    The Lions Head is an amazing area with awesome views! It's nice to see everyone using hammocks. Little as a year or two ago we only saw a handful of backpackers using hammocks. How times are changing and I'm sure the TH-cam videos are helping. We have a perfect view of the stars and Northern Lights from our backyard. You never get tired of looking at them. Very Good Trip!

      Northern lights are definitely on the bucket list.

      hey bud! i'd say youtube is definitely turning more people on to the hammocks.. Im not into it but Roxana wants to try it and even got herself a cheapo hammock after seeing them in vids... now we jsut needto camp in a spot with trees one day.. hahah.. hammock camping is not as easy to set up in the desert

      I know what you mean by going out west. That's why we brought our tent and left our hammocks at home last summer. Getting into hammock camping can be expensive, but we love it. It's way more comfortable! No problems finding trees in our area. lol

    I grew up spending my summers there with my grandma and grandpa in their cabin at the base of the mountain near the Ranger station. My brother and I try and go here once a year now to hike and camp. Such a beautiful place with diverse hiking experiences for sure

    What a trip. I'm surprised the trees there were bare. The trees here in Western NY still have some leaves, but we are way past peak. Loved that everyone is using hammocks. Looking forward to seeing if Gary sticks with it. Thanks for bringing us along on the trip.

    I went down for a day trip yesterday and took the same route that you guys took to the Lions Head. Even got lost off TR513 at the same point that you did, LOL. The climb up to the Lions Head and back down was pretty miserable but the view at the top was worth it!

    • @FrozensAdventures
      @FrozensAdventures  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I was there last weekend and had lunch on Lion's Head. I didn't know this but apparently there are several ways up there. Some are very difficult the way we took wasn't too bad. But some of the others were rock scrambling on the way.

    • @PFBM86
      @PFBM86 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, I spoke to a couple of people on the way there and they mentioned that there were a number of cairns on different parts of the trail leading up, so I basically just picked one and started climbing. Guess I wasn't as lucky as you cuz I had to scamble all the way to the top..

    Good to see you back at the Sods. Out of all the places I backpacked this year, I believe this place was my favorite. Was there in mid July when the blueberries were everywhere.. the only part I didn't care for was dealing with Dobbin Grade.. thanks for sharing - looks like you guys has a blast!

      stowe18 I was also at the sods in 1st part of August a lot of the open areas were all blueberries that look like scrub bushes when not in season. Just loved all the variety in terrain. Probably going back again this year.

    AWesome!! Lion's Head is a killer view and i am loving hte sharp image quality throughout this video. Definitely appears improved video over a year ago. Love the deep woods campsite at around 29:30... and yeah you'll need a long exposure DSLR shot to show us the night sky for real... glad you got to see it //we're spoiled out west, see it often/// Nice to see your buddy Gary again and always seems like your groups have a great time. Will say ARGH on the fire, especially if you want night sky.. fire is only taking away from it but oh well... no one exploded ... haha... good advice about rodents. In high Sierras we leave tents open so that marmots can walk in rather than chew in. Trail around 40:00 is SO nice. Really enjoyed the hiking from that point on thanks so much for making this and again love that you make them long and give us a full experience. ps congrats and welld done to Matt for his first trip

      The shock cord lines that went through the entire length of the tarp which would clip onto the hammock susupension were run through the load lifters on one side so it was just drooping. We re-ran the lines through the length of the under quilt and and ran the load lifter shock cord through the load lifter quick clips. Sorry I meant to show this but forgot all about it the next day.

      Outdoor Adventures so I was looking at my hammock gear underquilt and tried to visualize what was wrong and still don't understand. Sorry to ask but could you do a video showing what was wrong and how you fixed it? It's a lot I know but I'm struggling with mine and it would be real helpful....understand if it's too much. Keep the adventures coming!

    Great trip! I was noticed when you were showing Gary how to sleep in the hammock it looks like it could work for sleeping on your side.....if so do you need one with a footbox? I would love to get a hammock setup but am such an true side sleeper I didn't think it would work....thanks for the great video always like when one of your is in.

    • @MikeM-zp2pv
      @MikeM-zp2pv 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      It may vary from hammock to hammock, but I sleep on my side in mine all the time.

    • @FrozensAdventures
      @FrozensAdventures  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I sleep on my side all the time. Footbox not required. You just have to make sure you are laying diagonal in the hammock and not curved like banana. In my bed I have to sleep on my side to fall asleep but in the hammock I find sleeping on my back is very comfortable but I alternate from back and side sleeping as well.

    Glad you finally made it up to Lionshead. It sucks about Alex's pack. I hope Osprey will fix it for him. The damage isn't due to a manufacture's defect so they might not d it free of charge. But, maybe they will. Who knows.

    • @FrozensAdventures
      @FrozensAdventures  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Their repair costs are pretty cheap I've had to go through them to fix a hole in my mesh on my Atmos. Great customer service. Normal wear and tear is not covered but Osprey makes it easy with their customer service to get it fixed and back to the consumer fast.

    Can you help me orient as to where you parked to access the beginning of this trip? We just spent some time in the Valley and did a small 4.5 mile loop day hike from the access of Timberline Resort. Did you access this from Freeland Road and then the connector trail from the CVWR??

    • @FrozensAdventures
      @FrozensAdventures  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not sure the road as it was just some dirt road for day hikers. I usually put the GPS data in the description of the video though with all the trails and usually each days mileage.

    • @alexiskirk8779
      @alexiskirk8779 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      We parked close to a day use area. There's no parking I that area but toy can pull off the side of the road before you get there.

    The romen bomb sounds. Awesome I'm definitely doing that for my next trip. I was wondering how you make it? Do you pour boiling water in that plastic bag you were eating it out of?

    • @FrozensAdventures
      @FrozensAdventures  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      1 package of ramen + flavor packet + 1/2 a bag of instant potatoes, and about 2 cups of water. Yes you can pour boiling water right in a ziploc freezer bag. That way there is no cleanup.

    Awesome Trip And Great Video! Myself and 2 other friends are heading here in mid October for a 3day/2 night trip. Trying to decide on an exact route, may trace your footsteps - looks like you hit a lot of the highlights. I'm not much of a compass user but research the hell out of trips, am decent with topo maps and use pre downloaded Google maps for offline navigating. I've heard the trails can be tough to follow at times here, did u run into many issues? What tools do you use for navigation? Saw the gps on your one buddy's pack but they're a little out of my budget right now. Recently converted to hammock backpacking myself and love it so far. Thanks for the upload, keep em coming!

    • @FrozensAdventures
      @FrozensAdventures  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Brad Stoner just search for dolly sods map on Google. That should be all you need. Pay attention to the trail names and you'll be able to do it fine. I use an app called view ranger. You can import GPS data if you can find it online.
