I kind of understand what Dr J is saying- It’s a huge difference when your on a super team that was built from the ground up. You look at the warriors (before KD) ppl called that a super team but Steph Klay and draymond were all drafted there and they developed chemistry over the years as well and coming into their prime together. But Lebron goes to a team and picks who he wants to play wit like he’s playing 2k or something. He goes to Miami and hooks up wit Wade & Bosh, and then got veteran stars like Ray Allen & Rashad Lewis. He went to Cleveland and hooked up Kyrie n Kevin love and then the year after he won the chip this dude started the year off wit Drose, Isaiah Thomas, Dwade, Jeff green,Rodney hood, jr smith and in the middle of the season bron was like “Na I don’t like this line up” and literally got rid of Isaiah Thomas, Derrick rose, Dwade, etc. Bron does what he wants and picks who he wants. Is this really something worth mentioning to make a case against the guy? We penalize him for losing but don't wanna look at what he had to work with around him.
Doc’s list is his opinion and he is entitled to it but he lost me with the whole super team comment. 3 of his top five were a Super team! Wilt wasn’t simply traded to LA, he forced his way to LA to join West and Baylor by threatening to leave the NBA for the ABA because he felt Philly was too small of a market. So it was cool in the Sixties and Seventies but now it’s a problem? I’m not a fan of Super Teams either but be consistent Doc.
But the regularity though. Sure you can say, well Lebron needed help to oust the Celtic Big 3 so he came to Miami. He did that and won a chip in 2012. Then a greater threat arrive in the Spurs and he bolted to Cleveland, and another greater threat arrive in the Dubs so he bolted to LA. Lebron has been doing this for a decade now. So the whole "super team" argument is funny to me. It shouldn't really Lessen anyone, Bron, KD, MJ, Bill Ruseell, Steph, Magic, Bird, Tim Duncan, KG....ANYONE
Thank you. Not many people are willing to admit this. Ironically, by his own logic, most of those players he named shouldn't even be on that list. Because they either played on a super team or joined up to create one.

