    This is exactly where I hoped you would take this channel. You made tutorial with almost no focus on technique its all useful thought process planning and execution. Great job. I might like to see a version of this lesson where you paint to lower stranded to help beginners see what they can accomplish with just simple color and light.

    Short story of a mini painter:
    Last year I decided to change the way I paint minis for a more technical and step by step approach (a la GW but with more mixing still) to save time since I was doing quite a bunch of speedpainting for friends. Mainly blood bowl teams and D&D characters :) But without realizing it i stopped liking it. I stopped for a while and stopped watching videos.
    Then recently I saw the thumbnail for your blanchitsu video and took a look at it. Enchanted by your voice I subscribed to your channel and started to uncover this gold mine of painting knowledge with quite a different approach than others I saw, more akin to mine actually (however you are at a level way above mine).
    Armed with this new inspiration I cleaned up my workspace and got back at it the way I loved it. In fact the workflow is faster this way since I have more control over my paint so yeah! I love painting again and picked up some oil paints too to mix things up as well!
    I apologize for the long post but I wanted to let you know you are positively changing a little bit of some people’s lives. And I’m pretty sure I am not the first to tell you that!
    The next time you will hear of me will be on your patreon page. I can’t wait to be part of your community!
    Thank you Marco

    THIS is exactly the reason why I got into [resin] 3D printing and back into miniature painting - so that I can try out a lot of different things without wasting a lot of money on each figure. Sure, the setup process is expensive and akin to saying "I brew my own beer to save money" (been there, done that), but it's a hobby and fun :)

    This video is perfect for me right now. I just moved back to my home town and a friend of mine pulled out a box of my D&D miniatures from when I was a kid. For perspective here, most are dated 1975-81 ... Ral Partha. I just finished stripping all the old crappy paint off them and priming them. The details are amazing. Incredible trip down memory lane. I'm going to use this to get ideas for my schemes.

    It would be interesting to see a model that's supposed to be the same or similar but under different lighting conditions. Brilliant as always. I had always wondered how you would do more "human" kinds of faces as much of your work on the channel has been on cyborgs or figures with helmets, and slightly unnatural skin tones (to tell the story). Turns out you're awesome at normal skin colour/faces too. It's definitely an area that could be a series in and of itself.. Male and female sculpts, expressions, eyes, different natural skin colours. Not that I think you'll run out of content to make any time soon!

Also, thanks for not doing Space Marines all the time, I have some other channels I follow and every time they paint Space Marines, I don't own any 40K and sometimes it is hard to translate instructions on a futuristic miniature to a more fantasy or old world miniature like Conan or Greek mythology. So I appreciate the miniatures used in this demonstration because it is closer to what I paint everyday.

I picture it as the good one, sometimes a good guy has got to hide in the shadows, sometimes you gotta stab a baby and can't have scooby doo and the gang getting involved so you stick to the darkness.

    I *really* liked this one-starting one step further back with the story (I also like to think about a mini's fashion sense!), then passing through the colour theory to the execution is really great.
    I did one recently that tried to portray a magical accident-everything is in monochrome except for the “magical” elements which are in fluorescents (need an excuse to play with those ;) ) and inks, and a touch of OSL based on those colours. Well, I can't paint like you can, but I'm proud of the idea, at least :).

    Hello! I'm fairly new to your channel and making my way through the backlog. I love your style of painting. My question is, do you fix the models with a varnish between the white ink and laying down the other colors? I notice that white ink tends to rip off the model when I apply contrast paints or GW washes. Thanks very much and awesome work!

    • @MarcoFrisoniNJM
      @MarcoFrisoniNJM  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! No I don't use varnish. Inks take a bit longer to dry in the microscopic level and they are used in a very thin layer so sometimes they can be reactivated by moisture and/or mediums. Give it a bit more time before moving to the washes. If you still have this issue you can mix a bit of varnish in the ink to make it dry quickly!

    When you are dipping and washing the prints what are the two dip stations label 1 and 2? Amazing working, effective painting, inspiring!

