    This tablet is really cool...... I would love this for Computer Science school work (and regular paper research and writing too).
    I wish it wasn't nearly $500 CAD though.

    that touch keyboard overlap on top of the app is exactly what happen in Windows 10 touch keyboard as well, i don't understand why can't they make the keyboard works like Android and iOS where the app will get push up when the touch keyboard appear instead of overlaying the keyboard on top of the app, which is ridiculous. Btw, touch keyboard on Windows 8 was fine, no such problem, app get push up automatically when you bring up the touch keyboard

    Maybe for clarity's sake, the Home Screen should be tabbed: ChromeOS, Android, Linux, whatever. Is that dev version the one that allows Android to access microSD storage? For that matter, can Linux?

    Wow - so if you've got Crostini on here - you could develop in a Linux environment, even in a offline mode, correct?

    The web version of Gmail will have a Chrome OS icon if there is an Android version.

    NICE, is there a desktop version of this Chrome? Any way to run in a windowed mode? I am planning on replacing winblows with linux as my main OS, but touch screen support is mandatory, would this be a replacement for Ubuntu?

      Chrome OS is only meant to be used on Chrome-specific OEM machines, and there's no way to get this full form of Chrome OS on another computer. There are different versions of Chromium OS, which is the platform that Chrome OS is built on, but other Chromium systems won't include Android or Linux app support. You can pick up Chromebooks that cost anywhere from $150 to almost $1000, but most don't support Linux apps yet.
      If you have an x64 processor and really want to go for touchscreen systems, and you don't want to buy a new Chromebook, most current distros that support the GNOME 3 environment (Ubuntu, Fedora, etc.) will support touch, though some will do it better than others. You can also check out some distros and environments that aim to give a more tablet-like experience, such as elementaryOS with its macOS-like Pantheon environment, though that one is pre-1.0 and its touch input can still be buggy.
      All told, there isn't a flawless alternative to Windows 10 or Chrome OS for touchscreen machines. With Linux on tablets and laptops there's always the issue of drivers not working out-of-the-box, so you may have problems for anything from touch not being recognized to no internet connection.

    isn't that thing a modified gentoo?

    • @braelinmichelus
      @braelinmichelus 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, Gentoo uses its own package manager called Portage. Linux runs inside a virtualized "sandbox" environment. It's completely isolated from Chrome OS, hence why you can't access files in Chrome OS directories in Linux programs. I believe Google opted to virtualize a Debian environment to allow greater compatibility and simplicity.

      Brenden Michelus and what about chrome os itself? People told me they modified gentoo for it.

      Yes, Chrome OS is based on a Gentoo base. I wouldn't exactly call it a Linux distribution, as Chrome OS has no native support for Gentoo programs.
      Chrome OS is a highly modified Gentoo-based Linux operating system.
