MPC ONE as my main, Circuit Rhythm as the side piece. The Rhythm hits a really nice sweet spot of being super portable but still feels like a full sized instrument vs a toy.

I have a E-MU ESI 2000, Roland SP555, Zoom SampleTrak ST-224, Roland PA60 mixer and my little MPC500. We both have similar set ups. I know I don't need the Roland P-6. TBH I'm covered for instruments. A couple of pre amps, guitar amps, compressors, EQs and finish up my mic selection and my G.A.S will be gone completely.
I use the MPC1000, SP-404MK2, Arturia Minifreak, Aira S-1 and now the Aira P-6. I tried to check off the list of shit I don't have before I bought the p-6. The GRANULAR engine is what sold me lol. S-1 & P-6 are also perfect for me to take to work for these 1hr long lunch breaks lmao.
there's a super cooler device called QUN mk2 that alot of people don't know about. it has granular but that's just one of the 100 features i haven't tried yet (and it is the size of a wallet!). it can scratch too and sequence and the synths in it sound amazing and it samples and has a looper +way way more. i think perfect circuit might be the only place to get em now (~150) tho because the main PCB isn't produced anymore.
not to be that person, but with the sp-404's looping capabilities and fx, it can kinda already do granular synthesis. i've done it on the old models, because you're just looping a tiny waveform. which is not to say that a dedicated mode is a bad idea, but it's even doable on the Volca Sample.
I feel you J and you’re not wrong for saying what you said. To each their own…if you want a portable battery powered sampler. Go for it..there’s actually other options too. Yamaha, korg has also made battery powered sampler/sequencers.
I agree, however...I work changing over the advertisements during football games at a radio station late at night. Lots of downtime. I could get a laptop and load Ableton or I could change my workflow depending on my environment. I'm going to cook basic beats while at work with something like the p6, and transfer my beat to Ableton the next morning.

You know what i was thinking the same thing. Last week i gathered every piece of gear i have on the shelf which really suits my need which is: sequencer able to run while sampling external source. Contenders are: sp-505/akai mpc500/roland P-6 + Boss micro BR (+ zoom H1 v1 and mini midi keyboard) Now P6 adds sampling over USB, smartphone and boom: koala entering the game too. Sadly i can't get the 505 out of the desk (maybe with a ripcord) The dawless setup i need as a guitarist beatmaking guy

Still trying some things, like the 202 and the 303, but so far the og 404 and my po 33 are my go to samplers (along with koala) I love the way the 202 just loops perfectly when you finish samplig, love the sound of the 303 and the convinience of the 404...but man the p6 looks dope 😅 So yeah i guess i need yet another sampler

Doctor Vibe (iOS and desktop) is a 202/303 comp and vinyl sim emulation. We A/B’d it to actual 303 hardware in the discord and all of us were stumped as to which was which! Have lost and sold so much gear over the years but this is what I’m rockin with currently: SP404mkii/SP555/BeatstepPro/Keystep/CraftSynth/VolcaFM/Launchapd/Volcasample/AlesisRecital61/Ableton/Ipad/Jazz Bass/Strat The entire P-6 could have been a firemware update on the 404, but I also understand they need to keep making profits 😅

You're that Linux guy (like me). I also use Koala on Android. A Raspberry Pi is my NAS, so I can share my complete sample library on Linux and Android ("Android Samba Client" app). Feels like luxury, and it's cheap.

I use the sp303, dr 202 , reason, and cubase 1, MPC 500...i bought the p6 to use while im out, and its fire. Super user friendly if you read the manual. Its definitely a baby 303 with less sample time but updated features.

The SP-505 is cheap & a great FX box. Modern MPCs have the granulator effect that does some crazy cool stuff as well.