I mean DR.J has a valid point. Lebron built his legacy by orchestrating superteams in name of player empowerment. That is in no way a respectable move, at all.
What the fuck are you talking about LeBron MADE those teams super by his on court play. Every star in nba history needed another star to win it all. Or at least a competent supporting cast. Finally someone speaking the truth in the media. I have been telling people this for years. Lebron has always fought against the best teams in the league. He has never been part of a dynasty that was the defacto best team over a long stretch. The way he has played free agency to form super teams makes this fact inexcusable. If any of the other greats did this they would have won non stop every year. I mean can you imagine if Michael switched to the best team possible once every few years? Michael stayed on the same team every year, was forced to play in college for several additional years were Lebron did not have to, and he left for baseball missing two season in his prime. Despite all of this he still managed put together a far better career and more championships than Lebron. In my opinion James Harden should be looked at as our generations goat not Lebron.
Mike was already on the best team... why would he want to go anywhere else. If the Bulls stayed the same and never started drafting well and making the team better, Mike would have 0-1 chip on a garbage team. He would of had to carry them year in and year out like Lebron did with the Cavs. So either Mike wouldn't have been the 6 championship goat or he would've had to try to go somewhere else. The whole "Mike didn't have to switch teams" stuff is so dumb. Why switch teams when your org is creating the best team in the league around you
@@Dom-cu6hd False parallel. The Cavs went to The Finals in 07, 2nd round in 08, had multiple #1 league ranked 60 win teams in 09 & 10, including a trip to the ECF. They were even sweeping teams out of the playoffs. So clearly, the organization was building before Bron went to Miami.
@@Dom-cu6hd Your point regarding the Bulls being a good team is a fair one. It does not disprove the hypothesis however. Let's imagine that Jordan was drafted by any other team in the league and recognized that the Bulls are the most talented young team so he signed there in free agency. In this hypothetical my point still stands because he consistently won while with this team and dominated everyone he played against. Lebron has never dominated the league like other greats despite having stacked the odds in his favor by team hopping. When your an all time great and you put together a super team your expected to not just win but completely dominate the league. For example KD with the warriors, magic with the lakers, kobe and shaq with the lakers, michael with the bulls, russel with the celtics. Lebron has struggled against mediocre teams in the playoffs despite having a super team. Lebron has also required unusually large amounts of luck to win the championships he has won. No GOAT will ever struggle against mediocre teams when hes on a super team. No all time great needs a super team just to make the playoffs. Lebron is no were near the GOAT.
How can someone's opinion be wrong?? I don't agree or disagree with Dr. J. That is his experience. He actually laced them up. Older players act like they had no leverage once they were superstars, they were instrumental to the moves and trades. They wish they could have been in the room making all the decisions the way they assume James is. The front offices have been putting great teams together for decades, that's their job. The problem is in the 90s for some reason we decided that ring counting was the barometer for greatness, except people ignore all the ones that happened before Michael. Lets forget how many how the Bulls got Dennis, or how many times they didn't make it to the play off finals. And Lets please forget Michael's Wizards time.
Dude the bulls didn’t traded with the pistons for Dennis Rodman, where that came from .the spurs didn’t want Rodman, so they traded him for W.Purdue .Spurs general manager said”it was difficult to find a team willing to trade for Rodman”It was “a big relief “ getting rid of Rodman. Young fans thought Rodman was in his prime and was aggressively pursued by the bulls,or any team. Not true
The Only player the Lakers traded and wanted was AD the rest of them that won the championship were all unwanted players like Howard Rondo and McGee so wouldn’t really consider them a superteam especially when Lebron was 35 years old
Much respect to Julius Erving in the top 10 all time (my vote). But I think he's paying homage unintended to Lebron? First off people forget that historically Organization's were credited for putting together super teams not players. Doc joined with Moses Malone and Andrew Toney? Fast forward a little over a decade when the Portland Trail Blazers put together a Super Star All Star squad "the best team money could buy" according to Phil Jackson. They failed. Fast forward years later LBJ announces the controversial "Decision" and teams with Miami; Wade-Bosh. They win championships! The point is you can put together any team, it doesn't guarantee a Championship. The Team still has to develop chemistry, stay healthy, get lucky here/there, and play the games to win the tournament.....Not easy to do Dr. J (You know). In essence Doc alluded to the fact Lebron James may be the best General Manager ever, too!

Super teams have always existed yes, that's 💯% facts, what the difference is is that Lebron has ppl come play with him when back then the GMs did their jobs & drafted/traded for everyone. That's the difference, nobody from the old school was gonna do nothing like that. The closest thing any player came to that was AI telling the front office he needed a big man & they went & got Mutombo.

I can’t believe this guy left out Lebron James 4 time NBA Champ, all time leading scorer in playoffs in NBA history, 3rd all time leading scorer overall in NBA history, most game winning shots in NBA playoff history, 17 time all star, 4 time NBA finals MVP, not to mention all the good he’s done for his community during his playing career.... Dr J is smoking some goooood shit. Lebron is one of the best if not the best basketball player any of us will ever see.
Didn't you listen to what the Doctor (J) said? "He’s the guy who has led the charge in terms of super teams,” Erving told Haynes. “When he put together a team in Miami, he put together a team in Cleveland as well, and he put together a team in Los Angeles. So, he can pick his own team. I ain’t going to pick his team.” -- James is a jumpshiper.
You sound like you are a victim of the media hype of this generation. Your generation ain't got no "greats" simply because they don't want to be "great". LeBron doesn't want to pay the cost of BEING great! He switches teams whenever it looks like the road is gonna get rough. Look at how he did the Laker team he had his first year there. Got the coach fired, all of the young talent traded away because HE couldn't be the true leader that they needed. He has proven that he'll quit on the team during the game, which has been seen on multiple occasions. If it weren't for Kyrie, that title in Cleveland don't happen. No Kyrie, they got swept the next year. Too many superstars that AREN'T greats. A bunch of stat stuffers is what the current league has diminished to. I could go on and on, but, I won't, until or if you respond back.
Doc is entitled to his opinion, he was asked a question on his top teams and he answered.
So basically he's nostalgic to his youth, cause he's not even picking Jordan in his 1st team. Not putting Jordan in the 1st team is a travesty Lebron being in the conversation for being close to GOAT status for at least 8 years already should put him firmly in the top 3 of all time, if not higher.

