It's really nice so far, the material doesn't stick to your skin like I thought it would. I am using it for summer temperatures but I really wanted it to go down to 51 or so to find the lower limit of the quilt.
I was excited to hear in your gear video you went hiking at Zaleski and couldn't wait for the video! I've done 3 hikes there, definitely one of my favorite spots in Ohio.
we tried to camp in the same spot where the water spicket was. there were about 200 boy scouts there. we had to stealth camp about 300yds away. great video, keep them coming.
You should consider revisiting during early fall, the Zaleski and lake hope area are stunning, and that's often when all the mushrooms start popping up. The spotted ones will make your trip a...well, a real "trip".
wow that swampy area was fantastic!! i dunno why you are doing way more camera forward shots but i LOVE it this is a really nice video. great image quality. pillow idea is interesting. i finally saw one of the inflatables you recommended havent spent the $$ yet, this one is interesting too now.. spent so many nights in the tent this year we decided we really need a couple good pillows already, ill have to look into this dry bag as well now
Just did Archers Fork, between Wheeling and Marietta. Pretty nice hike. I noticed you have done Zaleski and Lake Vesuvius. You should check it out since its closer to you. I will be posting the video to it soon.
Frozen, nice video. My buddy and backpacked there a couple of years ago and we did the same route that you guys did. If you ever get back that way you should go explore the Moonville Tunnel. It is not far from Zaleski and there are some interesting stories / urban legends regarding the tunnel (supposedly it is haunted). Just search for Moonville Tunnel in Vinton County. Thanks for sharing.
Hey! I greatly appreciate your videos. Lots of good knowledge for beginners. During this video, you talked about the previous inhabitants not completely extinguishing the fire. For us super green hikers, could you comment on the best ways to put your fire out without using one's drinking water?
+Catherine Smith unfortunately you will have to use drinking water. Or in this case there was a water pump that the previously people could have used. When backpacking if I'm not near a stream I don't have very big or long burning fires. So it's very easy to wait until the fire goes completely out before settling down for the night.
I bought the BRS Titanium stove. It worked 2 times then the valve quit working. I never over tightened it or opened it up too far. I have no idea why it broke so soon after purchase. The Ebay seller tried to give me half my money back and for me to change my review to a positive one. I refused half a refund and requested a full one instead, and got it. Still, I am in need of a good cheap lightweight stove.
I paid $14.05 and free shipping for the one I got. But I am sure you can find it cheaper. The only issue is the valve is incompetent. Time to spend more on a better one.
I took my 6 year old grandson on his first overnight backpacking trip there just about a month ago. He loved everything about it except for sleeping on the ground in a tent. Now don't get me wrong, he likes camping in a tent but, he knows that when I go hiking by myself I take a hammock. His dad has a hammock and I just made his uncle a hammock and tarp for a up coming trip Red River Gorge we have planed for the middle of October. Now every chance he gets he ask me when we are going hiking again and when he can get a hammock. So what will he get for Christmas ? You got it , a hammock. I just finish a hammock for him in his size and still need to make his tarp. I also picked up 2 of the Costco quilts. 1 for a top quilt for him and the other one I will convert to a bottom quilt. Just hope I get it all done before Christmas. I have his pack weight at 8 lbs.
+Steve Pike sure am. I highly recommend it. Won't cost you much weight and you will be able to set up a lot faster and make adjustments much quicker. Check out Dutchwaregear.com
Hi Jason. I live in southern Ohio (all my life) and somehow managed to remain ignorant of Zaleski State Forest until your video! haha. I'll have to check it out! Quick question: Can you post a link for the Costco quilt you showed in this video? I've been looking for it on Costco.com and can't seem to find it....maybe they don't sell it online? Just curious.
@@FrozensAdventures very cool. Thanks for always responding! Bucket list item is to hike a portion of the Shenandoah with you on your thru hike. Would be so cool! Maybe some trail magic haha. The AT comes practically through my backyard here in northern Virginia. Big fan!
I'd love to meet subscribers along the way. I will say I will be hiking pretty fast (that's just my style of backpacking. But ALWAYS down to meet people out there, maybe plan out a camp somewhere and not necessarily hike all day together. I do also prefer solo hiking but that dynamic may change, ya never know. I just filmed the "frozen" story for next week or the following. But either way it's filmed haha. I actually was able to film 3 videos today. Anyway thanks for watching and being a positive influence on me and the channel/community.
@@FrozensAdventures anytime frozen! Keep up the great work and best of luck finishing the planning of the thru hike. P.s. I'll be doing dolly sods this weekend all thanks to your inspiration!
Some areas like the Great Smoky Mountains require you hang the whole pack. But the point of hanging your food is to get it up off the ground away from rodents and other threats like bears. Now if you have no smelly stuff in your pack, you shouldn't need to hang it. But on this trip we saw mice and they are curious creatures so I opted to hang my pack from my hammock suspension. If you want to hang your whole backpack with food and all then you should but, you are going to need to find a branch that obviously will support the weight.
Quick question. How do you find trails and backpacking trips? i live in california but i cant really find any backpacking trips though google. is there a website that you use?
I usually use reddit.com a lot they have a great hiking community. You can ask about trails in your area and usually people will be quick to recommend the appropriate trail based on your experience level.
thats funny, just had my first cougar encounter at mohican in august. i know ive seen bear sign at tar hollow.. friends had them on his property near there. but i feel theres sparse competition for natural food for bears here that theyre not so opportunistic as places with higher densities.
I will def. check it out. I did some parts of Wayne, obviously have been to Zaleski twice and I did The Archers Fork Trail by Marietta, Ohio. If you get a minute I dont know if your a hanger or not yet but I have a facebook page its "Ohio Hammock Hangers" check it out lots of great people and great stories as well as tips and help for everyone.
Loving these videos - keep it up. In my neck of the woods, Winter makes up 7-8 months of the year, so I'm looking forward to more winter hikes.
Those orange mushrooms at 15:54 are called chicken of the woods and are edible.
been waiting to hear from someone who actually used the Costco down quilt. I just bought one. Glad it worked out for you.

