      Also I raced 15yrs ago nitro stadium trucks but is there another good buggy RTR nitro 1 8th scale that'd cheaper and can compare to this?? I can spend about 800 or 900 bucks freely on a car and setup

      Vape Clouds901 I would like to see them do another nitro build where they spend the most money on the buggy it’s self more of what you want instead of what you need then compare them both to see if it’s worth it

    I think this series is very helpful for individuals who are thinking about going nitro and don't know where to begin. Sure for those who race competively its easy to say just buy a kit and buy the better components, however lets not forget that people have budgets so an rtr would make more financial sense for them since it comes with enough to get started and also they might not race it competitively either in the beginning. Others have said get a preowned kit but there again comes the expense of getting the items to run it if someone isn't selling it artr. I also believe that RTR's are meant to help new people come into this wonderful hobby of ours and learn how to improve their platforms and skills to where they will feel comfortable building a kit from scratch and be truly competitive remember you gotta learn to crawl before you can walk/ run.

      I know this is old, but i've just recently caught that fire to get into it as a new track opened up near me for off road. I've been trying to do research on which RTR platform would be the best and this is exactly my mindset. I wanted to get a good base chassis and as i get more into it, be able to upgrade it.

    • @MightAsWellBeMe

      Back then a lot of race ready cars were sold as rtr’s but since the sport of racing is now only being carried on by rich guys who will spend buttloads of money for big name products, companies sell everything separately because they know people are sucker enough to pay for it. I have dominated high end 4wd nitro race truggies on my RTR 2wd nitro slash with minor upgrades (shocks, a-arms, tires. Pretty much it). You might be able to buy your way to 1st place but skill is gonna pay off more and be more impressive. Don’t let consumerism fool ya ;)

    • @FarmerFpv
      @FarmerFpv ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MightAsWellBeMe What? Race-ready RTRs? From what I remember all high-end race cars came as kits. RTRs are a very new thing in this hobby. Consumerism? No as technology advances and with all the R&D put into these things the prices are very fair. You obviously haven't been in the hobby long enough to know that it was 3 times as much money years ago to get into this hobby. Yall are spoiled these days. Dominated high-end truggies with a modified 2wd nitro slash? Now I know you blowing smoke up this kid's butt. Ain't no way you dominated with a 2wd in a 4wd race. You're smoking some seriously bad sh*t. Stop selling lies you quack. Your whole comment reeks of jealousy of those who can afford to buy the good stuff. Yes, skill is important but it can only get you so far. especially with other skilled drivers that have better equipment. I swear there isn't an ounce of logic in your brain.

    This is an outstanding series. It shows an RTR can be competitive. I think people should realize that with the exception of tires you don't have to buy all the improvements at once. If I remember correctly this was not the newest RTR from Kyosho. Thanks for doing it. As some one mentioned I would like to see more video series like this series.

    I find it interesting that so many people are saying that buying a kit would have been comparable in price or even more affordable. Most of what was purchased would be needed for a kit anyhow (servos, wheels and tires, starter box, batteries, etc) and then add in an engine, pipe, radio equipment, and everything else needed and you would be far beyond the totals in this series. I think this was a great way of showing a financially accessible entry to the racing side of the hobby with room to grow when the budget allows. Well done!

    • @ripmax333
      @ripmax333 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I can’t even understand why a kit would be comparable to this price shown in the video. A kit alone will probably cost you at least $500 depending which brand you pick, another 300 for a competitive engine in which then you need to get a tune pipe for it , servo’s ,batteries , starter , Tx , tires, Tools, etc etc.

    Brett, I'm so glad you made a point of doing upgrades as you break parts. Regardless if someone races or bashes, I believe in this as a way of getting the most out a RTR and not just spending money for the sake of spending money. Also weird cost cutting measure by Kyosho to only have one set of bevel and spider gears in each diff.

    Cutting a 1mm or 1/16" wide piece of fuel line and sliding it over the end is a good alternative to the metal clips as it puts equall pressure all round the feed line to the carb. I use it on the pressure side as well, tank and pipe. Any weakness would show up instantly there.
    A couple of years ago i was looking for an excuse to buy a new engine (i enjoy running them in and setting them up, as much if not more than running the cars themself)
    I had half a uk gallon of nitro methane left over from mixing fuel for something else. We didnt want to waste or ruin all that nitro so we mixed 1litre of 44% methanol, 6% mobile 1 turbine oil and 50% nitro methane. The fuel was black in colour and absolutely stank ! The glow plugs did not last a full tank, they were being destroyed after a couple of minutes of running. We ended up having to use Enya no5 plugs to get any decent run times. We mixed the rest of the nitro to give us just about the full UK gallon, 4.55 litres. Thinking back, i wish we had filmed it although the engine is still in running order and i would guess maybe enough of that fuel left for 5 or 6 tanks. We gave up because we ran out of no5 plugs and they were expensive, hard to get plus you needed a monster glow supply to light the thing !!!
    Your videos are exellent with sound advice. Top notch 👍👍👍

    SAFETY NOTE Re: Included RTR transmitter: Failsafe position will be "full throttle" "if" you have to reverse the throttle in the TX (as compared to the included Kyosho servo direction). I can't find any way to reverse failsafe within the RTR TX and it doesn't automatically change via servo reversing so, if you have to reverse the throttle via TX for differing servos then failsafe= full throttle and there's nothing to be done about it (within the TX). Please tell me I'm wrong; if not then the SAFETY QUESTION is: do your recommended servos transit in the same direction as the Kyosho servos?
    If I'm wrong about the Failsafe fluke please tell me and I'll definitely delete this post: I hate being rain!