Bullsht. The Celtics had HOF players coming off the bench. Miami wanst even a super team. No rebounder, no rim defender, no range shooter. and a crap bench. Just 3 faceups.
The Bulls had 3 all 75 team members and the highest 3% shooter in history and a bench of specialist. Lakers had Kobe and Shaq and times with Mitch richmond and glen rice in wait. James wasnt even playing when super teams started.
Dr. J said James was the best player 3 years ago.
No range shooter on the heat??? 😂😂. That’s laughable. They had ray allen. Mike Miller and Shane battier and James Jones.
@@battletruth4836 when they got together no. Then Allen came and was what? 36 or so. Thats why he was left at the alter begging teams to oick him up.
So, no, they didnt have a player in their big 3 that could hit a 3. Thats why Chicago broke up real quick when Wade, Rondo and Butler tried to put a team together.
Mike miller? Youre talking backuo role players that were all in their 30s. Wade had bad knees by then and wasnt "slash" anymore he was on the sidelines with icepacks the size of troy aikmans head and bosh had heart problems soon after.
Battier? For real? He was considered a bust if it werent for his D. Thats like saying the Cavs were a range team because 37 yr old Jefferson and 38 yr old Frye pull up sometimes. Get on with that. The joke is youre actually serious. Remember were talking about super teams not guys willing to pull up at almost 40.

Good thing nobody asked you
I think it's rooted in teams making money through competition versus players getting paid through contracts that provide no incentive for competition. The game today is nowhere near as compelling as it was in the Doctor's day.
YOu are exactly right.the teams will ship an all time great player off as soon as the player can't give them the same on court energy, like shaq, and irving, isaiah thomas was big for boston as soon as he got hurt. shipped him, same with irving. Lebron has always been on his game that was the reason he was never shipped. he gained wisdom and wanted to do more in his career. than just play for a team that would not listen. Lebron was smart and Doc need to understand,he chose to do what the old g 's much respect to him,.. but he got it wrong. the teams started the superteams.. they shipped players off then and doing it today. sorry if the players know better today than yesterday. lebron was not giving cleveland another 7 years and he was not going to give miami more years after dwade act like he couldn't come to practice and was being shady with his 3 dig.now lebron got 4. dewade so shady, even now. 1, dr,j is wrong with the beginning started with lebron. no it started with the teams. Lebron just flipped the script/table on their behind. and the NBA was Shocked, and it WOKE up the Players. ANd always take that first 1 to bring others out their shell and fear.. That is what Lebron did. broke that fear off the players and from that OLD mindset of the players, like dr. j. but the teams were trading players around them constantly too. If he had gotten hurt and could perform they may have let him stay on the team..on the bench. like Haslem on Miami. really