    • @MarcoFrisoniNJM

      Thanks a million! They are two jars of isopropyl alcohol; the fist one is for the first general clean after the print and the second one for a finer wash to be sure that no liquid resin is still on the model

    Does marco have a vid on his resin printing process? I have a studio apt and not sure if its safe to do a resin printer here -- or a smart idea if it makes a lot of noise...

    • @MarcoFrisoniNJM
      @MarcoFrisoniNJM  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sadly I wouldn't suggest a 3D printer in a studio apartment... The smell is a limited and relative problem easily solvable keeping a window open, but the noise (internal fan and moving plate) can be extremely annoying!

    Do you think the method for painting the green coloured assassin could be applicable to for instance painting green (Salamanders) marines or would you switch some things around? :)

    This is not a question for this video, but about the Scalecolor Artist range. Been watching your video about limited pallettes. I’ve found the Artist-range here in Norway, but which three colors should I get together with black and white?

    • @MarcoFrisoniNJM

      Hi! The best Scale75 Artists paints for a classic limited palette are primary blue, primary yellow and magenta!

    One of my favorite videos! What size is the that model? It’s so difficult to tell even with your hands for scale. There’s so much detail it appears larger but I’m pretty sure it’s 32mm?

    • @MarcoFrisoniNJM
      @MarcoFrisoniNJM  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks!!! It's a 54mm (a beautiful scale that is disappearing in favour of 75mm)

    • @carnajom8831
      @carnajom8831 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MarcoFrisoniNJM ah! Indeed. Does look like a great scale. All you need to do is create a video about the virtues of 54mm scale and I’m sure the trend may change 😀
      Some of these models have so much detail that 32mm is just too small and the detail is lost. 75mm on the other hand is huge.
      I like that GW is slightly scaling up their models a bit too, 45mm scale I guess.

    • @MarcoFrisoniNJM
      @MarcoFrisoniNJM  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@carnajom8831 oh yeah, you get more space to play and add details but without the all the work of a 75mm (a couple of cm makes a huge difference!). Now that all the sculpting is digital the cost of a model for a company is the same but they can earn much more scaling the figure in a larger size!

    I love the first 2 models, especially their story. The 3rd one is too dark and lacks in colours for my taste.
    The best part of this video is the creation of the story for each character and the process of the story influencing the colour scheme. This time you chose D&D alignments, maybe next time chose Magic the Gathering's mana colours for the model's story?

    Such great videos you assemble!
    Here’s some theme mashups of interest that came to mind:
    -Clear skies morning/sunset, active thunderstorm “weather”, magic/tech or natural. Muggy high humidity could be another interesting mix in.
    -Divinity, wonder, sinister
    -Disciplined calm & controlled, madness, happy & relaxed
    -Techno, modern, vintage
    - Direction of influence between the model & its environment. Such as: presence & affect from the figure onto the environment, the environment overtaking the figure(maybe even feeling of it swallowing them), balance each affecting the other, and detachment (might fit the ghost requests or a personal shield or something in space)

    Totally unrelated, but where did you get the little metal trays to mix your oil paints in. Tried art shops and model shops and can't find any. I'm now safe watching your videos again as I've already bought all the paints 🤣
    Not sure if you've covered this, but any recommendations on something to make rubble bases? I've got glue, cork and getting some sand and gravel, but need something to mix and set it like a putty

    • @MarcoFrisoniNJM

      😁😁😁 The paint trays/wells come from companies like Tamiya, MrHobby, UStar, (now also AK Interactive has its own ak-interactive.com/product/modeling-paint-wells/ ). Usually you find them in model shops but if you didn't have luck you can look for better prices on eBay (sadly I still don't have a stable and safe link to share); my stash is a souvenir from Korea 😅. You can use thick PVA glue to mix all the textures and apply everything like a paste!

      @@MarcoFrisoniNJM thanks. I was looking for palette so wasn't coming up 🙄 everyone is out of stock 🤣 but at least I know what I'm looking for. Did see your base tutorial so will use that, but still think would be good to get some modeling paste for something a bit more textured, but that'll sort this current batch 👌
