    I wish I could have gone to West Point. Free tuition, room and board, meals, exercise, and you have the enjoyment of being yelled at if you are into that kind of thing.

      Well not only in west...Here in my Country if U've cracked The entrance, Passed the Interview and are declared medically fit in the Army Test...We are given cadet Life as free meals, stays, Education not to forget Sports and Pt.., And many more ..✊🏻Along with the officer like qualities which are inculcated during these 4yrs of training..

    • @SabotKE
      @SabotKE 2 ปีที่แล้ว +24

      Honestly the “getting yelled at” stops after the first summer prior to your academic year. After the first academic year things really loosen up and the real stress just comes from having to manage time between academics, mandatory intramural sports and drill practice.
      All that said leaving with a degree and having 100% job security for the next 5 years without crippling debt was amazing. Also with that said, the 5 years was how much you owe the army/taxpayer for all the “free” stuff over the 4 years as a cadet. A pretty fair agreement though.

      @@TheBeefSlayer fun fact: army football players get a special exemption to the current policy on height and weight regulations. Unfortunately after the football season of their senior year they have to return to an acceptable bmi standard by the time they graduate so they still can’t make their linemen be the same size as a cornfed center from Ole miss haha.

    Though I never went to WP, I was there as an interested candidate back in the 80’s getting a tour. Back then elements of hazing were still in force. I was an eyewitness myself of that hazing. All that has gone away in place of placing more emphasis on academic studies which is a time consuming process. Anyways, though I wanted WP, I settled for an ROTC commission. I know some ROTC graduates who were denied entry to WP like me become Generals today and are still in the Army.

    I was a member of the Class of 1964. We had reveille at 5:45, then breakfast .We went to class from 7:30-3:00 with a lunch break. On Saturdays we attended class from 7:30 till noon. We studied 8-9 subjects from math, physics, astronomy, english, chemistry, one of 5 languages (Russian...the hardest), Spanish, Portuguese, French, or German), and PE. The only elective was language. We calculated we had the equivalent of 28 hours (vs 18 in civilian colleges to graduate in 4 years. We studied 5-8 hours daily. Upperclassmen took great pleasure in occupying your time for 1-2 hours a day. As plebes we normally got only 3-6 hours of sleep each night as our rooms had to be inspection ready daily; I actually fell asleep on my feet occasionally (well, we all did). If you fell asleep in class your prof gigged you with 8 and 8 (8 demerits and 8 hours walking the area...which you did during your off hours in the afternoon or on weekends. We had athletics from 3-5 pm and parades almost every Saturday. Sunday we had church and then were free. Upperclassmen harassed you a lot at first but let up as the year went on. Life was a lot easier if you beat Navy (esp in football). Navy's QB was Roger Staubach (he won the Heisman Trophy and starred for years with the Dallas Cowboys) who beat us 4 years straight... But recognition (being accepted into the upper class ranks) in June made it all worth it.

    • @GreenG-314

      Maybe. But West Point is a world class university accepting only the best candidates (academically and physically) in the country with the goal of turning out the best and brightest officers they can produce. Most cadets who graduate will do so having completed air assault and airborne school. After becoming 2lt's they will then have the opportunity to enroll in advanced training throughout their career which may include Ranger, and Special Forces training which is not "boyscout training" And here's great thing - there is an academy exchange program - if the Philippine Academy has qualified cadets, they might be able to come see for themselves what its like.

      @@RoadToMan Got into the West Point C/O 2026. My nomination process involved many applications and interviews. There was a preliminary application for my two Senators and my representative. They then shift all the applications that have a "shot" at getting in and send them to get interviews in front of a board consisting of military officers, enlisted members, etc. The largest board I had to go in front of consisted of 10 people. They all ask you a couple general questions and some questions specifically based on your application file. Best advice I can give for the questions is to know why you want to go to West Point and make sure it is a good reason. They'll know if you truly don't want it. I also applied to the Vice President, but almost no one gets that; about 10 out of thousands. After all of my interviews, I received three nominations to West Point and two to USNA and USAFA. If you have anymore questions just let me know, I'll be happy to share.