Wow some ring chaser LeBron is for winning the most rings with 3 teams and every team. No one else can claim that spot.
So as long as the player don’t pick where they want to go it’s okay.
I mean DR.J has a valid point. Lebron built his legacy by orchestrating superteams in name of player empowerment. If you're the best player in the league why you need to assemble handpicked teams and overpower your way to the finals? And as soon as going gets rough he leaves without a trace or heads up. That is in no way a respectable move, at all.
LeBron’s first 7 seasons with the cavaliers had only one all star, Mo Williams.
No one should blame LeBron for the Cavaliers not giving him much help.
What the fuck are you talking about LeBron MADE those teams super by his on court play. Every star in nba history needed another star to win it all. Or at least a competent supporting cast. The way people hold things against LeBron because he has the power to help construct a roster is sad. And its not like he gets every super star he wants. Steph, kobe, lebron,KD,shaq a sweep both 5s
Kobe & Durant come before Harden & LeBum. Just my opinion...
@@Dom-cu6hd Jordan wasn't on the best team. He build the team from the ground up.
The old lakers were drafted and the team traded.. to make a good team the player "lebron" build a short term team around his not the team
How can someone's opinion be wrong??
I don't agree or disagree with Dr. J. That is his experience. He actually laced them up. I grew up watching the 80s and 90s and watched how the league has catered to offense and European players. So it would be hard to compare players with all the rule changes. We do not know if Lebron would survive a series if he had to play against the Pistons or Knicks. We don't know how good Mark Price and the artist formerly known as Chris Jackson would be playing in today's rules. Isiah Thomas in today's game?? Billy Owens in today's game?? So many players that were limited because of the rules. Penny Hardaway longevity would have been possible playing in today's game. Before there was Kobe there was Penny. It is all debatable. Arguing is futile.
These old heads bruh (smh). Mad respect but they just can’t accept that these newer generations are far better.

Much respect to Julius Erving in the top 10 all time (my vote). But I think he's paying homage unintended to Lebron? First off people forget that historically Organization's were credited for putting together super teams not players. Doc joined with Moses Malone and Andrew Toney? Fast forward years later LBJ announces the controversial "Decision" and teams with Miami; Wade-Bosh. They win championships! The Team still has to develop chemistry, stay healthy, get lucky here/there, and play the games to win the tournament.....Not easy to do Dr. J (You know).

@@telmolicious you gonnna compare cheeks and Jones to Kareem and Wilkes? Gtfoh
boys * you * them *
@@casualfandestroyer2503 what
The FUCK are u talking bout? 😂
I’m not disputing his greatness or the achievement of beating the Lakers. I’m directly commenting on his criticism of Bron 🤦♂️
God bless Dr J!!
Bs, that 2020 lakers team as not a superteam. 2 dominant Allstars is not a superteam. the kd warriors was a superteam.
Lebron James is 37 steals from overtaking Dr. J in Steals atm
So if management put a super team together that’s makes it fair and okay??? Lol makes no sense, I think most people are salty about the power lebron has and how he changed the game... a super team is a super no matters who assembled it... As if the other greats were upset that they were apart of a super team, nope they were happy because they knew they had a better chance of winning
Agreed. I got respect for these old heads but they just be hatin so tough on the newer generations. Ask anybody else what their first team is that includes Lebron, I’m pretty sure that team is destroying Dr. J’s first team (e.g: AI, Kobe, Lebron, KD, Shaq or Curry, Wade, Lebron, KG, Giannis). Mix and match anyone of these players with LBJ at the helm and they’re not losing to Dr. J’s first team.
That's the purpose of management you dumbo. They build teams. There's a reason this era is called "player empowerment" they usurped the natural order of teams.
No disrespect but Mr erving had super stars on his team as well Moses Malone mo cheeks and more
Mo Cheeks Bobby Jones and Andrew Toney was nice but they was not superstars my g
@@donovanprice3321 same as when LeBron was in Cleveland. The only real superteam LeBron had was in Miami. But calling him out for something that he had and the lakers and Celtics had is very hypothetical
@@reactking7093 Bothy Kyrie and Love were number 1 options. Love was arguably top 5 big duting that time. Kyrie was rounding into form as a perennial All-star. AD was a first over-all pick. They added statistically the best rebounder in NBA history in Drummond.
Exactly. They were the supporting cast. James brought the best player from Toronto to join the best player on Miami with him. Cheeks and Bobby Jones and Toney were not superstars
FUNDAMENTALS.
That's it. That's all it is.
