... Andrew, the whole community needs help around this issue. We need leadership on this matter and lobby for change

If you crash on the street with a cage without a helmet, you’re going to crack your skull I guarantee. The laws aren’t there for no reason mate.

Don't use racecars on the street then. If your car is bulletproof without crumple zones you will terminate the guy driving the corolla

Great video, guy is a driver and builds amazing cars. Humble and thankful for all the people who are there for him when he needed. It's great to have good people around who are there for u and I'm sure u there for them. Wish I had good people around me but only ever had people who I give everything but don't get the same back.

When the car is getting out of control; do you ever think about lifting off the throttle in an attempt to save the car? You can tell 2-3 seconds before it went sideways the car was already losing control. You arent even racing anyone in this video. So why not save the car and potentially your life?

He literally said that’s one his problem he won’t lift he’s legs off no matter what and he wouldn’t have gotten the numbers he’s been getting if he was lifting his legs off if everytime the car was going side ways a little

WOW!! What a wild ride Mick. Glad you're still with us after that. Good to hear you're itching to get back on the bike.
Would've been interesting to see some pics the wreck you walked away from. But I gather there's reasons you didn't post any in the video.
Here's hoping you've still got the bug to go faster than ever, and the accident hasn't dampened that bug.
