  • A Snapshot of Manx Waters
All the footage seen here was taken on the same day - Wednesday Aug 16th, one of the calmest days we’ve had in a long time.
It just goes to show that just because we mightn’t see many cetaceans on a windy day, it doesn’t mean they’re not there hidden beneath the waves!
On one day alone, we had sightings of all the 5 common manx cetacean species reported to us (Harbour Porpoise, Short-Beaked Common Dolphins, Bottlenose Dolphins, Risso’s Dolphins and Minke Whales).
Alongside these reports was an unprecedented sighting of a pod of Risso’s Dolphins and a pod of Short-Beaked Common Dolphins associating together. Two weeks ago, we observed a Risso's Dolphin swimming alongside a pod of commons. This interaction was the first of its kind seen in Manx waters. This latest sighting of the two pods associating with each other marks another first for our waters! We will be posting a follow up detailed summary of these interactions very soon.
Thank you to everyone that reported your sightings and those that shared your wonderful footage with us! 🐬🐋🦈🇮🇲