Ohio has all kinds of trails to hike from beginner to expert and everything in between...Born and raised here...

I was there with my two sons about 3 months ago. Great trip. Thanks for the video!
Looks like a nice place. Not much time left this fall before the leaves drop. I hope to go out this Friday-Saturday somewhere. Thanks for the video.
Great video. Zaleski was the first place I ever backpacked. It was a nice easy place to learn and try out a new hobby.
we tried to camp in the same spot where the water spicket was. there were about 200 boy scouts there. we had to stealth camp about 300yds away. great video, keep them coming.
Always enjoy your videos and gear reviews.... Another good one here!
Thanks for the vid. We are heading to Zaleski tomorow, after backpacking at Tracy Ridge earlier this week.
Nice trails as usual. Thanks for sharing!

I was there that Thursday Friday and left Saturday. My Jimmy is down at the end of the lot. The red and grey one.

Cool place for a hike!
At 14:02 that cluster of mushrooms are "Stumpies, Poepinkies, in a book they are referred to "Honey" mushrooms. They are edible not choice but good.
Thanks for the video.

Awesome video. Where can I get a good detailed map of the trails at Zaleski?
Pretty sure they have them at the trailhead
Frozen! Are you using a continuous ridge line? I was thinking about setting my superfly up with it and would like to hear your thoughts?

It's in store only. The sell it on amazon but I believe it's $50. Double Black Diamond quilt
Roughly how many miles were you guys able to trek a day? Planning on doing this loop on Fri - Sunday?
And where did you get the map?
Very Good Video! Shug....lol
Was that algae bloom?
Great video. A word of caution. There is bear activity in the area as of 9/2018. Be safe!
Hey. Did Andrew answer your mushroom question?
Would you ever consider going on hikes or campouts with fans?
We did a meetup last year with the channel but I kept it only to facebook fans. Probably going to do it again this fall or summer.
I've always wondered, how is it exactly you got the trail name frozen??
This has come up a lot. I'll actually make a video. It's just an old high school nickname not even a trail name.

Quick question. I see many people hang a food bag instead of their whole backpack. Does it matter if you hang your whole backpack with the food in it?

is that paper map available at the trailhead?
I believe so
@@FrozensAdventures thanks for the reply, good luck out there.
Is camping/backpacking in zaleski free? Do you need a permit or anything? I’m having a hard time finding any information online
It's free, but you have to go to the trailhead and reserve a site beforehand. Maps are at the trailheads or google them.