    They always avoid the question of how fast it goes. If he have added 2-3 more tooths on a new clutch bell it would have increased the top speed to 70kmt with that set up with the same pipe and manifold, but changing to a new high end engine, a real competition engine with more bhp with a lot more rpm and power. I got mine modded my Noarossi Virtus off road engine with ceramic bearings front and back i also bought the fastest pipe and manifold for this engine. 8mm venturi, 1mm medium springs and a lightweight 7075 clutch. The standard set up om my Xray XB9'13 i coulfd have gone even faster if my XB8 was builded and did the same thing with that, anyway on 13T, the car was doing wheelie and i reach a top speed that was around 52 mph, but added a new clutcbell with 15T so the speed increased from 80 kph- 90kph and it accelerated like ajaguar even with 15T is a lot more that can be done than just this... if i have added 13-18t CB it would have peaked well over 100kph, but that's not good for the engine, just for speed test. I just wonder is the chassis on this car 7075 alloy?

    Great video. The thing is though. If your gonna race and gonna stick with it, get the race kit and build it. The RTR is just to go out and have some fun. I'm all for upgrading, but you'll spend less in the long run and have a way better racer.

      @ripmax333 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If your 100% sure that you’re gonna stick with it yes, just prepare a 1000$ budget (at least) and get a kit , engine , servos, Tx etc . But if you just want to give a Try and see from there the Rtr offers a great value because let’s be honest, in RC car racing you can spend a little fortune either if it’s offroad or Onroad. The Aim here is to get many more people involved as much as possible.

    You mention in Part 1 of this series that the TKI4 "..has the various upgrades.." Do you know if the TK14 has the differential shortcomings mentioned here @4:10? Or was this indeed upgraded as well?

    • @AMain_Hobbies
      @AMain_Hobbies  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The TKI4 ReadySet diffs only have the only set of sun gears like our MP9 ReadySet. The updates are mainly the updated suspension geometry and other tweaks here and there. All the diffs and diff parts are the same as earlier models I believe. Those diffs parts aren't too expensive thankfully. You can check it out here on page 6 of this TKI4 ReadySet exploded view diagram: www.kyosho.com/jpn/support/instructionmanual/buggy/pdf/33014T1_Inferno_MP9_TKI4_rs_ex.pdf

    I wonder... In the end it would not have been a better choice to buy a racing MP9 from the start? Many of these upgrades would have been already included, and the engine and servos would have been your choice from the beginning. I imagine that the meaning of this video series is to show that a RTR can be competitive if someone decides to. But I think I would have sold the RTR and invest in a new racing buggy entirely. Anyway, I have really enjoyed the videos!! Talking about RTR, it could be nice to see the Serpent Cobra RTR that comes with the Nova Rossi engine.

      The MP9 ReadySet is a great platform to get you started in racing, and then slowly upgrade as you go, as we have done in this series. It's one of the best RTR options available for this class.

    Any thoughts on the Protek SS100 servos as an upgrade from Perfex Kyosho?

    • @AMain_Hobbies
      @AMain_Hobbies  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That would be a great upgrade, but it depends on the vehicle you install them in. The 100SS is not high voltage, so you can not use a LiPo receiver battery with them if this is a nitro vehicle. Also, the 100SS does not have adequate torque for 1/8 scale use, they're mainly for 1/10 scale applications. So they're a great servo, depending on how you use them. Hope that helps.

    @mrpeepaw 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Just saying for people out there who aren't those top racers at race events. You don't have to have crazy servos. Mark S on youtube shows some great servos that are I think 40 bucks each that are mildly fast, and have all aluminum internals and do last a good while. But if you are very serious about racing and you take it out to a track or train for races regularly you should absolutely get the 80 dollar or 150 dollar servos from protek.

    Very interesting series, So 600$ is what one have to look at to start racing for a 1/8th nitro buggy. It’s not actually that bad BUT let’s say one wishes to start with a proper KIT to have the best possible components for the chassis but then chooses the intermediate engine, servos, etc suggested in this video and start racing then maybe one can progress to a better engine servo’s etc, how much it would increase in total price?

    What will be the difference in the differentials "action" with the added gears?

    • @AMain_Hobbies
      @AMain_Hobbies  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't think you'll feel a difference, but the diff overall will last longer. The diffs take a lot of abuse and the oils used aren't that thick compared to what some bashers use, but it provides maximum performance. While racing, the more the diff works, the oil inside heats up and breaks down, putting a lot of stress on the gears. In a 30 minute, 45 or 60 minute nitro main, you can't have anything fail.

      Yes, they include some oil in the diffs; what exactly? I don't know. A good oil setup would be 5000 front, 5000 center and 3000 rear; although that may need to be adjusted depending on track conditions.
