  • What would a doctor discover if they lived with you twenty four hours a day? This series will see Dr Rangan Chatterjee leave the comfort of his GP surgery to spend time with families across Britain.
    Nicola has been diagnosed with ten different conditions, including fibromyalgia, ME, sciatica and depression. Her pain and exhaustion has led her to become addicted to painkillers and almost housebound. Can Dr Chatterjee help Nicola find the cause of her problems and improve her health so that she can enjoy life again with her three young sons?
    Laverne is suffering from stress and severe exhaustion, and at risk of developing life threatening type 2 diabetes. As a single mother she works two jobs as a car saleswoman and a nightclub bouncer, whilst juggling the demands of her two young sons. Rangan must find a way to completely overhaul her lifestyle, including her diet, sleeping habits and work-life balance.

    Well the truth is it can. I have been there.
    I Had different kind of pain, numbness and so one, all over my body. Had lots and lots of different tests, but in The end the stress and my mental health was the reason.

    What a beautiful soul this doctor is. Someone who actually cares. Our health care in Germany has the same problems like in Britain. Doctors have about 10 minutes with their patients, no time to talk about details and properly assess a possible root cause. They prescribe pills to manage symptoms and that's it. If you want the kind of help this doctor is offering, you need to see a naturopath and pay out of your own pocket. I think that's sad. These people clearly show how much it matters that someone actually cares about what you do and how it affects you. They are motivated by the personal care. I think medicine needs to go back to some basic principles of health instead of prescribing more and more meds that don't heal you.

Everything was rote memorization and external, diagnostic-based, nothing about this internal thought process, which turns out to be so important, and is the reason people like me sought to be doctors to begin with: to help others. Tbh i feel most times, the diagnosis of fibromyalgia is just a blanket diagnosis for undiagnosed pain. Quite often physicians can’t figure out the cause of pain, diagnose it as fibromyalgia and prescribe pain relief medication. It doesn’t deal with the issue but most western medicine doesn’t really anyways. There is a senior in med sch who cracked a joke before graduation saying: the doctors’ job is to distract the patient enough while their body heals itself. Although thats just a joke and to some extent true, but I feel that is the differentiation btw a normal GP and a good doctor.

      I have fibromyalgia and I found diet change, gentle exercise, mindfulness (particularly meditation focused on being mindful of pain) and working hard to ensure I was living in alignment with my values and living more authentically went a Long way to making my fibromyalgia symptoms almost disappear. Also, and this is really important, respecting my mind’s and my body’s need to rest.
      Now, when I have a flare-up of symptoms I can usually just rest a bit and it gets better. If I find myself having flare ups very often, I re-evaluate my life to work out where I am not living authentically and see if I can make changes (not always possible immediately given financial situations).
      I only say this because I think it isn’t just one thing that helped, but rather all the things. And I guarantee that the feeling of agency and control over her own life that seeing the impact of making these changes had on her also contributed.

    I've been having so much stomach troubles after quitting Olanzapine after taking it for 3 years. The doctors don't say it's becase of that. But it's weird how it all started right when I stopped it. Now I'm finally feeling pretty good in my stomach, after having around two weeks where I had to go to the bathroom 10-20 times a day. I was so exhausted. But on wednesday in 4 days I have to get a Colonoscopy. And I need to get intense diahhrea to clean out my large intestine beforehand. The procedure itself I'm not stoo scared about, but the cleaning of my large intestines. My gutflora have already been having it real hard with all my digestive issues. And making it go through that does not seem like a good idea. My doctor say I should get it done. But I'm pretty good now. Only go to bathroom once a day now! And I'd really like to not mess with my microbiome or gut flora again after all it's been through lately. And the only things they can detect with that treatment is polyps, cancer crohns and a few other type of things like crohns. I'm really thinking about cancelling my appointment, but I know my doctor would be pissed. Anyone have suggestions on what I should do?

    She is overweight for a diabetic. Diabetics have a healthier weight when they switch to a proper diet. They melt because they don't eat a lot of glucose and fat.

    • @CaptainTodger69
      @CaptainTodger69 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Type 2 diabetics eat too much glucose. This leads to an increase in insulin, which leads to insulin resistance, which results in high levels of glucose in the body. Type one diabetes is the opposite. They don't create any insulin. They really shouldn't both be called diabetes. They're literally completely opposite conditions

      @@tanjahorvatserbiaoldslavsh4685 stress management and good sleep are definitely two of the key factors in reducing insulin, and managing insulin resistance (which is the cause of diabetes 2), but you still can't have it without the poor diet. Which is essentially processed food, carbs, and sugar

    My grandmother is 89 years old. She got diabetes from stress almost 40 years ago. The diet must be mild and unsalted. Without glucose. Fructose can but not too much. Glucose is easiest to lower by physical activity ( for example - by chopping wood ).
    ps. My grandmother has a big wood stove. She cooks on that stove. In the winter, that stove heats her apartment. She also lives in the village.
